"I've received numerous massages from James. I appreciate his professionalism as he's always sure to ask about my problem area's (injuries, muscle aches, etc.), and he focuses on them throughout the massage process. He's a great massage therapist and emanates a true passion for the profession. He's also very punctual if you're needing to schedule a massage between other activities. Honestly speaking, when the sessions are finished, it is always too soon! I walk away feeling relaxed, and refreshed, my body always feels rejuvenated. I am definitely in! He does an excellent job. "Kelly has got to be one of the best massage therapists I’ve been to and I’ve seen A LOT. I like to consider myself as a very “complicated” customer because I have all types of aches and pains all over because of my bad posture, work life/load, and stress. Some of which led me to believe that something was really wrong with me. Kelly was very eager to know everything about me to help with my massage and my special needs. In turn, I had one of the best massages ever. Kelly knows how to do a technique called “cupping” and man did that really help. Kelly is definitely an A+ massage therapist and such a sweetheart as well. Before hiring her, I was reading her reviews and I stumbled across one customer that gave her 3 stars. I don’t know what they were thinking but the massage was excellent. Definitely get a massage from her and you will see just how great she is. Thank you so much Kelly! I’ll be seeing you again soon =)"

"I was looking for a massage therapist that could assist with mobility and stretching. I'm an active person with no true complaints, but had areas of tension and decreased flexibility when playing sports. Faith helped loosen these areas and I already feel as if I have a greater range of motion from just one session. Her technique was spot-on, she adjusted her pressure to my preferences (firm) and she loosened up some areas of tension that other massage therapists have missed in the past. I am so happy about our session that I increased our appointment from 60 minutes to 90 minutes today and have already scheduled regular visits with her. "

"Michael is incredible. I scheduled an appointment with him as a surprise birthday gift for my husband and he showed up early for the appointment, was very social and took the time to make a lasting impression on both myself and my husband. He's extremely professional and knowledgeable about massage therapy which made the experience that much more enjoyable. If you're looking for a relaxing massage therapist, look no further. We can't wait to schedule more appointments with Michael in the future."

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is Thai massage?

Thai massage, also called Thai yoga massage, combines acupressure and assisted yoga postures. Thai massage is based on the flow of energy through the body and focuses on energy lines called “sen.” It doesn’t use oils or lotions and, instead of rubbing muscles, the massage therapist compresses, pulls, stretches and rocks the recipient’s body to promote the flow of energy through these sen. In this form of massage therapy, practitioners use their hands, knees, legs and feet to apply deep muscle compression and stretch the body. It’s often performed on a mat on the floor instead of on a massage table. Like most forms of massage, Thai massage is used to relieve stress, improve range of motion and enhance flexibility. Some people also use Thai massage to address a range of health issues, including:

  • Relieving tension headaches
  • Decreasing back pain
  • Reducing joint stiffness and pain
  • Stimulating circulation and lymphatic drainage
  • Boosting energy

Because a traditional Thai massage session covers all of the muscles in your body, it typically lasts 90 minutes to 120 minutes.

How much do you tip a massage therapist?

All forms of massage therapy, from Thai massage to Swedish massage to deep tissue massage, are similar to other spa or hospitality services. So it’s appropriate to tip a massage therapist the standard hospitality rate of 15 percent to 20 percent of the cost of the session. For example, the national average cost for a deep tissue massage is $70-$90, so expect to tip $12-$18. Of course, you can always tip more or less depending on your experience, especially if you’ve opted for extra services. For example, expect to tip more for a couple’s hot stone massage session that includes aromatherapy. Also, if you’re paying with a gift certificate or coupon, or purchasing a discounted multi-session package, make sure to calculate your tip based on the full price of the massage.
