This company was prompt about getting us a quote and also gave us information on things we could do ourselves. Our fence is beautiful and we love the privacy it now provides us. I couldn't ask for a better company to install a fence. Especially for first time home buyers!!

The job was for removal of an old fence and installation of a new one. The quality of the build was top notch. Built a true custom fence, using actual 4x4 post, 2x4s and individual planks instead of the pre build crap. Very professional build crew and staff. Highly recommend!!!

I hired Kenneth Newcomb to replace my old wooden fence in the backyard of my townhome. He purchased the wood and custom made the gate for me. He was very patient during the entire process because it rained for 2 straight weeks, which made it impossible for him to start the job, but the first dry day we got, he and his assistant were out there installing my fence. It turned out wonderful! I'm thankful for a job well done.

They just finished my patio and fence installation. I will definitely be hiring them again for future projects. Hemi was so polite and courteous. My patio looks amazing and the fence is awesome. They also gave me a good price on both the patio and the fence. They cleaned up after themselves as well. Very professional.

Don and his team were amazing. I needed to have my laminate floors replaced prior to my stuff being delivered to my recently-purchased home. I was concerned about finding an honest, professional, and capable flooring guy without a personal recommendation. I read all of Don's amazingly good reviews (much like this one), which convinced me to take the chance. I hope this review convinces you to take the chance if you are on the fence. They were able to work around my schedule to make things happen overnight. Within days, the project was complete and I couldn't be more satisfied. He and his entire team were polite, considerate, and respectful of my home, leaving nothing but a great new floor. Don even made some suggestions for what might be a better option than what I had planned without up selling me or trying to persuade me to spend more. As I do more home projects, I will definitely keep Cavelier Enterprises in mind and would recommend them to anyone in a heartbeat.

Re: Fence/Mailbox Installation - Burgess is truly knowledgeable in their trade. In fact, it was necessary for them to identify errors with the materials order the material supplier/pro were unable to determine. This resulted in at least two reschedules for the job. Their response was very professional.

Kevin responded quickly to my post for fence repair, he came out and provided me a very reasonable quote and allowed me time to get other quotes. His turned out to be the best and we scheduled a date for the job. He sent me a text asking if he could do the work earlier than scheduled, worked for me since it freed up our Saturday. He came out on time, worked a better part of the day and did an excellent job. We are very happy with the work he did and would certainly recommend anyone needing handyman services call him first.

Our fence was in serious disrepair, with sections falling apart, and lots of rotten boards. Andrew did a great job in replacing the sections with fresh wood. The fence was repaired in a very professional manner, with the top being level and the sections being seamless. Our fence now looks great! Thanks, Andrew.

Brandon and team did an amazing job on a challenging fence installation. Brandon was polite, knowledgeable and patient with me as I explored (and explored and explored) various fence options before finding one that I was happy with and that met my budget. In addition to building a custom fence for a picky customer, the team had to contend with concrete-like soil, mosquito infestation, poison ivy and crazy downpours... and yet, they never complained-- not one of them. When we ran into a rainy spell, I felt sure that the project would be delayed, but nope... they pitched a couple of tents and kept going. Customer service like that is rare. I'd hire them again for sure!

Jeff did several jobs for us while he was in Georgia, some small, and one large. He re-vented our clothes dryer, fixed our privacy fence, fixed two thresholds, installed our garbage disposal and new fixtures on our kitchen sink, and the biggie was installing porcelain tile on our kitchen. We couldn't be more pleased with the results and quality of workmanship. No job is to small or to big for him. Give him a call for any remodeling job you have, big or small.

I combined my master bedroom with a smaller bedroom to make a master suite. Chris Ward, owner of 1st Class Interiors Corp., performed the work which included expanding an existing closet in the smaller bedroom into a walk-in closet and expanding the opening between the two rooms so that it became one large suite with a sitting area and a new walk-in closet. They also did all of the drywall and finishing work in the project. A header had to be installed above the expanded opening because it was a weight-bearing wall. The end result is exactly what I had envisioned and the quality of the work was excellent and completed in the length of time that was projected.

