About this pro

How does your business stand out?

I don't know another Trainer that does what I do. I call my training "Foundational" I start dogs with a whole different mindset then anyother. Dogs are all hard wired to respect an authority figure. While other trainers may use the same termanology in regards to leadership they mostly all start with heel, sit, & stay which is external behavior. I have developed two exercises that will get dogs respecting their owners as the authority before the basic commands. I start with getting the dogs head and heart on my agenda this is foundational. I have developed a quick transferable method so my clients can have the same control from their dogs that I get.

What do you enjoy about the work you do?

I love it when my client sees the results in so short a period of time with their puppies and dogs. When there dog turns into the dog they hoped to have when they orriginaly went out to get their pup.

    Absolutely wonderful!
Gail is absolutely wonderful. We hired her to train our two year old beagle mix. He wouldn't listen to us unless we had a treat we couldn't take him out on a walk without him pulling the leash, to the point where he basically walked us ! Gail came over and worked her magic! Its been almost a year and he is still behavin as he should . we still keep I'm contact with Gail since she also does boarding. We are a !military couple with no family in Virginia and when we go on vacation I only trust Gail to watch our two beagles while we are out and she is so flexible with us and our flight schedule. I would recommend her to anyone! She is truly fantastic. Thank you Gail! Benji and Naila appreciate all you do and taught us.

Gail was completely professional and helpful with my puppies obedience training. Immediately my puppy took to Gail's effective training. My puppy has been doing so well in her training, Gail even came back a second time to make sure we were fully grasping the concept and we are! Thank you Gail you are very appreciated!

Gail is an outstanding and patient trainer; her methods are not only simple and straightforward- they make sense and are a breath of fresh air in an industry that is clearly bloated with gimmicks promising results rarely achieved with any degree of consistency. Highest recommendation!

Our experience with Gail was great. As first time dog owners Gail took the time to go over every detail of dog ownership and began working on solving our issue.

Gail has balls of steel! She had our obnoxious 100 lbs Rottweiler behaving like a different dog after one 2 hour session and we look forward to working with her in the future.

Gail left our home not too long ago, and the amount of information we had from the beginning vs the end is unmatched. Gail provided an unrushed visit with our puppy and had the knowledge that gave us the confidence to train our new puppy. She has scheduled a follow up visit for my next week and we are actually excited to see the progress Coco will make and what we have in store for next meeting. It was wonderful to meet you Gail! Kym

My “Bella” was so out of control, my husband was considering finding her another home… We are an "older" couple (70's) and Bella is a 3 yr old Border Collie/Lab mix that we adopted when she was 3 months old. She has always been a “high-energy” pooch and we have been taking traditional classes since we got her a little less than 3 years ago. She was always great in class, but not so much at home. She barked incessantly and every hair on her back stood up if people, dogs, blowing grass, anything that surprises her comes to her field of vision. After being boarded for 10 days, everything was so much worse. She tried to attack her doggy classmates – she’s taken classes with these same pooches for 2 ½ years! Our previous trainer suggested medication, the vet prescribed Prosaic – and other than sleeping more, and loss of appetite, her behavior did not improve. We were at our wits end. I contacted Gail @ Lifestyle Obedience and when she arrived at our home –the first words out of her mouth were – “You’re going to have a different dog when I leave.” After about 2 hours, we did, indeed, have a transformation I would not have believed possible! Gail didn’t use a shock collar or corporal punishment; she just used common sense - dog centered training. Before Gail left, Bella walked down the stairs beside me without any pulling; we walked to the beach without pulling; she didn’t bark at the other dogs (people, crabs, etc.) on the beach. My husband and I were flabbergasted! I was skeptical about the longevity of her transformation, but the next day, she was just as calm and compliant as she was when Gail left. It’s now been just a week and our Bella walks without pulling, without barking, and she seems so much more calm, and yet not “cowed” or broken-spirited in any way. I would recommend Gail and Lifestyle Obedience whole-heartedly!

Just picked up our dog Rudy after spending 3 weeks with Gail at Lifestyle Obedience. He is a 100 pounds of boundless energy and we weren't sure how this was going to turn out, but Rudy has learned so much my husband asked "Who is this dog?" He has progressed so much and I know with Gail's help as well as our dedication to the training she has done, Rudy will be the well behaved dog we have been wanting. Thank you Gail. I would highly recommend Gail for any type of dog obedience or training. She is extremely knowledgeable, professional and a true dog whisperer. Her guidance in correcting behavior in my adult dog and training lessons with our large puppy was spot on and successful. I continue to go to her for advice when I face challenges and most of the time the problem is with me not the dog because the dog responds to the training when done positively and correctly per her directions.

Gail was encouraging, supportive, she answer questions and explains how and why. Most importantly is what she teaches works with the dog. The owner might take a little longer ☺

Gail knows what she is doing, she is the best dog trainer in the USA. She is realistic, fair, reasonable, and completely honest. Throw away your clickers, throw away your e-collars, and find someone who can COMMUNICATE with your dog fairly, with clarity, and get the job done! Training method is totally transferrable, you don't have to take home a dog that only listens to the trainer! Take home a dog that listens to and RESPECTS YOU! Have an off-leash, trustworthy companion. Gail is the only person in the world who can do what she does- Cesar Millan, move aside!

With Gail, I left my gsd pup at 4 months with her for off leash training. She kept her there for 4 (long for me) weeks. I got to visit and see how she was doing, I was impressed! Not only did she do great work with Jazmin but she trained me (which was harder) how to keep up with the traing. If at any time thereafter I needed a touch up, we either talked on the phone or we'd get together. After her hard work she didn't want to see Jazmin or myself fail. I was extremely pleased and sorry she's left Nor Cal.

Q&A

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am always looking for anything that will make me a better trainer and dog owner so to pass it onto my clients.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I was hard wired for it. My dad was a hunter and had hunting dogs. Mom breed terriers. I was around dogs all my life and I couldn't stay away from them. I trained any dog that I came in contact with.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I correct a lot of behavior problems other trainer weren't able to. I train a lot of puppies also to have a strong reliable "come when called" with distraction. I prefer the young dogs so to get them on the right start and not have to solve problems I would much rather prevent them. I also board my clients dogs.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
I confess since I started teaching my clients how to establish authority from the Dogs Point of Veiw I get tickled every time I see a dog get on the owners agenda. I am proud of all of my jobs. Just did another one where the owner had other trainers and her vet even told her to "put her dog down" when within ten minutes the clients jaw was on the ground amazed at how quickly I had her 100lb 3yr old dog sitting politly at the door to go out. Then walking by my car with my dog in it for distraction and her dog looking at me instead of the car with the dog inside.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
I'm glad you found me!! Reserch the board/ train programs that are offered. When working with a living animal and restricted to a time frame to get the job done I get concerned for the dog. Ask "what method is used?" "How many dogs do you take in at a time?" I am concerned how popullar the e-collars have become for short term board/train programs.Especially for younger pups and dogs. RESERCH ask questions.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
This day and age it is hard to believe that someone truly has their best interest in mind and not serving the all mighty dollar. Having a well behaved house pet and traveling companion is not about how much time you have to practice. A lot of trainers have made their clients feel very shameful for not practicing enough. Dogs are internaly wired to lead or be led. And most well meaning people and trainers don't know the first thing as to how to do this for a dog. If your dog wants to chase a cat teaching him a sit won't change his mind. Yet if your dog has surrendered to your leadership and is on your aenda, when the dog sees a cat he will ask if he can chase the cat. I create a "thinking" dog not a "reactionary" dog
