Chef Jorge at Mon Chef recently catered an event our foundation hosted at the Portland Art Museum's Whitsell Auditorium. We had approximately 40-50 guests in attendance and the food was served in an elegant buffet setting with a beautiful floral centerpiece. The appetizer offerings were unique, locally inspired, and incredibly delicious. Our guests raved about the hors d'oeuvres. Jorge is a fastidious planner and kept us informed with detailed information about the menu, costs, and site logistics as the event neared. His professionalism and thoroughness allowed me to focus completely on other elements of the event and I did not have to worry about the food service. It was phenomenal! He arrived exactly when he said he would and went right to work. He did a dinner for 7 for a family birthday. I had the best halibut I've ever had (I'm 66 and love halibut), I could have eaten a mixing bowl of the salad, and the dessert was divine. I wanted to lick the plates. He served us each course, cleaned up everything, and was extremely professional. It was an extremely enjoyable experience for all of us. We will definitely use Chef Jorge again.Jul 24, 2018Verified
Our non-profit had 2 wonderful events with Mon Chef! We had a farm to table lunch at our farm, and he cooked on the spot with all of the available vegetables and made very delicious 5 course meal: Kale chips, Corn soup, Caprese salad, Squash risotto, and 3 Sorbets from our cantaloupe, honeydew, and watermelons. EVERYONE that participated was blown away at his talent and taste of the foods. The event went so well, we invited Mon Chef to replicate the same lunch for our staff to partake and enjoy. Mon Chef is very professional, has fantastic presentation, and created an ambiance that was unique and special. I recommend his services to any event, private party, or individual. - What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?Proposals are determined on a case by case basis.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?New customers are generally handled first with a phone call to get a general idea of what type of event there are wanting to book, and what kind of food they would like to serve, dislikes/like, allergies, etc. Depending on the situation a site tour is often necessary to get a better idea of any potential logistical challenges that may needed to be dealt with ahead of time. Afterwards a proposal is submitted based on the previous phone call. Any changes can happen after review of the proposal if necessary, and once a final proposal is accepted the customer pays a deposit and the event is booked.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I received a culinary degree from the New England Culinary Institute and have over 20 years experience as a professional chef.
