We did Board&Train for a very wild but lovable Pug, Jack. Jack was 10 months old when we got him and obviously did not get proper attention prior to our adoption. Jack was wild and very skiddish. I had trained him a little but marginal success. Joseph took over while we went on vacation. He went above and beyond. Jack now responds to his commands and is a regular member of the family (instead of being a wild Pug). Joseph was very patient with the dog & the family (with kids). He has a passion for training dogs & it shows. Joseph is very conscientious and insightful. I highly recommend Board & Train, a very efficient & effective way to train your dog. Plus, Joseph's prices are very reasonable. Lastly & importantly, Joseph is an Army Veteran. It's great to support a veteran!

As a pet owner, it can be a stressful to leave your fur-baby with just anyone. I am so thankful to have found Mindy who went above and beyond by cleaning the cat litter and food bowels, taking out the trash, and getting the mail. She quickly put my mind at ease with text updates throughout my vacation on how my cat was doing and although it seems trivial, being sent pictures of my cat cuddling up to her affirmed my decision in hiring Mindy. She is clearly an animal lover and is genuinely compassionate about the well-being of your pet. I highly recommend Mindy as your pet sitter - will definitely be using her services in the future! Thank you again Mindy - Dorian was in great hands.

Heather takes care of our little 4 year old dog when we have to be away from home for any period of time. Our pet is very spoiled and he loves Heather, so we know she treats him well. It means a lot to us to have someone to trust to care for our pet the same way we do.

Candy kept us posted on how our kitties were doing while we were away from home, and that gave us such reassurance that our fur-babies were well taken care of. Will definitely have her pet sit for us again!

This was our first time leaving our animals (dog and cat) with an overnight pet sitter. Connie was responsive and on-time each day. When my husband and I returned home, the animals were calm and relaxed. We will definitely be using Connie's services again in the future.

great experience- Very happy with Teresa and with the great care she gave our puppy. She went above and beyond and I immediately felt comfortable with her and with leaving our dog in her home. She watched him overnight and groomed him as well-his first haircut looks fantastic. I will for sure call her again and would highly recommend her for any puppy care.

Our two dogs (sadly, now down to one) have enjoyed many weeks with Brenda over the past several years. They are always happy and healthy upon our return from trips--whether overnight or two weeks. Our dogs have always been extremely comfortable with her, and we highly recommend her services. She is very knowledgeable, dependable--the best pet sitter we've ever hired.

Kimberly is amazing with my dog - I'm so happy to have found her! She's helped me out frequently, both for regular walks and out of town trips. I always have complete peace of mind when she looks after my dog...she sends regular text updates and photos, which is greatly appreciated. She is professional, reliable, and truly loves dogs - highly recommended!

Trish is such a dog whisper...er. When she arrives our Sheppard is barking at her. She just kept moving to Bailey ( who she came to groom) Harley just walks off because she ignored him. Bailey gets the royal treatment for 2 plus hours . She offered to trim the 3 rd dogs nails ( she is very old and fragile. Just as she is packing up Harley welcomes her to trim her nails. I would refer anyone to go to Petsmart in Frederickdburg to see Trish to care for your dog. Besides she is just a fun person to be with. Sharon " from Bumpass"

We have two rescue pups, who are 'sensitive' to say the least. We have been asking Bentie to keep them for over a year after meeting her through a mutual friend. Bentie is our favorite dog (and house) sitter that we have ever had! She is truly an animal lover and it really shines when she is around the pups. Even when we ask her to come to the house and let them out really quick, Bentie goes the extra mile and will spend an hour or more with them talking and playing. When she visits the house they play in the yard, go for walks or to the river, and she even brushes our 'major shedder' often. Our dogs love when she comes and we feel at ease whenever they are home with her. She has been great for quick walks/ feedings, as well as weekend or week long vacations. My wife and I really cannot reccomend Bentie highly enough!

The sitting job has not started yet. Therefore this rating is based solely on my initial contact. I asked if I could go out to their house and see where Georgia will be staying. I took Georgia along as well. Sese welcomed me and took me into the kitchen and showed me the quite open space where Georgia, their own dog and any other guests would be free to play. It included the kitchen, a dining area and a large glassed in porch that opens onto a fenced back yard. Georgia immediately went exploring and got on well with their small dog and another dog who was there as a guest. The other two dogs appeared to totally at ease sith Sesi. Sese told me they would send us photos of Georgia while we are away. I feel comfortable that Jimmy and Sese will take good care of Georgia. I'll be able to write more after we return from our trip.

Kelly and Ellory Greene agreed to sit my cat. Chloe for ten days in their home while I traveled abroad. This approach to pet care was a new experience for all of us. They did an excellent job in caring for Chloe as I asked and giving her much love and attention during my absence. I am highly pleased with their service and would recommend anyone looking for care of their pet in the sitter's home to consider the Green's. The fee which I paid was the same as if they traveled to my house twice a day. I considered this a fair arrangement as housing a pet creates extra house-keeping and 24 hour daily responses. Janet is wonderful dog sitter and I will definitely use her services in the future. She stayed overnight with my three dogs for three nights while I was on vacation and I felt confident she would do a great job from our initial meeting. One of my pups is very sick and she gave her extra care and lots of feedback. My dogs love Janet and I know they can be a challenge, but she handled them well. I loved the handwritten notes that she left. Her personality is wonderful and it shows in her interaction with not only my pups but with me as well. I returned home to a clean house and I could tell the pups missed her as soon as she left. The peace of mind she gave me while I was on vacation is priceless.

We used the pet au pair for our dogs when we went on vacation this summer and they were amazing !! Our dogs are spoiled brats :) and for them to be able to stay in their house rather than be put in an unfamiliar kennel was very nice. They were happy and treated with the same level of spoiled they're used to :). We got to go on our beach vacation without worrying about them and we will absolutely use the pet au pair again.

About

We provide daily dog walks, pet sitting, pet taxi service, house sitting, home security checks, and more. We treat your pets and home like our own!

About

I have been around dogs my entire life, and I have a very good understanding of dogs and their behavior. But more importantly, I love them and enjoy being and working with them. I have had a neighborhood dog service called Dogtopia, and many of my neighbors and friends have utilized my dog sitting, dog walking, and dog grooming services. I have also interned at Dogma in Carytown. I live in the city and have a fueled vehicle as well. I am available on evenings, weekends and anytime during the summer. Although I am a recent high school student, my maturity, practical experience, and eagerness with caring for dogs and animals will make me an excellent pet sitter. If you want to interview me, you can call me!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

  • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
  • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
    • 45-minute visit: $28.
    • 60-minute visit: $32.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
    • 12 hours: $100.
    • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
