I have used Alvin Smithson's services for over five years as a piano tuner, teacher and performer. I am always impressed with his skills, artistry and professionalism. Alvin first came to tune my 100-years old Steinway after it had been neglected for a number of years. He first examined the instrument, diagnosed what needed to be done and then proceeded with his expert tuning. Immediately after he was done and started playing, I was amazed at how good the piano sounded. Alvin explained that with a piano that hasn't been tuned or played in so many years, it will take some time to achieve its best form and sound for which it was built. A short time after, my wife started taking piano lessons from Alvin and as she started gaining proficiency in playing under his guidance, the piano itself gained a rich pleasing sound. Alvin paid close attention and adjusted notes or did a full tuning whenever needed. He also took the time to clean the strings and do minor technical adjustments. When a string needed to be replaced, Alvin recommended a technician from a highly reputable company. Overall, we owe it to his expertise to have the wonderful old piano do what it was built for by the Steinway masters. I should also mention that I heard some great musicians at venues where Alvin is the regular piano tuner. People who visit our house and hear our piano, or play it themselves, always compliment its sound. But the best comes when Alvin himself sits at the keyboard, whether at our house, at a social function or performing in the theater, it's such a joy to hear him play some great classical pieces as well as his own wonderful compositions. He is truly a very talented, sensitive and highly knowledgeable artist. And such a pleasant person, too. My wife and I feel fortunate to have Alvin give us the best piano sound to enjoy live music in our home. I would recommend him to anyone as piano tuner, teacher and overall musician.
Tona is an excellent voice teacher -- my son's range has expanded an octave in just 5 lessons and he is singing with much more confidence. The price is reasonable.
I have taken voice lessons before, however, never enjoyed the experience as I have with Momma Debbie Kirkland. Momma Debbie has a warm, fun, exciting, inviting, loving, motherly and caring spirit. She is an awesome teacher and singer. I felt major improvements in my breathing and voice dynamics. It has truly been a life changing experience that I will treasure forever and ever. This woman is The Bomb.Com!!!!!!
I started taking voice lessons for the first time at the age of 53 from Sam. My only other musical experiences were singing in a church choir as a teenager and taking piano lessons for a couple of years when I was in middle school. I chose Sam because of his willingness to accept different types of voices and his terrific and positive reviews. I have never questioned my choice. When I started with Sam, my voice was weak. I could basically carry a tune, but definitely not in a public setting and definitely not one that was outside of the middle-of-the-road range. I took lessons so I could feel more confident in my singing ability and improve my voice. Sam started by teaching me how to breath while singing. Ill admit that it was hard work and not the most exciting, but it has made a huge difference in my ability. My range has been broadened and my voice is much stronger than when I began 8 months ago. During that time we have worked on music theory, rhythm, harmony, different types of music, etc. The key for me is that I have always found Sam very patient and encouraging yet at the same time mindful of the technical expertise needed to improve ones voice. I highly recommend him for someone like me and definitely for anyone who has a more natural musical talent!
One of Maddie's most outstanding areas is vocal music. She is a brilliant singer and vocal pedagogue. Immediately following graduation from our Musical Theatre Program, she was hired as an adjunct private voice instructor. Her students have demonstrated excellent growth and she has become a solid component of our vocal faculty.
After four years of private voice lessons, my daughter and I love Jenni. We highly recommend her for her patience, experience, and bright disposition. She is a wonderful teacher and has been especially good with my sensitive introvert.
Orla is very nice and incredibly knowledgeable about singing. I hadn't taken voice lessons before, but she made me feel comfortable. Would definitely recommend.
Brendan was very professional, kind and helpful with my daughter's voice lessons.
I’ve been taking guitar lessons with Jim for about 9 years now and vocal lessons with him for 2. Since we’ve first started lessons Jim has always been a true professional: always early or on time, helpful, hard worker, etc. More importantly, however, he genuinely cares about his students far more than any teacher I’ve ever met. Over the years, Jim has not only become a great friend of my family but really a part of our family, and a short review cannot begin to describe how amazing Jim is as a guitar and vocal teacher.
Our daughter, 13, has been taking voice lessons with Keely for almost a year, and has had a terrific experience. Keely has taken the time to get to know our daughter, her strengths and weaknesses, likes and dislikes, and she makes effective use of the lesson time, finding music our daughter enjoys (musical theater), as well as challenging her with music she might not otherwise have been exposed to. Keely is very encouraging, abounding in patience, and a lot of fun to work with. Our daughter loves her lessons!
I completely agree with Chelsea's testimonial. Our teenage daughter has taken voice lessons with Alexandra for two years and has learned so much. Alexandra is a gifted, classically trained singer, but she is very open to having her students sing whatever music interests them. Our daughter has learned proper vocal technique from Alexandra and has developed her voice and performance tremendously. Alexandra is a gentle soul and especially well suited to working with young people. She is patient and kind. She wants to help each singer develop their individual talent. Anyone who can study with Alexandra is a lucky person. She is wonderful!
I am so happy I met Susanna and Jerrod! They're both phenominal teachers. They taught all three of my children to sing and play the piano through private instruction and group classes. They have found the instruction fun yet challenging and have really learned a lot. Thanks so much!
Senobia provides great voice lessons to my child. She focuses on developing his musicianship no just his voice. Her voice lessons and singing is all my son talks about. Never a dull moment for any of us.
Vicki is a patient teacher and can adapt to different styles depending on your child or adult. She can teach at any level and even can add voice lessons. My son has never been happier!
My daughter is enjoying her lessons and is excited to practice each day. She respects Ms. Fowler but is not intimidated and is learning how to use her voice. She is quite happy.
Emma is an excellent voice teacher! My daughter adores working with her - her voice lesson is the highlight of her week. Emma focuses on many aspects of singing and performance and works with her students in a very focused way. My daughter is learning a tremendous amount from her. And they have a ton of fun! I highly recommend her.
My experience with Mr. Penney is unparalleled and unequal with respect to any other voice teacher I've ever had. I thought a longtime voice teacher was the best until she passed away and I had to find a new teacher. Then I found Mr. Penney and I've never looked back. Everyone noticed a difference in my voice once I started lessons with him. He hears things in your voice like no one else and he is able to translate that into advice and guidance that enables his students of all ages to reach their potential and their goals.
She is fantastic! She is patient, funny, and made my daughter feel comfortable. Doc as she likes to be called is a wealth of knowledge and applies scenarios to real life circumstances that my Julia can relate too. She is hard working as she give her full attention to the lessons. My daughter looks up to her and appreciates her encouragement, support and sense of humor. She is a gme and a true find!
Dolly is amazing! I've only had about 4 lessons and already notice a huge improvement in my voice. She is very motivating and is super dedicated to making sure there is progress. I would recommend her to anybody of any age or skill level!
Not only can I assist in one understanding the anatomy of the throat and voice, but also I can help someone find their voice and train it.
