Even though my washer repair would have been more expensive than a new unit Ray took his time and did a thorough assessment and advised me of all my options. Appreciated his time and effort.

I would absolutely recommend using the professional services of Assembly’s For You. This is my first time using the THUMBTACK app to secure someone to help with the issues I needed addressed at my rental property. I was a little skeptical at first, but David was very communicative and thorough during the whole process. Once he actually met up to assess the job, he was upfront and straightforward. I ended up saving time and money by using the REPAIR option versus just REPLACING everything. I can certainly appreciate his honesty and integrity.

Kevin responded quickly to my post for fence repair, he came out and provided me a very reasonable quote and allowed me time to get other quotes. His turned out to be the best and we scheduled a date for the job. He sent me a text asking if he could do the work earlier than scheduled, worked for me since it freed up our Saturday. He came out on time, worked a better part of the day and did an excellent job. We are very happy with the work he did and would certainly recommend anyone needing handyman services call him first.

I received services on my gas range a few weeks ago and they were excellent! An appointment time was set for start of repair, however technician was very considerate to call to let me know the job prior to mine was taking longer than he expected. Enough heads up was given. During the repair I received knowledge on how to prevent in the future! I was very happy with Hampton Roads Appliance Repair, and will recommend and use in the future.

Mr. Chandlers services were subperb. I would highly recommend him for any services involving the repair and remodeling of houses. He's made different repairs to our house and each repair was done in a timely and professional fashion. He went above and beyond our expectations. He also worked with and around our schedules and was great working around our kids and even taught them a little of what he was doing. He is a family man from what we know of him and also a believer, which we love. Thank you Mr.Chandler for your services, you were exceptional and we will be in touch for the next project. -The Richardson Family-

He came to fix my Husqvarna riding mower and left having done that, and tuned up my echo weed eater and backpack blower. He had all the parts on hand. Price is perfect and he comes to you. Highly recommend. And the solar powered trailer made this hippie feel good.

Very fast response, clean and neat, has order my parts and should hear from him by the end of the week. Very knowledgable. I looked up the cost of parts on the Internet, and the prices he quoted were very fair. Will update this review when parts are installed.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

      • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
      • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
      • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.
