Deck or Porch Repair
I had searched on Thumbtack for a handyman who could repair a deck. I received a response from the owner "Howard" within minutes of posting the request. He booked the appointment for the very next day, had the quote to me that evening and the job was scheduled and completed within 3 days of the quote. Wow, how is that for responsiveness. Howard was very professional and knowledgeable in his field. Definitely not a hard sell, his prices were reasonable and he was willing to negotiate. He repaired and stained my deck and it looks fabulous! He did an excellent job and I will be using him to make some stairs and powerwash/paint my fence. I highly recommend Howard and his company Bullen Brothers. His business card will be readily accessible for all my future repair needs. Thank you so much Howard I truly appreciate you!Sep 6, 2018Verified
I am so happy I found Howard and I have recommended him to my friends. He went above and beyond on the job when he helped me seal holes from my crawl space to the kitchen to end a mouse problem. He did extra work while he was down in the crawl that I didn’t even ask him to do. He stayed late until the job was finished. He was sensitive to my house and even took his shoes off when he was inside and used his clean shop vac to clean the mess. He did a fantastic job searching for the holes in crawl space, uncovering some real doozies and then taking the time to do the job right. He didn’t take shortcuts. He is a pleasant person and a real gem! I highly recommend him!Feb 22, 2018Verified
Howard was punctual and flexible. He worked very hard and did an excellent job. He offered very fair and reasonable prices for the job that needed to be done. I would not hesitate recommending him to anyone. I feel very fortunate to have him. He is one of our Nation's Heros and that makes him even more special. I trust this man and the quality of his work speaks for itself.Dec 16, 2017Verified
Howard completed work on two separate projects over the course of three days. He was up front about the cost and stuck to it throughout the projects. Communication was fantastic, didn't mind answering questions about the work. It was a pleasure working with Howard. My wife and I will certainly call on him for future work.Dec 18, 2017Verified

- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?Rates are always negotiable! When quoting on work through Thumbtack, especially if the job description is vague or there is no picture of the work area, pricing needs to almost assume a "worst case" scenario. But if cost is a primary concern, we're always open to negotiating and coming up with ways to help reduce cost - whether that is the customer purchasing the materials or having flexibility on start times.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer? When at all possible, it's always best to meet and look over the work that needs to be done. This helps to reduce and uncertainty about expectations, but it's always best to put a face to the name!
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?Eight years as a Combat Engineer in the Marine Corps and a lifetime of home repairs! But more importantly, Bullen and Sons is a licensed Home Improvement Contractor
