Sean installed beautiful dark laminate floors in my home and I absolutely love them! He's super nice and even when I had to push my project back he still stuck to his price and was very happy to do my floors. I look forward to working with him on future projects! Thanks again Sean! 😊

Ihad laminate floors put in my home. Andy and his staff was very professional from the beginning to the end. He completed the job on time and cleaned up very well after. He goes above and beyond for his cutomers. When he did my estimate, he explained every detail to me and there wasn't any hidden fees. I had other quotes done prior to meeting Andy and he was able to beat the other quotes with very reasonable pricing. I needed my floors done by a certain date. Andy worked my job in to meet that specific date. He has is very polite and professional staff. They did a wonderful job on my floors and cleaned up everything. I was very lucky to find 4 seasons flooring on thumbtack. I will definitely use this company again in the future and I already referred him to many friends and family!

Donald and his team (Sam, Philly, and Gary) did an EXCELLENT JOB! We had them pull out our carpeting and install laminate flooring in our upstairs landing and office. They got it done in a little over 1 day which was extremely convenient for our busy schedule. Donald is extremely friendly and professional and his team are extremely hard working. I felt very comfortable having them in my home. The final product is awesome we LOVE it! Will definitely be hiring them again and recommend them to anyone!

Don and his team were amazing. I needed to have my laminate floors replaced prior to my stuff being delivered to my recently-purchased home. I was concerned about finding an honest, professional, and capable flooring guy without a personal recommendation. I read all of Don's amazingly good reviews (much like this one), which convinced me to take the chance. I hope this review convinces you to take the chance if you are on the fence. They were able to work around my schedule to make things happen overnight. Within days, the project was complete and I couldn't be more satisfied. He and his entire team were polite, considerate, and respectful of my home, leaving nothing but a great new floor. Don even made some suggestions for what might be a better option than what I had planned without up selling me or trying to persuade me to spend more. As I do more home projects, I will definitely keep Cavelier Enterprises in mind and would recommend them to anyone in a heartbeat.

From the onset, Carlton Banks was courteous & quick to respond to my request to install a bathroom vanity & sink. Although I could not give him an accurate time to install, as we were waiting on Empire to install vinyl flooring; he was very patient & professional with short notice. Troy Banks actually installed the vanity, and he was quick, but a true perfectionist. He even went to Home Depot to pick up an extra part to ensure everything fit perfectly. I could not ask for better service. I will definitely use them again and give my highest recommendation. OUTSTANDING WORK!!!

They said they'd do the vinyl installation. Came here once to measure. After, we got promises they'd be in afternoon, didnt happen. Next, they said 1st thing in the am. To now, not answering cell, not returning messages. We've been waiting since Tuesday. What is going on with them. I cant get ahold of them. Thanks.. Chris of Baum Renovations has done quite a few projects for me this year. He takes pride in his work and does a good job every time. He added gutter guard that came from Home Depot at a reasonable cost. No more cleaning the gutters!!! ... he replaced most of my windows and replaced a sill that was rotten. He wrapped the brick mold in aluminum. His source for windows included standard features that were add-ons for the cheap replacements. No more drafts !!!! ... Baum Renovations installed aluminum wrap on the fascia and frieze boards and a nice vinyl beadboard over the soffits. I recommend Baum Renovations. No more painting!!!

Another great experience with DNY Floor Outlet and Nelson Corniel! Yesterday they came and installed new vinyl flooring in our laundry room and new storage space. There were in and out in no time and it looks fabulous! This is the 2nd time we've used DNY Floor Outlet and we plan to use them again next year when we remodel our master bathroom and frankly we'll use them and recommend them for any flooring job!

Mark was first answer out of all the flooring professionals that I call. When he came to the house to take a look at the job I was pleasantly surprised how knowledgeable he was. I also appreciated how fast he was to get back to me with any questions I had. His prices were very reasonable and his quality of work was exceptional. He was quick to offer to help pick up parts for us that we needed. Our vinyl plank flooring came out beautiful. They worked fast and was done with the whole house in 2.5 days. Would definitely recommend Mark Smith (and his guys) to anyone needing work done on there floor.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

  • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
  • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
    • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
  • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
  • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
    • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
  • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
    • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
    • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
    • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
      • Includes removal of the dura rock.
  • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

  • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
    • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
  • 620 square feet of maple floor:
    • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
    • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
      • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
