Ramone is outstanding!!!!! He called back. He showed up. He worked very hard. He asked me all along the way if it was okay he is a joy to talk to. He is caring and cares about the work he does. We had him here for days working on things my husband just could not do with his new hip and knee. Ramone put in a door , installed gutters , painted and best of all put in a deck to make a eye sore look beautiful. He came on time if not early and spelled out everything on and worked with a woman that's mind changes several times along the way I totally recommend Ramone!!!

I had called other plumbers who were referred by friends but they were not responsive and when they did show up they could t perform the job that day. Ricky contacted me right away and scheduled a visit the next day. He appraised my job and completed it quickly and professionally the same afternoon. I had a new gas dryer that required a new gas line installation and a new vent from an existing gas line in my laundry room. He also installed my washing machine. I will definitely call Ricky when my 2004 gas water heater kicks the bucket.

I had ice building up on my HVAC refrigerant line and the system wasn't cooling like it used to. Austin was able to quickly diagnose the issue and get the system back in action. Additionally, he was able to provide solid advice on what to look out for in the coming months and depending on how things go, what I could expect my options to be. On top of being timely, knowledgeable, and affordable, he had a great attitude and was very professional. A+

Absolutely amazing experience. It's hard to put into one short review how incredible Jason and his team are. Both he and Oliver went above and beyond to help me surprise my wife on her birthday with a bathroom remodel. Who would have though you could strip wallpaper, prep drywall, prime, paint, install plumbing, put in fixtures and help with everything else that goes into a bathroom remodel in one day? Well these guys made it happen and had smiles on their faces the whole time. You can really tell they love what they do and man do they do it well. Jason was extremely responsive throughout the process, and offered me his advice on so many things, even offered all of his tools I needed for things like sanding the cabinets and hanging mirrors and fixtures. If you are looking for any sort of handymen around the house or local business DO NOT HESITATE to contact Jason, this guy knows his stuff and is very good at what he does. I can't say enough how happy I was working with HHH. Thanks again Jason!

Michael's HVAC repaired the leaking pipe to our tub. He came in a very short time of initial contact. He wore protective covers on his shoes, did a thorough job, and left the area super clean. In fact, I believe his repair is better than the original pipe. Michael's used copper pipe to strengthen the hot water connection instead of total plastic pipe as originally installed. His prices are reasonable. I would recommend him and use him again.

I was given the name of Jesse and Excelsior Air several months ago. Got up one morning to find heat not working. Check breakers, reset thermostat and left for work early. Returned home for late lunch to find house temperature dropping steadily and no heat. Called friend and got name and number. Called and Jesse answered on 1st ring. Dispatched a truck with Justin to the house in 30 minutes. Justin introduced himself, listened to the problem, investigated it. Returned from under the house within 15 minutes with issue. Got replacement part in town and installed within 1 hour. Heat back on and working well. Reviewed extra equipment and replaced batteries in thermostat. Very nice, professional, courteous and complete job on work. Would recommend them and took additional cards to pass out to neighbors, etc.

Hands Down - No Exceptions! ! Griffin Air is the best HVAC company we have ever used. I can say that with validity, having used HVAC companies in Hanover, Henrico, Fluvanna, and Middlesex Counties over the past few years. Stop looking - you won't find a better company. Griffin Air installed a completely new HVAC system that presented some challenges. Josh insisted on perfection.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

        Who fixes furnaces?

If your furnace needs to be repaired, you’ll want to find a qualified heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) repair technician. Each state has its own licensing requirements; some require all HVAC technicians to have an HVAC license, while others only require someone operating an HVAC service and installation company with employees to hold a contractor’s license. For example, in Alabama, the Alabama Board of Heating Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Contractors regulates licensing, while in Kansas there is no state regulatory body and HVAC licensing can vary by region. For simple furnace repairs like changing out a filter, a trusted handyman can probably handle the job, but a trained professional should be hired for tasks like replacing a gas valve, installing a new inducer fan motor or other critical furnace repair jobs that involve dealing with gas leaks or other dangerous conditions. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost me to replace my furnace?

