Tony and crew did a wonderful job! We had a gaping hole in the ceiling from the attic where my husband stepped through (not nearly as funny as it sounds). Insulation was falling from the ceiling! I used Thumbtack as soon as it happened. Tony responded quickly. 5 days later the ceiling was clean and new. Just like it never happened. While he was here, we had our dining room painted. All work done within a few days. The painter and finishing crew were skilled, polite and neat. Tony was excellent about communicating with me via text message. Nice job. I would definitely hire him again.

The ladies worked hard the entire time here, and stayed long enough to get everything cleaned very well. The were professional and unobtrusive, so I could work while they were here. There was something I feel is important to mention. After they left, I went into my bedroom to get something and noticed a $50 bill on my night stand. They apparently found it when cleaning and left it for me. I had no idea it was in the room and they could have easily just slipped it into their pocket and no one would have known. That kind of honesty is hard to find these days and I greatly appreciated it.

I had water damage to subflooring from door leaks. We needed the entire subfloor in the laundry room and a piece about 8' x 24" in our Family Room replaced, with Durock in the laundry so I could lay tile later. The laundry room had linoleum but the family room has 3/4" hardwood. I had enough leftover wood to replace what had to be torn out to get to the subfloor, so the crew did that as well. I was impressed by the quality of the work and the pride in workmanship. They determined the cause of the water leaks after removing the door casement in the laundry room which revealed that the wood under the door threshold was completely saturated with water and had been finding an outlet into the subfloor because it had not been properly wrapped with waterproofing material during construction. Although there was plastic wrapping under the wood, it only covered about 1/2 of the side exposed to the exterior of the house siding, which allowed water leaking in from the top to run down between the plastic and the wood- effectively trapping it there every time it rained. The crew fixed that by wrapping the new wood they put down correctly. There were a number of things like the above that occurred as the dug into the damage that had been done, but I feel confident that they removed everything that had been exposed to moisture and replaced it, but stuck to their quoted estimate for the job. Don't know if we should name our crew online, but ours deserves to be singled out. They worked until 9PM the first night and were back the next day to complete the job by the end of the afternoon. We'll certainly use them again the next time we need a help with a project. Jericho Croft Farm

Mr. Boiko did an outstanding job painting a bedroom in our townhouse rental were a tenant was moving out and a new one coming in. I even received a call from his office that he would be running 5 minutes late! He was coming from Williamsburg to Richmond in morning traffic so to even be that close to the 8am job time was incredible. His painting was meticulous and his price was almost too reasonable. Painting is not his main talent even. He does almost everything as I saw pictures of his work from tiling (amazing), to wood floors, decks, remodels, etc. I will hire Mr. Boiko in a heartbeat for any job I need next. He lives in Williamsburg but services from Richmond to Virginia Beach.

One Stop Renovation is the way to go. I would recommend Nilson and his team. We interviewed three contractors. All three were sound businesses and good initial meetings, however Nilson provided a competitive bid and we meshed well with his and his partner. One Stop Renovations and his subcontractors completed a remodel of our kitchen, two bathrooms, flooring and painting within 40 days. They were flexible to some changes we made to fixtures selections. I would recommend them to anyone. The following comments are things that I think made our process smothering. - we hauled debris to help offset costs - we checked in most every day to see progress - the house is near a home improvement store for those last minute needs - we handled material costs

Over the years, we have hired many different painters -- from small business owners to large professional companies. I can unequivocally state that Peacock Nationwide Painting Contractors and Paul Hill are the best we've ever used. From the first contact, Mr. Hill was professional, knowledgeable, friendly, and interested in showcasing his work. He worked with us on the contract price so that it fit our budget without compromising his own standards and without cutting corners. Additionally, the job was performed and completed in a timely manner and on schedule. Most importantly, the work that he did was outstanding both in quality and in appearance. He and those with whom he works truly consider their painting a trade, not simply a job, and it shows. Perfection and attention to detail are of utmost importance to Mr. Hill, and this is reflected in the finished product. I'm thrilled with the job that was done, and must say that I've now found my "go to" painter for future jobs!

I hired Mr. Todd to paint my master bedroom and two small rooms to include ceiling and trim. I was beyond impressed with his meticulous work and attention to detail. He knocked out all three rooms in two days. I don’t think he took a break..lol I have already discussed him painting the other rooms in the house. I definitely recommend Mr. Todd for your painting needs.

Two days before closing on the sale of my house the buyer's loan agent demanded wood be repaired in the crawl space, and it was not a simple repair. Jason made room in his schedule for me, got the work done quickly and very well, and we closed the next day. He was so helpful, did a great job, and I will call him for anything I need done in my new house.

Baron worked with me to add a 5x10 laundry room and a 14 x 20 sunroom to my very small cape cod house. We love both rooms and they have made our lives so much easier. As a homeowner who likes to be involved in the project, Baron was willing to let me elbow into the project and put a hammer in my hand to work along side. He gently corrected my mistakes and taught me new tricks of the trade.

We asked for face painting and balloon twisting . They arrived with a small team who quickly started mapping balloons for my guests. They made balloons that the kids could wear , swards, flowers, hats and balloons that lit up! The face painter was also vary talented and had a large variety for the kids to pick from. They arrived early, and stayed late! The children all loved them and didn't want then to leave! Great choice I will book them again. Thank you Thumbtack!

Randy was great to work with. The man certainly stays busy working a handful of jobs but he was definitely certain to make sure that everything was done correctly and up to his standard. I had a living room and dining room to be painted. He made sure everything was prepped on the walls to the best standard and he did one heck of a job painting everywhere in the place. He did a fantastic job and I will certainly use him again. He just finished today and while showcasing his work I had someone ask to use him because they liked the job he did.

I got an estimate from Nick and he was very nice, professional and prompt in responding to give an estimate. I was impressed by Nick and one other contractor. The final decision came down to simple schedule accommodations at the time. I did not have very much flexibility.

After years of wanting my kitchen remolded, I've searched high and low for an affordable company with quality work. That is exactly what I got from this company. The team was professional and respectful, listening to my every concern/need. My countertops, wall paintings, and floor layout came out exactly how I imagined with little to no time at all. The crew left my house feeling more like a home. Will definitely hire/recommend this company should I need any work done. Thanks again!

We thought David was great. He was very meticulous and did a great job. He always double checked everything to make sure that the walls looked great, cleaned up everything before the end of the day, and was always on time. We would definitely hire him again for any future painting that needed to be done.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

    How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

    • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
    • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
    • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
    • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
    • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
    • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
