Wow! This writer is phenomenal. I absolutely love the speech that Donna wrote for my daughter. Donna was an absolute delight to communicate with on this project. She was very professional and quite prompt. Her writing is fun and exciting for my daughter. Her rate was very reasonable, especially for the very high quality of her work. I will most definitely be hiring Donna again for my future projects. I highly recommend Donna Shannon.

I need Frank to transcribe a meeting and interview for me recently. His price was so much lower than anywhere else that I looked. Not only that, but I have NEVER gotten my transcription back on the same day!! Not even for my 30 minute requests! He is great and is in my phone as "My Writer". Such a gentleman!

I've been working with her for the past 3-4 months. I use this writer for editing/proofreading. She takes initiative. She doesn't hesitate to rewrite lines that can stand to be edited for clarity. She works well.

He's definitely not a scammer... I paid John Alexander to write my first screenplay and he delivered as promised. Yes It took way longer for him to finish than he originally told me but it got done and I was pleased with the results. I then came back and had him write my treatment for my Television series and he also delivered that as promised. Not only that he also went up and beyond and gave me his account info to a site that he was paying for to help me find agents, managers and production companies to shop my material too. I stumbled over this review because I was Googling him because I lost his number and I am interested in doing business for another Television series treatment and screenplay I need him to write for me. The above review is so bogus and false that it sickens me that someone would try to destroy someone's imagine, business, character, etc. just because you had a bad experience doesn't give you the write to call this man a scammer. I literally paid this man over $1000 and received everything he promised me. Now whomever reads this can do as they please but John Alexander comes highly recommended from me, because he's a great writer and delivers, granted it do takes him more time than he tells you but that comes to be expecting because people do have lives and things comes up. I was frustrated with the process and length of time but when it's all said and done it's worth it. Keep doing a great job John.

Christine is an extremely talented writer who can expertly craft a message so that it’s enjoyable to read, conveys all the key information, and speaks directly to the target audience. When it comes to market strategy she is one of the few who is great with both the big picture and coming up with innovative, creative ideas, as well as executing a plan, paying close attention to each detail. She is wonderful to work with; professional, reliable, and as an added bonus very fun to be around! I highly recommend Christine’s services.

Gabriela met my expectations perfectly. I will be hiring her again hopefully in the near future. She followed through on everything she said she would. She kept in contact with me while I was out of town and sent pictures of my babies daily. I felt extremely comfortable leaving my fur babies in her capable hands. Thank you!

    S. Hasselbacher is always my first choice for an editor for grant proposals, conference papers, and other material as part of graduate school in anthropology. She always works quickly and efficiently to offer helpful comments. She is always on time and in fact almost always early! Her valuable comments point out where grammar, word choice, organization, and the overall argument can be improved yet she never makes me feel defensive. People have often been impressed with my grant proposals and conference papers, at times noticing with approval changes she recommended with regards to word choice and organization. She is also helpful with grammatical minutiae and anthropology style guides. I cannot recommend her enough!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you hire a good grant writer?

Grants are available to nonprofit organizations, for-profit businesses that qualify for government grants, and individuals who qualify for foundation or government grants. Hiring a good grant writer can help you gain funding in your chosen field. According to the American Grant Writers’ Association, grant writers can help you research potential grant opportunities; write grant proposals, create budgets, and build budget narratives; review written materials before you submit; prepare a business plan; analyze your organization for grant competitive qualities; prepare research grants; help with 501(c)(3) applications for nonprofits; and more. Investing in the right grant writer could result in a financial win for your organization. Generally no licenses or certificates are required to be a good grant writer, but you may want to find a grant writer who has been certified (not just received a certificate of completion) by a reputable organization such as the Grant Professionals Certification Institute. Qualities to look for in a good grant writer include:

    • Proven success writing winning grants, especially in your target area.
    • Strong writing skills.
    • Strong math skills and demonstrated proficiency with budgeting.
    • Careful attention to detail — brilliant grant proposals may be rejected just for formatting errors, so you want someone who follows instructions explicitly.
    • Expertise in your target area.
    • Punctuality and good communication skills.

How much does a grant writer cost?

Hiring a grant writer can give you a competitive edge when applying for financial grants for your business or nonprofit organization, or as an individual. The cost to hire a grant writer can vary depending on their academic background, areas of expertise, previous grant writing success and years of experience. According to the Grant Professionals Association, grant writers should be paid hourly or by flat fee. It is unethical for a grant writer to accept a commission or percentage compensation of grant monies received. They can, however, be awarded bonuses in line with the hiring company’s prevailing practices. Here are some examples of average grant writing fees:

    • Hourly rate for grant writers with less experience or fewer grants awarded: $25-$35 per hour.
    • Hourly rate for grant writers with some degree of success: $35-$75 per hour.
    • Hourly rate for grant writers with proven success winning large grants: $75-$150 or more per hour.
    • For a smaller grant, the writer may charge a flat fee of $200-$500 for preparation and submission.

Pricing may also vary based on the complexity of the grant application. A federal grant that requires pages of research, budgets and a business plan may take more than 30 hours to prepare. For a high-level grant writer who charges $100 per hour, this means $3,000 or more in grant writing fees.

Most grant writers will provide you with a total cost estimate before agreeing to the work. You may be required to pay a deposit up front, or the grant writer may work from a retainer. Often, seasoned grant writers pay for themselves in the long run by writing successful grants.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
