Janet is extremely professional and warm. Voice lessons can be very personal, and Janet achieves the balance between guidance and connecting with you as a person and a musician. I had been singing for about ten years when I worked with her, and was looking to improve on my technique, so finding a voice teacher who could teach adults with experience was imperative to me. I enjoyed my lessons with her and continue to use several of the warm-ups and vocal drills that I learned while working with her.
I’ve been studying guitar with Mary for about two months now, and I can’t say enough good about her. tl;dr: Mary will understand and support your goals for guitar playing, and she is beyond capable of helping you reach those goals. First, Mary is very supportive and cognizant of my goals as a musician. If I had a song in mind that I wanted to learn, I’m absolutely sure she would help me learn it. As a beginner, however, I don’t have anything in mind and happily play the tunes she gives me. Speaking of tunes, she has so many on hand. Every week she gives me new sheets with songs that cover the technique we work on. Mary’s extensive lesson repertoire certainly helps fulfill my goal of expanding my musical vocabulary to more artists and genres, all while developing my skills on guitar. Similar to her supportiveness, Mary is also very understanding yet insistent. As a busy young adult, on average I work eight to ten hours a day and follow a daily workout regimen to boot. While my goal is to practice guitar at least 60 minutes per day, on many days I don’t have time and fall short. Despite less-than-ideal practice, Mary accommodatingly works around the progress I make (or don’t make). At each lesson I can consistently expect help with last week’s trouble areas in addition to new material — Mary sure likes to press on. Can you blame her? There’s technique to master and songs to learn! :) On her teaching style, Mary is very creative. She customizes her lessons to the individual, and — I really like this about her — she tells me exactly what she wants to cover at the next two or three lessons. This way I know what she’ll teach, and I have the opportunity to discuss what I want to learn (e.g. scales, barre chords, etc.). With decades of guitar study under her belt, she can teach anything. By “teach” I mean make you really understand. She has countless analogies, anecdotes, and demonstrations for helping you learn or improve any technique. She’ll try things until it “clicks” for you. Teaching creativity like Mary’s is an invaluable skill that will undoubtedly help any student she has. To end on a light note, Mary truly is a spectacular musician. Her playing is effortless and always a joy to hear. She makes even the beginning things I’m working on sound musical and fun to play. Mary is a gem of a teacher, and I can’t recommend her enough.
Michael DeVore is a gifted musician and a very patient teacher. I would recommend his approach to anyone of any age who wants to start to learn or progress in piano or guitar. Also, Michael is very flexible which is valuable to anyone with a busy schedule.
Jake is a versatile guitarist musician and can play and teach classical music as well as any other style. He has a wide variety of surprising practice exercises, never boring, always different and fun. He always includes some part of the theory to explain the piece, to make it easier to understand. Jake would come into our house, always on time, and he was very professional in the way he approached me as a student, and I am very sorry that I had to quit my lessons. He charges less than other teachers I have looked at.
We hired the Michael Benson Band to play at our wedding at Roche Harbor Resort on San Juan Island. Since we were bringing the band all the way over to the island, we decided to put them to work throughout the entire event! Michael and one bandmate performed a guitar/sax duo for our Ceremony, then Michael played some keyboard music for the Cocktail Hour, and then the whole 5-piece band played for our four hour Reception. Michael was an absolute pleasure to work with both before and during the event! They are all excellent musicians and we loved the music throughout the event. Michael did a fantastic job of being the "MC" during the reception and made sure that it kept its flow throughout the night! We would not hesitate to hire them again! Definitely one of the best decisions we made for our wedding night!
Sarah introduced our children to the world of music and piano five years ago and was a steady and constant guide on their journey, providing them with exceptional technical skills while encouraging an appreciation for the art of music and what it means to be a musician. She also understands how to keep kids motivated.
It was/has been the best decision I have made in my life music wise. She knows her stuff and she pushes/inspires you to be the best musician you can be. If you have a love for music and you are serious about improving your talent then I suggest that you give her call, you won't regret it. :)
With a PhD in music, David Shere brings a wealth of knowledge to music instruction, and he's a fantastic musician and performing artist. I've been in his improvisation class for a year now, in addition to studying theory with him. He's an outstanding teacher and working with him has led to a huge improvement in my performances. Plus his classes are a lot of fun; no small accomplishment considering how much material we cover! I highly recommend David as a teacher.
Charlotte played my wedding in Oregon. I gave her a budget and the style I was looking for and she found a group to accompany her that was perfect. They played jazz and a piano solo for the ceremony and country for the reception. It was exactly what I wanted. She was very professional and gave me peace of mind by taking care of things before I could even think about them. I would highly recommend her services.
