Introduction: I have been teaching percussion for 7 years, and recently have found a passion for teaching general music to kids in Woodbridge. I hold a Bachelors in Music from the Osaka College of Music in Japan, a Master's Degree in Percussion Performance at University of Kansas, and a Doctoral Degree in Percussion Performance at George Mason University. My specialty is percussion and piano.
I enjoy teaching music lessons. My little students in group class have been learning solfege (Do Re Mi etc) with simple hand-signs, rhythms, pitches, singing, desk bells, and piano. I offer themed classes as much as I can such as Halloween and Frozen class. Parents can wait comfortably and watch the lesson. My goal in this group lesson is make kids enjoy music (basics) naturally through physical movements and the senses. Group lesson tuition is reasonable.

My daughter and son attended Ms. Chikami music class and we had a blast… She was so professional, kid friendly, and the kids enjoyed the music she was teaching… In addition to that she is very knowledgeable about music and I would recommend any parent looking for their kids to learn the early fundamentals of music to sign them up for this class… My four year old and 18 month year old will be back.. She is truly amazing and smiles the whole time ;)

I have been participating her music class with my 5 yrs old girl, Dr. Kanako is always working hard to make her students to be interesting in music in a fun way, specifically, play their favorite song, attempt to interact with each student, and make sure everyone are on the same page so they don't feel to be left behind. My girl loves being in her class and learning the foundation of music with her wonderful peer in a FUN way. Enjoying is the key to learn something effectively so here is Dr. Kanako’s class! I highly recommend her class!

Dr. Kanako is AMAZING!! My three-year old has been going to her class for a few months, and I can see her including things she’s learned in her every day life. Dr. Kanako is clearly knowledgeable on music and has a passion for teaching young kids. She makes learning fun, is welcoming and friendly towards the kids, and uses concepts that are on their level. She even does themed classes like dress-up and holiday parties! I recommend this class to anyone with young kids looking to expand their ideas of rhythm and basic musical structure.