The national average for furnace replacement is between $1,800 and $2,500. The cost can range dramatically higher depending on the model of furnace you select, any repair work you require, your location and the cost of installation. Furnace installation costs can be more than the furnace itself due to the cost of doing business and the expertise needed to install the HVAC equipment. Installing a new furnace generally requires technical know-how and the proper tools and licensing. It’s best to hire a pro and budget for furnace installation rather than risk potentially unsafe DIY installation. This will ensure your home’s safety. Check to see if your HVAC contractor has the proper licensing to do the job. If you need duct repair or replacement, expect to pay more for your furnace installation costs. The price for duct repair could be an hourly rate ranging on average anywhere from $85 to $150 per hour, with additional costs for parts.

How much does it cost to replace a gas furnace?

The cost to replace your gas furnace will vary based on the type and size of furnace you select, labor and installation costs, and any repairs your HVAC system may need. Nationally, average HVAC prices for a heating specialist range between $1,800 and $2,500. It’s important to select the right size gas furnace for your heating needs. A furnace that’s too small won’t heat your house properly, while a furnace that’s too large will run inefficiently, cycling on and off and likely breaking down sooner. HVAC specialists calculate your exact heat needs by measuring your home and incorporating variables such as the regional climate and your home’s level of insulation. Retail pricing for gas furnaces can range from $650 up to $3,000 and more. The higher the AFUE (annual fuel utilization efficiency) rating of the furnace, the more efficient it is at turning fuel into heat and the lower your carbon footprint and utility bill will be. HVAC installation costs are often based on an hourly rate and can range from under $50 to over $100 per hour, depending on the company and the furnace being installed. Higher-end furnaces cost more to install because they require added labor and expertise. For a typical installation, it might take two HVAC installation pros one day or less to remove your old furnace and replace it with a new one.

How much does it cost to have your furnace cleaned?

To keep your furnace in good working order it’s important to have it regularly cleaned. The national average furnace cleaning cost ranges from $60 to $80, though prices can vary greatly based on where you live in the country and what your furnace maintenance includes. An HVAC company may have different rates for different levels of furnace maintenance. For example, one company may offer general furnace maintenance for $79 and advanced maintenance for $138. Another company may offer a 38-point maintenance check for $89 and a 64-point maintenance check for $178. According to Energy.gov, a standard furnace cleaning and maintenance visit can include:

        • Checking the vent connection pipe and chimney
        • Checking the physical integrity of the heat exchanger
        • Adjusting the controls to provide optimum air temperatures
        • Checking the combustion chamber for cracks
        • Testing for carbon monoxide (CO)
        • Adjusting the blower control and supply-air temperature
        • Cleaning and oiling the blower
        • Removing soot and corrosion from the furnace
        • Checking the fuel input and flame characteristics
        • Sealing the connections between the furnace and the main ducts

How much will it cost me to replace my air conditioner?

If your AC system is in need of replacement, the national average air conditioner installation costs range from $2,930 to $3,670. Costs can vary greatly depending on whether you are replacing a wall or window unit or a central air system. A central air system is connected to ductwork that runs throughout your house and pumps cooled air into your various rooms via vents and registers. A central air conditioning system is far more costly than wall or window units. Selecting a central AC system that has a high seasonal energy-efficiency ratio (SEER) will likely lower both your carbon footprint and your utility bill. The type of AC system you select, where you live in the country, and the regional costs of HVAC work, duct removal and replacement, and ductwork repairs that are needed are some of the main factors that affect the cost of new air conditioner installation. Here are some examples of average costs for installing forced-air systems.

        • Install Lennox 16 SEER single-stage AC unit: $5,743
          • Removing and disposing of the old furnace, moving and reconnecting the water heater, and installing a 3.5-ton gas furnace. The job took 18 hours of labor.
        • Installation of a new 14 SEER single-range cooling system: $4,000-$6,000
        • Installation of a new 16 SEER two-range cooling system: $6,000-$8,000
        • Installation of a new 20 SEER variable capacity cooling system: $8,000-$12,000
