The Frederick Douglass Memorial and Historical Association was established by an Act of the US Congress in 1900 "To preserve to posterity the memory of the life and character of the late Frederick Douglass..." The Board of Trustees contracted with Dr. Levine (C. Levine & Associates) for 4 hours of Board Development and Training that focused on reviewing the charge and beginning a process that would lead to long range sustainability. Dr. Levine did the necessary research--gathered the Association's historical performance data and was well prepared to lead our group to identify its weaknesses and strengths and to acknowledging that more intense training and long range planning was needed. Dr. Levine is a very competent professional; for FDMHA she went beyond the contract delivering exceptional high quality service. Dr. Levine brings that same professionalism as she volunteers to write grants; lead workshops and teach classes focused on Community/Civic relationships and /or Personal Religious/Christian Development in the Mt Moriah Baptist Church. Dr. Levine is totally focused when working on a project and committed to delivering high quality service.

Stacia did a superb job for me, crafting a letter regarding a very delicate situation. I'm a writer - a professional writer, but I knew that my emotions would negatively impact any attempt to communicate to the said party. I hired IHTMFYW. In 24 hours, I had a well-crafted, honest and insightfully-written letter that captured the key elements I wanted to highlight while maintaining a compassionate undertone. I highly recommend this service to anyone who is seeking "just the right words" for situations that need it most.

Nancy Halsey has written grants for our organization for almost 10 years. She has exceptional writing and editing skills. After Nancy wrote a particular grant, the foundation called me to say it was the best well-written grant they had received. I have never received a phone call like that before. Nancy is professional and honest; she uses research and wisdom when writing grants and talking with employees. I highly recommend her for any writing opportunities that you may have. L. Laura Boyle is an attuned consultant with expertise as a wordsmith and graphic artist. Her writing and editing support and technical skill and familiarity with IT was very helpful in tightening up my website and strengthening my online presence. We are currently working on developing presentations and workshops and I find her solution focused approach and ability to define a task and develop implementation strategies that break large projects into smaller and doable parts very helpful. Laura is a very good listener which when blended with her responsive professional service style results in the production of quality work. About

I am a creative writer in a day and age where many people have lost the ability to write concisely, with innovation and technicality, with proper grammar that doesn't seem like a abbreviation-filled text message, or a tweet where the character count is more important than the message. I pride myself on being able to express a idea, relay a message with creativity, originality and erudition. I love writing stories, but don't at all mind the monotonous stability and consistency of technical writing; a combination which in itself is unusual, but fortuitous when it comes to almost any job.

Well, there are several reasons: 1) Technically, I know various writing styles real well (AP, GPO, Chicago, APA). 2) Through my years of journalism and other writing experience, I've developed a knack for clear, accurate, succinct expression and finding just the right words for a certain thought. 3) I was trained in Biochemistry in college. Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you hire a good grant writer?

Grants are available to nonprofit organizations, for-profit businesses that qualify for government grants, and individuals who qualify for foundation or government grants. Hiring a good grant writer can help you gain funding in your chosen field. According to the American Grant Writers’ Association, grant writers can help you research potential grant opportunities; write grant proposals, create budgets, and build budget narratives; review written materials before you submit; prepare a business plan; analyze your organization for grant competitive qualities; prepare research grants; help with 501(c)(3) applications for nonprofits; and more. Investing in the right grant writer could result in a financial win for your organization. Generally no licenses or certificates are required to be a good grant writer, but you may want to find a grant writer who has been certified (not just received a certificate of completion) by a reputable organization such as the Grant Professionals Certification Institute. Qualities to look for in a good grant writer include:

      • Proven success writing winning grants, especially in your target area.
      • Strong writing skills.
      • Strong math skills and demonstrated proficiency with budgeting.
      • Careful attention to detail — brilliant grant proposals may be rejected just for formatting errors, so you want someone who follows instructions explicitly.
      • Expertise in your target area.
      • Punctuality and good communication skills.

How much does a grant writer cost?

Hiring a grant writer can give you a competitive edge when applying for financial grants for your business or nonprofit organization, or as an individual. The cost to hire a grant writer can vary depending on their academic background, areas of expertise, previous grant writing success and years of experience. According to the Grant Professionals Association, grant writers should be paid hourly or by flat fee. It is unethical for a grant writer to accept a commission or percentage compensation of grant monies received. They can, however, be awarded bonuses in line with the hiring company’s prevailing practices. Here are some examples of average grant writing fees:

      • Hourly rate for grant writers with less experience or fewer grants awarded: $25-$35 per hour.
      • Hourly rate for grant writers with some degree of success: $35-$75 per hour.
      • Hourly rate for grant writers with proven success winning large grants: $75-$150 or more per hour.
      • For a smaller grant, the writer may charge a flat fee of $200-$500 for preparation and submission.

Pricing may also vary based on the complexity of the grant application. A federal grant that requires pages of research, budgets and a business plan may take more than 30 hours to prepare. For a high-level grant writer who charges $100 per hour, this means $3,000 or more in grant writing fees.

Most grant writers will provide you with a total cost estimate before agreeing to the work. You may be required to pay a deposit up front, or the grant writer may work from a retainer. Often, seasoned grant writers pay for themselves in the long run by writing successful grants.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
