This was an amazing experience! Attention to detail was flawless and their willingness to perform additional functions without a stressful haggling of cost helped make my renovations far less stressful. The value received far out weighed any compensation paid. AOK Painters has certainly turned my fixer upper into a home I can be proud of... Thank you Kory and Richard! Jay M.

Mike and Bobby were really awesome. They arrived on time despite the weather and took care of some touch up work in my bathroom which turned into more work needing to be done than i initially thought (my fault) but they were so kind about it and took care of everything right away. We also needed some trim work done, some brackets mounted to the bar area and some touch up paint work in the kitchen. Mind you, mike was hired to do ONLY the guest bathroom. But when we mentioned the other things needing to be done and how we were getting someone to try to come out soon to do it, he immediately offered to do EVERYTHING in the same day! He had to make a few trips to town to get some materials, and some places were closed so it would turn into a waste of a trip for him, but he didnt seem bothered at all about it. It was a lot of work, 5 hours of nonstop working and stuck in a house with 2 females who wouldnt stop asking questions and he was as polite and attentive as ever. He and Bobby fixed all our issues and we liked then so much we went ahead and had him come up with 4 separate quotes to do cabinet painting, painting all the trim thoughout the house, replacing light switches and the base plates, and painting all the vents throughout the house. He is also due back Monday to paint the trim under the bar area and finish up the touch up work. I would reccomend him to anyone, infact we made sure to get cards from him so we could refer him to friends and family. Ontop of that my mother plans to hire him in the near future to have her parents house and shed worked on.

Working with Patrick is a wonderful experience and a team effort. He has done two projects for me and the workmanship is exemplary. Foremost though he listens, thinks carefully about what his client is trying to accomplish and then offers suggestions but does not force his ideas. I needed my old, grungy, wood kitchen cabinets painted and he explained exactly what he was going to do, and gave me a fair estimate based on other estimates I had received. The cabinets are great; he is an extraordinary painter and unbelievably meticulous. During the time Patrick was working on the cabinets I decided that I wanted cornices for the living room and dining room. I sketched out my ideas, changed my mind several times, and explained to Patrick what I wanted; they are beautiful. Patrick is knowledgeable and a skilled craftsman – you couldn’t hope for a better person to do your projects.

Sunshine and her team do Great work! They completly turned my space around from a project done wrong by some terrible “painters” I hired and fired. To beyond my imagination, their work is truly exceptional. Sunshine is more expensive than her competitors however her work does justify some of that cost. I will also add Sunshine was willing to work with me on pricing. If I had a con, it would have to be that I didn’t get a contract upfront before the work started, which in itself wasn’t a big deal. But, later the second day on the job I realized she wasn’t planning on doing my crown molding which desperately needed attention after the previous painters splashed paint all over them. This ended up being a upcharge to get done. All in all, great company, great work.

Skip is incredibly detailed when he paints and he knows exactly what type of paint is best suited for each type of job. (There are so many types and it’s easy to be overwhelmed with choices and durability options of paint as a homeowner. Skip gave great advice on what to choose for each job and I picked the colors) Skip also spends a lot of time prepping the painting surface and preparing for the job, which other painters I’ve used in the past did not do. This led to shoddy jobs from other painters that Skip had to fix. I’ve hired less expensive painters in the past, but have always regretted it. You get what you pay for. With painting, prepping the surface is the key to a beautiful paint finish. Skip does fantastic prep and finish work. I’m happy to pay a higher amount when the job is done professionally and will last longer. His work product is miles better than painters you will find on Craigslist when trying to save a dollar. He does high quality work and I highly recommend him for your projects. I’ve been incredibly happy with his services. I will continue to hire Skip in the future!

Lenny was referred to me by a friend. Immediately he came out to give me a quote which was definitely fair. I had to quotes prior and his was in the same ballpark just a little less. He was extremely communicative. I never had to wonder when he was coming, he kept me in the loop of his plans at all times. He did a fantastic job. I’m so happy to come home! I have a cleaning business and many times have been asked for referrals for different things, he will be the painter I suggest to my clients. ~Kimi Jean

Had a wonderful experience with this painter. I wanted my bathroom mirror recessed into the wall and he took the time to accomplish this. After he got through painting and doing the necessary work my bathroom was very beautiful. This gentleman was polite, clean and thurough. When I asked him to recess the mirror he called a friend and got advice and apparently he followed it. I have never experienced that before, when someone said wait let call someone and get advice.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

    • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
    • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
    • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
    • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
    • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
    • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
