FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
During the initial lesson, we talk about any previous background the student has had with music, the students' goals, and how I will help them reach these goals. We then have a fun, interactive lesson to get the student started with some playing exercises they can do at home to prepare for the next lesson. I answer any questions the student may have and write out lesson notes to hand them at the end of the lesson.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I studied music performance at Eastern Kentucky University, graduating with my B.M. in 2014. While at Eastern, I was mentored by two violin/viola instructors and played in many professional ensembles with them. These experiences early on gave me the skills and knowledge to succeed in the music performance world. The private lesson instruction I received during this time also prepared me well for having my own lesson studio. After my college experiences, I began playing with groups such as Electria, Louisville Strings, the Highland Chamber Players, the Kentucky Bach Choir, Volare, String Elegance and many others. I had the opportunities to play well-known classical works, as well as pop music arrangements, movie music, rock music, and oldies. I love this variety in making music and encourage my students to explore all musical genres that appeal to them as well.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I began violin lessons from the age of 5, and never stopped playing music from then on! I learned piano in elementary school, then started playing the viola in high school. I was involved in youth orchestra and summer music camps, loving every minute of it! Once I started teaching students of my own, I found that I really enjoyed teaching as well and have continued educating others ever since.
