Troy and his crew were excellent from start to finish on every level. We hired them for exterior cleaning, but should have had them do interior too. We highly recommend Clear Skies Window cleaning to everyone

My wife and I could not possibly be more delighted with the service that Jewlie/Heart Strings Petsitting provides. We know that when we leave our cat in her care that our pet is receiving the most loving attention. Jewlie has always been responsive to our inquiries and I fully feel comfortable giving her access to my home while we’re away. I’ve used Jewlie’s services for the last 10 years, with two different cats. I would recommend her wholeheartedly to anyone who enjoys receiving superlative service.

We needed a petsitter to stay with our dogs and cat for a long weekend and Ann was recommended by another sitter. She responded quickly to my email. We were able to meet the next week and we hired her. She took wonderful care of our pets and we appreciated the daily updates with photos. I wouldn't hesitate to hire her again.

Laura is extremely professional, very responsive, kind and loving to the animals she is caring for and most of all trustworthy. Laura ensured that she completely understood what was to be required to take care of my pet and did exactly what was requested. It was very comforting to know that my pet was being cared for exactly as needed while I was away. It was a pleasure to work with Laura and to get to know her. I would definitely recommend Laura as a Pet Sitter/Caretaker.

Marie and Whitney are amazing. They're so kind to my dog and exceedingly responsible. I never doubt they will take good care of Bode or had any misgivings about giving them a key to my home. A++

I started training with Jessica in December (2014) and I am crazy about her! I have never had good luck with personal trainers, they never seemed to sincerely care about me and my success. But Jessica is truly one of a kind. She is excited about the workout, and that is contagious! She modifies the workout based on my capabilities and never ever makes me feel bad or like a failure for needing the modifications. She sets the bar extremely high, expects you to clear it and encourages you the entire time. I find myself wanting to work harder and push myself harder just to make her proud! She is the best, you won't be sorry when you sign up with her.

I first met Matt when he was training at Downtown Dog Lounge in Seattle. He's a flat-out awesome dog trainer who shows genuine love (sometimes tough love) and care with each pooch he works with. Our Puggle Little Bear loved hanging with him at daycare, and eventually we had Matt housesit for us to watch Little Bear and routine dog walks while we lived in Seattle. I have never trusted anyone with Little Bear more than Matt—he's fantastic!

I always rest easy knowing that my beloved pet is being given such great care by Shelby while I am away from home traveling for work. She always texts the cutest picture updates which make me smile ( or sometimes laugh if they show my overly affectionate dog is trying to lick her face, LOL ). My pooch clearly adores Shelby, and it is so great having someone that you trust and who you know will give your pet amazing care while you are away from home.

Melody recently watched my two cats and she was amazing! We hadn’t been able to go on vacation since my cat was diagnosed with diabetes two years ago, and Melody went above and beyond all expectations. She took excellent care of both kitties and gave daily insulin injections to my diabetic cat. She sent many pictures throughout my trip and my pets loved her! I highly recommend hiring melody for pet sitting and I will definitely be going to her every time we will be out of town.

Heather and Katie were wonderful! They took great care of my pup, sent several updates throughout the day so I knew he was being very well taken care of. He had the best time, going on lots of walks and playing fetch. I appreciated that they treated my pup as if he were their dog. I will absolutely continue to use Puget Paws in the future.

While visiting “Paddywhack” pet store I stumbled upon a business card for Nanny Dolittle. I’d been looking for a pet-sitter or someone who can drop in on a long work day and tend to my pack. Some time went by and we adopted a fourth rescue dog. Adjustment periods for the dogs can take some time and extra tending to, so I decided to call the Nanny. We met, reviewed each dog in depth, my expectations for her visits, their expectations and then we created a visitation schedule on the spot. She left with a key to our home and has been coming regularly for over a year. Nanny Dolittle provides loving care to my dogs that desire it most and endless ball throwing for the other two. She knows exactly what each one needs and intuitively reads them when she visits. I know this because she leaves a note at the end of her visit that describes her stay and interactions with them. What she writes is exactly what we would have done for them had we been home. In addition, we notice the difference in their energy, happiness and general well-being on the days the Nanny has visited. She is reliable, flexible, trustworthy, accommodating, gentle, caring and provides exactly what she promises. We feel lucky to have her in our pack and the dogs are always excited when we leave for work with the parting words, “The Nanny will be visiting with you today, just rest until her arrival.” Rachael Millikan Beyond Barking Animal Communication www.beyondbarking.com

Tonya is pretty quick in responsiveness. I really appreciate that quality in person / business. I wasn't exactly clear or prompt with my specific needs and reply's. But she very kind and patient with me. As soon as my moms dog us groomed I will be back to review on the work Shaggy Shack will be doing.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is included in a dog grooming?

