I was contacted by John via this website on a Sunday. I needed my floor tiled asap. He scheduled to come out the next day and put me in touch with his floor Guy Lester. I was contacted the next day and was told that they wouldn't be able to start until the next day. The job ended up taking a little longer than expected, and I think this was due to them being spread out at different jobs. As far as the work , Lester worked his tail off to get it completed. Can't really complain about the workmanship other than one issue I have to take care of. Long story short, if you have the time, I highly recommend these guys.

Extremely nice guy. He worked very quickly too! I'm very pleased with his work. We had a ceiling fan changed out and kitchen sink fixtures also changed out. I will definitely use him again for other jobs!

We had Coastal Contracting paint from ceiling to baseboards our 2200 sq ft home to prepare to list the home for sale. Ronnie Evans was the lead project manager and point of contact through Thumbtack. I found him to be very professional, easy to work with and attentive to my requests. He managed a crew of workers that finished the job in less time than I thought it was going to require. There were some touch ups here and there, but overall the property looks great. Calls and texts were answered quickly. I thought the cost for the project was a bit pricey, but they finished on time and with good quality. Recommend.

Nilson and his crew, simply put, have been phenomenal! I engaged them primarily for exterior paint and replacement of rotting Masonite siding and trims but was so impressed with their work ethics, skills, speed, and timely completion that I extended the contract for many other projects ranging from interior painting, gutter repairs, replacement of the entry door, and many more. They didn't fail to deliver on every project! All this for very reasonable price! Specially commendable is their timely response to my initial inquiry on Thumbtack, keeping lines of communication open throughout the engagement, always following through their commitments. Very courteous crew and went above and beyond my expectations on every project. I will highly recommend them for any big or small project.

We called for Paul to give us an estimate for wall paper removal several weeks ago. To our considerable surprise, he came, offered a reasonable and fair price that we accepted. The real surprise was that he arrived ready to tackle the job that day. He did a good job and we were pleased with the results. He removed the wallpaper completely and primed the walls for paint. We were so enthralled with his services that we invited him back to remove the wallpaper in yet another room and paint all the walls that he had cleared of wallpaper. Paul is very complete. He removed the wallpaper, skim coated the walls where needed, primed all walls with oil-based primer to seal the walls and is painting the walls as I write this. We are very happy with Paul's services and would gladly recommend him to all.

Working with H&T has been such a seamless process. The open communication, professionalism, and detailed follow up are things we need to see more often in customer service these days, and they delivered. My interiors were painted according to some good recommendations from the owner. I’m ecstatic, because it’s like I’m walking into a brand new home. KaRon’s passion to get the job done right exceeded my expectations! Thank you.

Juan Mendoza did several jobs for me last summer. He's professional and did a professional job for us, painting, wall and ceiling board work, and some plumbing. His prices were very reasonable and he took no down payment and helped with his own supplies and equipment, and he billed us only upon our satisfaction of the job completed. He was very dependable. We plan on having him do more jobs for us this summer. Mr. David

Jorge has completed numerous projects for me as I update and renovate my home. He is prompt, courteous, has assistance from his wife and son, is trustworthy, reasonable, and efficient. Most importantly he is honest. He first assesses the project, then sends a written estimate via email, gives a starting date, and cleans up after he completes each task. He buys the materials and brings them to the job. He saves me worry and time. He has completed the following projects for me: 1. Repaired drywall where I had had a water leak and painted the ceiling. 2. Painted all of my wood trim and turned it white. (Totally changed the brightness of the rooms). Has painted 5 rooms. 3. Removed wall paper and painted walls in a 2 story foyer. (his wife Monica cuts paint like no one I have ever known). 4. Removed and painted shutters and rebuilt several to avoid the cost of having custom wooden shutters made. (Very impressive work) 5. Removed a set of brick steps and replaced with new, "fake" wood steps, installed a railing. Rebuilt steps in my garage and installed a handrail. 6. Removed chipped paint and touched up white trim on the exterior ( house has 20 windows on the front). 7. Hung a double rear door that was custom made and has windows above it. 8. Built columns, hung a swing, painted porch ceiling... I have probably forgotten some projects. He has a wonderful work ethic and is pleasant. I could include photos, but I do not know how to do that!

After years of wanting my kitchen remolded, I've searched high and low for an affordable company with quality work. That is exactly what I got from this company. The team was professional and respectful, listening to my every concern/need. My countertops, wall paintings, and floor layout came out exactly how I imagined with little to no time at all. The crew left my house feeling more like a home. Will definitely hire/recommend this company should I need any work done. Thanks again!

Robert did an excellent job painting the interior of our home, as well as our porch, door frame, shudders, and kitchen cabinets! It was a BIG project! Over 3,000 square feet but they handled it very well. It was alot less stressful than I had imagined it would be. They always go the extra mile for us!

I hired Mike to replace a bedroom door in my home. Mike was very prompt in replying to my post. I set up a phone meeting to discuss the scope of the job. Mike arrived in a timely manner, and did a very professional job. The job was a little harder than expected as my home is 104 years old. So, my measurements weren't exact, but that was no problem for Mike. He made the necessary adjustments, completed the job, and cleaned up all saw dust debris very well before leaving. I will definitely hire Mike again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
