My favorite thing is that Maddy works with me on specific goals and fun songs to work toward what I enjoy and hope to do with singing. I always feel like I learn a lot at each lesson and look forward to meeting with her each week.Jul 14, 2017Verified
My biggest concern was the irrational terror I felt “singing” or making singing noises in front of another human being. The days before my appointment were some of the most terrifying of my life. I’ve been a lot of places and done a lot of things that I’d think would’ve hardened me to such a mundane activity. A few minutes into my first lesson (free!), I felt all my stupid concerns and fears unraveling...and by the end (who knew 30 minutes could fly by so fast)....I was tempted to ask if the first paid lesson could start right now. Maddy is excellent at this. She made me feel at ease (and I am not an at ease person) and kept moving things along without showing a bit of impatience or judgement or lack of attention.Sep 4, 2019Verified
Singing Lessons (for adults)
Started taking singing lessons with Maddy as a complete beginner. She's been so kind, patient, and supportive and is wonderful about explaining how the voice works. I highly recommend her!!Oct 21, 2015Verified
I am so humbled and grateful for Maddy. I love to sing and can now confidently say my dream is to perform. Maddy made that possible. Last May, after a workplace karaoke event, I decided to Google search for vocal instructors because I got word from a man I didn't know that "I should find a way to do this." By that he meant sing. I connected with Maddy through Thumbtack that same night. I was nervous for that first meeting because I didn't know how my talent would stack up. Before Maddy I had very little experience performing and only really started to understand my voice a few years earlier when auditioning for a law school talent show. Maddy's kindness, patience, and professionalism made it easy, instantly, for me to connect with her and trust her. We just hit it off right away. From then on I felt comfortable sharing my voice, songwriting, and artistry with her because I know that Maddy genuinely wants to help me become a trust artist. She has created a space for me to express myself while developing my artistry through proper technique. She has done so much for my confidence and continues to help me build it out. Maddy and I meet once a week for an hour over Skype or Facetime. Generally, we work on two of the three for each lesson: singing, songwriting, or guitar. But, in the new year we are going to begin a study on music theory and Maddy plans on introducing me to music production software so that I can put music to the songs I have written. Maddy has a plan for every lesson, but she is completely adaptable; focusing in on what I want to hit for that lesson. To date, we have worked on five songs: Let It Go (from Frozen), Wake Me Up (by Aloe Blacc), Bleeding Love (by Leona Lewis), Fighter (by Christina Aguilera), and Dude (Looks Like a Lady) (by Aerosmith). Without Maddy I never would have imagined that I could sing a Christina Aguilera or Steven Tyler song. Maddy's ability to pull the best out of my voice is nothing short of incredible. Pair that with her belief in me and Maddy has given me the greatest gift: confidence in my artistry. I have also written north of 10 original songs. Maddy has reviewed every song and provided substantive feedback so that I communicate the message and sentiment I envisioned in the most effective way possible. Maddy and I are also working on guitar. Maddy uses materials on Dropbox to teach me basic notes and chords and completes each guitar lesson with demonstrations and material to practice. I am so grateful Maddy and I have crossed paths. It's been a life-changing experience in the best possible way. Not to mention, Maddy is an incredibly talented musician in her own right. She has a beautiful voice and is straight up vicious on the guitar. Her knowledge, ear, and artistry inspire me. I can't wait to see where Maddy takes me in this journey. For now though, I am so thankful we are on it. I can't recommend Maddy highly enough.Dec 29, 2018

- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)? Each lesson is 30 minutes, unless an hour lesson is desired. You can do pay as you go, (which is week by week payments,) or month by month payments. The payments can be made through Paypal, Venmo, Square Cash, and Google Wallet. The cancellation policy is just 24 hour notice, and I will do a make up lesson, a refund or let the money you already paid or roll it over into next months pay.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?I do each lesson according to the students goals and aspirations in music. Every lesson is individualized according to the students level, taste in music and ultimate goals. During the lesson we will work on laying the ground work for the fundamentals of music and creating a lessons plan to get you at your goals as fast as possible.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I began formal music lessons when I was 7 learning guitar and voice, and expanded my skill to ukulele, piano, and mandolin. I studied music and music theory all throughout high school and I majored in music at Brigham Young University. I have studied various vocal, guitar and songwriting styles ranging from pop, rock, r&b classical and jazz. I had an emphasis in my college major in the mechanics of heathy vocal production, and vocal performance. I also have experience in professional songwriting, music business, and performance psychology (which is the study of overcoming stage fright, and music therapy.) In addition I have studied multiple instruments with an emphasis in lead guitar.
