Sabrina did an absolutely wonderful job editing a complicated 220 page technical guide for us on a very tight deadline. Communication was smooth, her edits were great, and we were able to get the guide to the printer in time for a major event. I highly recommend working with Sabrina!

Tom has been outstanding to work with. He is patient, flexible and takes the time needed to produce a quality product. His mastery out the English language and inserting key words necessary to accentuate properly the experience in my resume took it from what I thought was a very good resume to an outstanding resume. Tom took the time to go line for line, word for word meeting in person to develop the updated enhancements to my federal resume. Highly recommend Tom to anyone looking for such assistance.

Amenah has been an indispensable component of some of my best work throughout my bachelor and masters degrees. Even if the subject matter is obscure, she is able to quickly understand the point I was trying to get across and help me find the most strategic, well-organized pathway to get my point across to the reader. Importantly, she takes into consideration the audience you are writing for (whether academic, journalistic, grant agencies, etc.), helping you tailor the form and delivery of your writing. Amenah is not only a skilled grammatical editor. She is able to work with my style of writing, not against it, making me a better writer with each project she assists on. Her personable nature and common sense way of talking me through even the most complex subject matter helps me organize my thoughts and arguments, making any writing task seem far less daunting. I would HIGHLY recommend working with Amenah.

I had the opportunity of working with Kevin. I have found his reviews and remarks to be thought provoking. Often as we write, we do not place ourselves in the shoes of the readers. Kevin considers the tone and platform of the writer as well as the reader and makes his recommendations on how the writer can improve their work. I would call him the antibiotic of editing. He works his way through the literature and diagnose those issues and prescribe a remedy to correct the issues. I would highly recommend him. Thanks Dr. Raymond Holmes, GCDF

Stacia did a superb job for me, crafting a letter regarding a very delicate situation. I'm a writer - a professional writer, but I knew that my emotions would negatively impact any attempt to communicate to the said party. I hired IHTMFYW. In 24 hours, I had a well-crafted, honest and insightfully-written letter that captured the key elements I wanted to highlight while maintaining a compassionate undertone. I highly recommend this service to anyone who is seeking "just the right words" for situations that need it most.

I worked with Ruby closely to design and input content into a full meetings website, which was viewed by thousands of valuable members. The process included content organization, design layout and structure, as well as integrating several forms and user functionality, and mobile compatibility. Ruby was extremely easy to work with and very good at communicating throughout the process. I highly recommend her.

        About

I am a creative writer in a day and age where many people have lost the ability to write concisely, with innovation and technicality, with proper grammar that doesn't seem like a abbreviation-filled text message, or a tweet where the character count is more important than the message. I pride myself on being able to express a idea, relay a message with creativity, originality and erudition. I love writing stories, but don't at all mind the monotonous stability and consistency of technical writing; a combination which in itself is unusual, but fortuitous when it comes to almost any job.

        About

Reach out to me for an impeccable editing experience! I have extensive writing, editing and proof reading experience. I meet deadlines consistently, no matter how hard the job.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you hire a good grant writer?

Grants are available to nonprofit organizations, for-profit businesses that qualify for government grants, and individuals who qualify for foundation or government grants. Hiring a good grant writer can help you gain funding in your chosen field. According to the American Grant Writers’ Association, grant writers can help you research potential grant opportunities; write grant proposals, create budgets, and build budget narratives; review written materials before you submit; prepare a business plan; analyze your organization for grant competitive qualities; prepare research grants; help with 501(c)(3) applications for nonprofits; and more. Investing in the right grant writer could result in a financial win for your organization. Generally no licenses or certificates are required to be a good grant writer, but you may want to find a grant writer who has been certified (not just received a certificate of completion) by a reputable organization such as the Grant Professionals Certification Institute. Qualities to look for in a good grant writer include:

        • Proven success writing winning grants, especially in your target area.
        • Strong writing skills.
        • Strong math skills and demonstrated proficiency with budgeting.
        • Careful attention to detail — brilliant grant proposals may be rejected just for formatting errors, so you want someone who follows instructions explicitly.
        • Expertise in your target area.
        • Punctuality and good communication skills.

How much does a grant writer cost?

Hiring a grant writer can give you a competitive edge when applying for financial grants for your business or nonprofit organization, or as an individual. The cost to hire a grant writer can vary depending on their academic background, areas of expertise, previous grant writing success and years of experience. According to the Grant Professionals Association, grant writers should be paid hourly or by flat fee. It is unethical for a grant writer to accept a commission or percentage compensation of grant monies received. They can, however, be awarded bonuses in line with the hiring company’s prevailing practices. Here are some examples of average grant writing fees:

        • Hourly rate for grant writers with less experience or fewer grants awarded: $25-$35 per hour.
        • Hourly rate for grant writers with some degree of success: $35-$75 per hour.
        • Hourly rate for grant writers with proven success winning large grants: $75-$150 or more per hour.
        • For a smaller grant, the writer may charge a flat fee of $200-$500 for preparation and submission.

Pricing may also vary based on the complexity of the grant application. A federal grant that requires pages of research, budgets and a business plan may take more than 30 hours to prepare. For a high-level grant writer who charges $100 per hour, this means $3,000 or more in grant writing fees.

Most grant writers will provide you with a total cost estimate before agreeing to the work. You may be required to pay a deposit up front, or the grant writer may work from a retainer. Often, seasoned grant writers pay for themselves in the long run by writing successful grants.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
