Tony and his crew renovated my entire full bathroom, kitchen, half bath, and exterior studio workspace. Their work included plumbing, electrical, insulation, sheetrock, tile, hardwood floor refinishing, cabinetry assembly and install, and new floor install. I initially hired Tony for a much smaller scope of work but once he signed up over a month ago I don't think he has missed a single day of work at my home except for one or two Sundays. His work ethic is unparalleled but more importantly, his "can-do" attitude was always positive and professional. I repeatedly had him fix the mistakes of other workers I had hired. He never complained - he just politely informed me that he would "take care of it", often at no extra charge. My job changed multiple times but my price with Tony stayed the same. He reminded me several times that he wasn't the type to "nickel and dime" his clients and that he was more invested in building relationships with satisfied customers. Of all the people I had working in my home Tony is the only one I would not hesitate to call back or recommend to friends. The one note I would add is that I felt most at ease when it was Tony himself doing the actual work. He is the lead contractor because of his attention to detail. I know that if he comes into my space to work he will leave it clean. There is a reason why Tony has so many glowing reviews on Thumbtack. He is competent, quick, and will get your job done for an extremely fair price. Moreover, he (and his crew) are just kind and professional people that really do their absolute best to get your job done right.

John hung three tv's for $300. Can't beat that price. He advised he wanted to be at my house when Comcast was installing. So glad he was b/c we were able to get Comcast to run the wire for him to create an outlet instead of having Comcast drill a hole in our hardwood floors. The tv's look great. Will get John back for other projects.

They did a fantastic job remodelling the kids bathroom. It required removing a walk separating toalet and tub from vanity; drywall; New tub; tiles around tub with 4 inserts and tile on Floor. Ive worked with other contractors and this was the most reliable. Owner checked all work himself and nade sure we were satisfied. Will definitely use them again because Of the quality and price.

I truly like the hardwood floor Saga team installed, even better than the original floor with problem fixed. There used to have some creak voice when step on in several places, they made it absolutely quite everywhere. They move furniture around with great care. The floor looks beautiful. I would recommend Saga flooring to my friends in the future.

He replaced carpeting in my closet with hardwood flooring and did a tremendous job! Appreciate him making the trip for a small job. Also he was a huge help when I didn't have all the materials needed to complete the job. Oops! Went out of his way to get the last of the materials and finish the job. Thank you!

Workmanship was good, overall I like his workmanship, he showed up on time and finished on time. My only quibble is that the quarter rounds that were installed needed to be caulked and painted. This is not a part of the install. I was disappointed that I was not advised of this when the quote was prepared. I have a installed floor but not a complete flooring install. I will have to hire someone else to perform the caulking of the nail holes, gaps in the quarter round and painting of the quarter rounds. This will complete the job.

I cannot begin to express how fortunate I am to have found Jeisson and his crew. I used Classic Wood Floors LLC to refinish the floors in my 1926 bungalow which had been painted over, on, and tiled over. Jeisson came out for the initial consult and had a quote to me the next day. I was mid demo project so when I finished a day or so later and uncovered more hardwood floors he came back out to measure, discuss options, and provided me with another quote that evening. After I received several other quotes that were 5x what Jeisson had quoted and was advised by the other professionals to just put down new floors (the floors were in excellent shape) I went with Classic Wood Floors LLC. Jeisson came out again to verify the species of the wood in all rooms and took the time to explain how he would tackle the project, when he would start, and when I could expect him to finish. Throughout the process he sent me picture updates of the sanding, laying of new wood floors in kitchen, staining, etc. I even popped by at the end of a day unannounced to check on the project and everything was cleaned up and tidy. Everything turned out amazing and the work far exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend these guys and if I need another project done I will be contacting them immediately!!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

  • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
    • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
  • 620 square feet of maple floor:
    • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
    • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
      • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

  • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
  • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
    • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
  • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
  • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
    • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
  • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
    • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
    • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
    • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
      • Includes removal of the dura rock.
  • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