This was a huge fence job involving a beachside property where neighors and homeowners are very particular about any new type of structure. Craftsman Fencing provided all the details upfront and reassured me that there would be no problems. Craftsman Fencing esceeding our expectations. Matt and his team took care of all the details and now we have a magnificent fence. This fence has created a wonderful courtyard for enjoyment of barbecues and family get togethers. Thanks Craftman Fencing. Please tell any customer whose interested to drive by and see your work. The address is 2320 Red Tide Road in Virginia Beach.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much is a redwood fence per foot?

A redwood fence is a long-lasting home investment that can add beauty and major curb appeal to your home. Redwood fence installation costs are higher than those for pressure-treated pine or cedar, due to the relative scarcity of the wood. Pricing can vary for redwood fence installation costs based on regional labor rates, current prices of redwood planks, the height and linear feet of the fence, and any custom designs or features. Redwood fences, in addition to being beautiful, are naturally more resistant against bugs and rot than less hardy or dense woods. Redwood fences also generally fare well in wet or humid climates due to their natural oils — which also make them easier to maintain. Materials costs per linear foot for redwood planks can range anywhere from $6 to $20 or more, depending on grade, quality and height.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

How much does it cost to install a vinyl fence?

A new fence can mean added home value, increased curb appeal, and improved home security. The national average vinyl fence installation cost is $4,600. Vinyl fences have a number of appealing qualities such as their durability, their lasting good looks (they don’t weather like wood does), their versatility, and the fact that they require little to no maintenance such as staining. Fencing companies typically charge per linear foot for vinyl fence installation. They calculate their estimates based on materials to be used, height of fence, linear feet of the proposed fence, and the accessibility of the terrain. If the workers need to level the land before work begins, your vinyl fence installation costs will probably increase. Vinyl fences are typically more expensive than wood or chain-link. For example, one company might charge $19-$22 per linear foot for a basic 6-foot vinyl privacy fence. Another company might charge $25-$35 per linear foot for standard vinyl fencing, while decorative fencing with custom detail could increase that cost to $50 per linear foot. For a 6-foot-high white vinyl privacy fence with two walk-through gates (plus demolition and disposal of the old fence), the cost of the total project could run $8,000. A 4-foot-high, 36-linear-foot white picket vinyl fence with one gate could cost $2,600.

How much does it cost to install a wood fence?

Help define your property line, protect your home and yard, and boost your curb appeal with a new wood fence. The national average for wood fence installation cost is $3,250. Wood fence installation costs will vary based on your geographic location, the type of wood you select, the height and style of wood fence you desire, and the condition of your property. Pressure-treated pine is a common and attractive choice that is usually resilient against rot and bugs. Cedar is another budget-friendly option that, although more expensive than pressure-treated pine, can be more affordable than redwood or teak. A wood fence requires maintenance to ensure its long-term health and beauty, so keep future staining and painting costs in mind when you’re calculating fence installation costs. Here are some examples of how height and material affect the approximate cost of wood fences:

      • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $15-$17 per linear foot.
      • 4-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $13-$20 per linear foot.
      • Cedar fence: $18-$25 per linear foot.
      • 6-foot-high, double-sided (meaning both sides are uniform), pressure-treated pine fence with 6x6 posts: $25 per linear foot.
      • 12-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with custom detailing: $75 per linear foot.
      • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with a custom lattice top: $30-$50 per linear foot.

How much does it cost to install a fence gate?

Adding a gate to your fence can be a practical way to provide access to a yard, work area or outdoor living space while ensuring safety and privacy. Gate installation costs will vary based on the gate material you select, the size of your gate, whether you install a fence at the same time, and any special features you’d like to add. Standard opening size for a single-wide gate is 4 feet; a double-wide gate is 8 feet. A small gate may be for decoration; a double-wide gate can be mounted on a rolling caster system to allow access for cars or wide loads. Here are some examples of average fence gate installation costs:

      • 4-foot, single-swing chain-link gate: $100 for materials and installation costs.
      • 28-foot wheeled chain-link gate on a caster system: $800-$1,000 for materials and installation costs.
      • 4-foot, single-swing wood gate: $75.
      • 8-foot double-wide wood gate: $150.
      • 4-foot white vinyl walk-through gate: $300–$400 for materials and installation costs.
      • 8-foot, double-wide white vinyl gate: about $800 for materials and installation costs.
      • White vinyl gate fence more than 8 feet wide: $1,200-$1,500 for materials and installation.
      • Arched black powder-coated aluminum pool gates: $175-$200 per gate.
