We are so glad that we found Thumbtack â and electrician Bill Guinazzo (Billâs Electrical Solutions) -- while web-searching for information about local electricians. We had recently purchased an old 1953 house that still had two-prong (ungrounded) outlets in most of the rooms. We posted our project on Thumbtack for upgrading to grounded outlets -- and got immediate responses from several local electricians.
Bill Guinazzoâs looked the best to us â based on his experience, reasonable hourly rate, and his comments about the scope of our project. He said that we would probably need 3-4 âcircuitsâ installed and wired to the âboxâ â and that each circuit could serve multiple receptacles (outlets).
Based on the info that he provided, we made a rough estimate of the probable cost of the whole project, which turned out to be significantly less than we had anticipated. So we called Bill to make an appointment for him to visit our house and finalize a quote for us.
Bill arrived promptly the next morning. He checked all of the old electrical outlets -- and our crawl space and attic space (one-story house). Best of all, his estimate for the cost of the whole project was in line with what we were expecting from his initial comments. So we hired him with âgreat expectationsâ â and he did not disappoint.
Bill is a very pleasant, calm, and low-key person (which we liked). And, he didnât mind explaining a lot of stuff (not just electrical) to my brother and me (age 68 and 70), who had never owned a ârealâ house before. (We had both always lived in apartments while pursuing separate careers in Maryland and New York. Now retired and both âsingle,â we have returned to the area of Virginia where we were born and raised: Norfolk â and now our new-âoldâ house in Virginia Beach).
Bill completed our project in two days (starting the day of his first visit) â buying the materials at Loweâs and giving us a copy of the receipt. Most of the wiring was done via our crawl space. On the second day, Bill told us that we had a âleakâ in the bathroom drainage pipes (where newer pvc pipe had been joined to old galvanized pipe). When he saw the leak in the crawl space, he took some photos to show to us â and he emailed me one of the photos so I can show it to plumbers when we ask for estimates to fix the leak.
After completing the project, Bill double-checked all of the outlets to make sure that everything was in order. And before submitting his final invoice, he deducted the cost of some extra materials from the purchase at Loweâs that had not been needed.
All in all, I donât think we could have had a better experience than hiring Bill Guinazzo for this project. Lucky us â to have found Thumbtack and Bill.
