Vertex Home Inspection is excellent. Vertex was referred by a friend of mine who had a great experience with them inspecting a new home he was having built. They surpassed my expectations. I scheduled the Ultimate Inspection Package with them because I was not taking any chances when buying this new home. They were easy to get in touch with and promptly responded to all inquires prior to the inspection. Come inspection day they showed up a few minutes early ready to work. When he told me the inspection would take 3 - 4 hours, I was skeptical but it took almost every minute of four hours. Alan was great at answering questions and addressing all my concerns during and after the inspection. His report was super detail oriented and he picked up more issues than I could have imagined. Not only was the report, very detailed, it was easy to read. Post inspection, Vertex was great at answering follow up questions and got me all follow up reports for the Mold and Radon tests when promised. In a nutshell, Vertex provides top notch customer service coupled with a superb work product. They are detailed oriented and extremely thorough. They are reasonably priced and worth every penny. I strongly recommend that anyone in need of a home inspection hire Vertex.

Alan is knowledgeable and was fair in reporting important issues about the property like: Electrical system problems that are safety related and require immediate attention. 2. Roof problems. Aged surfaces. He also identified poorly installed or missing flashing at transition areas. Although the repairs may be simple I will protect my interests by following his recommendation and ask the seller for repairing up any adverse roofing system findings with an evaluation by a competent roofer. 3. Alan identified Heating/cooling system defects. Improper installations, inadequate maintenance and an aged gas heating component. 4. Plumbing issues. He took pictures of leaking pipes and valves, I will have all that checked and hopefully Repairs can be made without spending lots of cash. The list goes on but in my case I appreciate Alan taking his time to go over the functionality of the gas fire place and other mechanical components. I highly recommend Alan to ensure that you are getting what you are planning to pay for.

He contacted me very shortly after sending out the request for estimates. Alan was very responsive to my needs and he worked me into schedule to fit the time schedule I needed. He showed up on time and went over the entire process before we got started. During the inspection he answered all my questions with a real intent to educate me about the house and its true condition. He found a problem and we spent a good deal of time just talking about it and the options to fix it. His report was great, the pictures helped explain everything and it went step by step, not jumping around randomly. He was very thorough and I feel very satisfied with his work. Definitely recommend.

FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Membership in InterNACHI (International Association of Certified Home Inspectors) requires continuing education annually for a membership to remain in good standing. Our National Radon Proficiency Program listing requires 16 hours of Continuing education each year as well. This is hugely important in this business. We are constantly taking refresher courses and focus courses to provide a better service.

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I really enjoy learning everything about everything, and a home has a huge variety of interesting systems and construction techniques. I have experience remodeling homes, and enjoy carpentry as an art, so inspecting homes allows me to use those skills to help others make a proper decision when it comes to home purchase. I really wanted to offer a competent and honorable service that people can rely on.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Make sure you verify that the inspector is certified by a respectable trade organization like InterNACHI, that requires certain education, experience, and continuing education, to ensure that you find a qualified Inspector. Since licensing isn't required in Virginia, this is really your only assurance that the inspector is properly trained.