Dog grooming is so much more than giving your dog a bath. Dog grooming is a broad term that covers all aspects of canine cleanliness and hygiene. The services included in dog grooming will vary based on your needs and what you choose to pay. Unless they are rolling in cowpies or playing in mud puddles, most dogs are okay getting a shampoo bath only as needed. You’ll know when they need it if they smell bad or are bringing dirt into the house. Some dogs, like shepherds and shih tzus, have thick coats that can get matted and tangled without regular care. Pro dog groomers can deftly blow dry a dog’s hair after a bath so that it is shiny and smooth. Dog grooming can include brushing that detangles dog hair and also thins the undercoat to minimize shedding.

Dog grooming also includes hygiene services such as toothbrushing and ear cleaning. Clean teeth are important to the health of your dog, and the pros have the patience and proper technique to get it done. Regular dog grooming can stave off tear stains, those reddish stains below your dog’s eyes. Anal gland expression is something not many people want to do on their own, even if they love their dog. A dog groomer can safely and efficiently release any blocked anal gland fluid. Other dog grooming services include nail trimming and clipping. Nationally, dog grooming prices range from $60 to $80. Most dog groomers offer discounts to customers who purchase monthly packages or bundle multiple grooming services at one time.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

  • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
  • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
  • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
  • What are your different walk routes?
  • When will you pick up and drop off?
  • How will we communicate?
  • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
  • What’s your cancellation policy?
  • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
  • How and how often do I pay you?
  • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

What is a dog groomer?

A dog groomer is a service professional who provides dog grooming and basic hygiene care for your dog. Dog groomers are typically animal lovers who are competent and comfortable working with a wide range of dog breeds and temperaments. Dog groomers are knowledgeable about the care needs for different kinds of dog coats. A poodle will have different haircut needs than a shih tzu, for example, so it pays to have a trained pro provide the proper cut. Good dog groomers know how to safely clean your dog’s teeth, bathe your dog, and cut their nails without going too short. They understand how to trim the hair from around your dog’s face, express anal glands, and clean your dog’s ears. Many people who choose dog grooming as a profession also pursue other dog services such as attending veterinary school, running a doggy day care center, working as a professional dog walker, and more.

What is a dog groomer?

Keep your family dogs happy, healthy and clean with regular dog grooming. A dog groomer is a business owner or employee of a dog grooming business who specializes in dog hygiene and grooming. To find a reputable dog groomer, research reviews, ask for references and confirm that the groomer has good standing in the dog grooming community.

A dog groomer should be comfortable and competent working with dogs of all breeds and temperaments. Typically a groomer will have trained with other groomers and taken educational courses to keep abreast of the latest safety information and techniques. There are brick-and-mortar dog grooming businesses, as well as mobile dog groomers who bring all their equipment and provide their services at your home or location. In some cases, brick-and-mortar businesses will also pick up and return your dog for an additional fee.

What vaccines do dogs need to be groomed?

It’s important to make sure your dog is up to date on its vaccines before taking it to a groomer. Vaccinations keep your dog and the other dogs that use the establishment healthy. Viruses can linger long after a dog is gone, so an unvaccinated dog can infect a number of other dogs days or even months after their visit. Find out about your dog groomer’s vaccination policies, and think carefully about receiving services from a company that does not require vaccinations. Here are the main vaccinations that are generally required for dog grooming:

  • Parvovirus: Parvo is a nasty virus that can kill dogs within 48-72 hours of infection. The virus is incredibly persistent and, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association, is resistant to heat, cold, humidity and drying. It’s spread by dog-to-dog contact or contact with contaminated feces, environments (food and water bowls, collars and leashes, etc.,) or people.
  • Adenovirus 2: Dogs receive this vaccination to protect against canine infectious hepatitis. The vaccination can also helps prevent canine cough.
  • Canine distemper virus: Distemper has no known cure and can cause serious pain, illness, and even death, although recovery is possible with medical intervention.
  • Rabies: This disease attacks the central nervous system and — when untreated — will
  • lead to death. The CDC recommends euthanizing an unvaccinated animal that has been exposed to rabies, although six-month isolation followed by vaccination is also permissible.
  • Para-influenza: Canine para-influenza leads to kennel cough and an unhappy dog.