Our daughter has taken voice lessons with Aaron for about 3 years and really loves her time in his studio. Aaron has a wonderful ability to connect and has really helped her become the confident singer she is today. Bitterlake Studio is an extremely warm, positive, safe and inspriring environment and Aaron is the most supportive teacher. He is a very talented musician and a passionate and artistic person. His presence puts her at ease with a confidence to explore her strenghts and weaknesses. We are so grateful for Aaron making it a challenging but very fun learning experience for our daughter.
Melanie Stevens has taught my daughter piano for years. She is a talented musician and a gifted teacher. I have been very impressed with her ability to adapt her teaching to “where my daughter is” at any given time. She is very kind, extremely patient, and makes the lessons fun. I feel so fortunate to have found her and look forward to continuing lessons as my daughter progresses with piano.
James made my little wedding celebration very special. He is a very skilled musician. Highly recommend.
Band was absolutely amazing and with much better musicians at a lower price than other bands we checked out. They were able to learn and master our first dance songs on a last minute basis, play some unexpected live requests, and even allow our friends to join and sing on a couple tunes. Many people complimented the vocalist and the band in general at the end of the night as well. Highly recommend. I have background in music, and these guys know how to play.
Ron Is a very versatile musician who is professional and easy to work with!
I use Ian for our monthly music and all of our Wine Club releases as well. He is always professional, easy to work with, and always demanded by our guests to come back. If you are looking for the perfect sound, from a dependable musician, look no further. I highly recommend Ian (and his band if you have the space for it) for any event. He can rock any room, and he can also serenade any audience as well. He also brings an audience with him, and his sound draws in anybody within range. And unlike a lot in his profession; he is dependable and always incredibly easy to work with. Thank you Ian!
Olivia, Collin, and Mitch are everything you could ever wish for is a Jazz Trio. They are professional, friendly, and AMAZING MUSICIANS! These guys have a real magic when they play together! We recently did a recording together and the recording engineer was continually gushing: "Did you hear that? These guys are good!" In addition to all this they're extremely humble and easy to work with. Have a request? They'll go out of their way to meet it!
Lauren was able to accommodate a last minute request to play at my son's rehearsal dinner, when the musician we had hired had a medical emergency. As it turned out, I was SO much happier with Lauren and her harp than I would have been with a Jazz band - she provided the perfect accompaniment to an intimate gathering of close friends and family of the bride and groom. She plays beautifully, and I highly recommend her!
Marco is an outstanding musician and guitarist. A specialist and knowledgeable teacher of Brazilian and classical music. If you are planing on taking lessons from him, you better be ready for a serious professional which I highly recommend. Geisa Dutra, M.M.
Love hearing Lindstrom and Company perform! I've gone to so many of their shows and every time is amazing. Beautiful vocals, and great song selections. It's always a fun evening with this band!
Awesome band. Very nice people. I would hire this band again in a heartbeat. I will have live music again next year for sure.
About Blackout Sappy Genre: Post-Grunge Related: Kurt Cobain Description: "Blackout Sappy (Band) Post-Grunge" Why this name? Mainly, it was Kurt Cobain who inspired me; he had come to my school casually, sat down, and started playing acoustic songs from various albums. This was 3 months before he passed away tragically. After that, I dedicated myself to write music with passion, with the burning pain that I had; we had such similar backgrounds in growing up. We were both deemed "bipolar" by the doctors, but no medicine had any effect, and the gnawing pain deep inside the soul, that only Kurt and I knew. We seemed to be fated, so when he was gone, I've decided to do a solo project in, thanks. So, I chose the name Blackout Sappy, Sappy being a rare B-side track on a alternative sampler album entitled "No Alternative". It was a hidden track called "Sappy". The Blackout came easy, because I often have blackouts. Do you play live? Yes, at small acoustic venues. My genre is post grunge. Brief Bio: Blackout Sappy is a solo band, the artist's name is Nathan Alan. He writes all music, lyrics, sings all vocals, plays guitar, bass, and uses synth drum kits, and keyboard. How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry? I think it helps artists who wouldn't normally be heard, a voice. Would you sign a record contract with a major label? Sure, as long as I didn't have to compromise myself and why I play. I put everything into my music; to take that away is just not worth it, no price. Your influences? - Kurt Cobain - Elliot Smith - Bush - Linkin Park - Stone Sour - Slipknot - Mudvayne - The Doors Equipment used: - fender jagstang re-issue (designed by Authorized Kurt Cobain) - small clone (foot pedal) - big muff pie (distortion foot pedal/German) - Shure Sm-58 Pro Vocal Microphone Right now, whatever I can get my hands on, I'm working on rebuilding my studio. Final Notes: One day, my message, my voice, my music will be heard. I don't care if I get rich or famous from it, as long as people know what my life was all about in the end. We were a finalist in the Seattle, WA's Hard Rock Cafe "Hard Rock Rising" battle of the bands 2011.
