Stephen did a great job mounting my TV on the wall & hiding the wires behind the wall. He even helped me with other small projects around the house after he finished mounting the tv.

Easy to work with, good work, and most surprising... he charged us less than he quoted when he saw the project in person. We will definitely hire him again if we need dry wall work.

Dennis did an incredible job and we would definitely hire him again. He was a pleasure to work with, very responsive, and was very knowledgeable about the project. We hired him to build a concrete foundation and assemble a shed, and the finished product looks excellent.

Jorge did a great job fixing a crack in my living room wall that has continued to re-appear over the last few years. He removed a section of drywall and created the necessary gap (where the crack had previously returned a few times within a week of repairing), and the wall looks great. I was really impressed with his ability to apply texture and make the repaired area match the rest of the wall. Jorge is a really personable guy and a hard working family man. He definitely won my vote.

Jose did a great job texturing the walls in my powder room after I removed the wallpaper. He also covered up two big damage spots in the wall and you couldn’t even tell it had been repaired. He was personable and right on time!

The painting crew were very hard workers, arrived early, stayed late, barely took breaks and finished an entire DAY early (painting inside of my entire house)! They patched a pretty large hole in the wall and plenty of small ones before painting too. Their work was amazing and I look forward to hiring Hurtado Painting again in the future!

My wife and I have a 1,000 sq. ft. rental condo that was in need of wall repairs and paint due to poor tenants. There was preventable water damage in the master bath, chips and dings on most of the corners of each wall due to moving furniture in and out of the condo, all the lower white trim and white doors were scuffed, scratched, and or punctured. Overall it was in need of some TLC for the next tenants. Using thumbtack for the first time was a great experience and it saved me a lot of time instead of searching for painters individually. Within 24 hours I had 3 bids and appointments set within that week to look over the condo. I highly recommend it and plan to use it in the future for my next project. Meeting David and his DYC Painting crew was pleasant and professional. They are a younger team that is family oriented and hard working. A project that would of taken my wife and I probably a good seven days took only 2 days for DYC to complete. They have competitive pricing and are willing to wheel and deal to earn your business. DYC did all the work and repairs requested plus on schedule as promised. After inspection of their work there were some minor details that my wife and I found but the team easily fixed them right on the spot and made sure we were happy with the work performed and the appearance of the condo. I definitely would use them again if needed and hope that you would consider giving them a chance to earn your business. .:Rick Bremerton, WA.

Cedo was great to work with and did an excellent job tiling floors, building / tiling a custom shower and adding old bricks masonry onto an interior wall. He is extremely professional and goes to great lengths to make sure the work is as perfect as possible given the construction site conditions. My remodel turned out to be challenging because of the walls not being straight and the brick wall being very time consuming, but he was very gracious about any unforeseen obstacles and worked extremely hard to get the project finished. He was a very valuable thought partner each step of the way, and I ended up extending the original scope to include installing a backsplash, doors and trim. The end result looks spectacular and i would hire him again in a heartbeat!

I had All Phases Building move the kitchen from one side of the living room to the other and enlarge. They removed the dividing wall and created an open concept. They did an exceptional job and the price was better than the other two companies that bid the job. I would use them again.

Pluses: Joseph has great communication skills, knows paint/wall texturing well and did a fantastic job on our newly purchased one bedroom condo (white ceiling with three colors of green and a red accent wall). Additionally he works with a drywall/ceiling remudding and repair person, Scott, who did a great job prepping our post-popcorn ceiling abatement for painting. Both are personable and professional. Minuses: After our ceiling remud, we had to clean up a few drips in our outside our apartment , in our elevator and in our lobby. Our job went 5 days longer than expected and gear (lights, a stand and extension cord) was left behind, which affected our moving schedule and created more work to schedule when to get the gear picked up (10 days after the job was done). On the whole: The pluses far out-weighed the minuses, for sure. AND We have grown more and more appreciative of the good work done by Yes Dear Painting every day as we get our place set up. A solid FOUR STARS!

Chris and Joe are a couple honest, hard working guys who want to leave you happy with their final product. When I initiated communication with them via the app, they quickly responded and arrived promptly at the scheduled time. We had multiple dry wall cracks in our house. They guaranteed a complete fix of the cracks, vs. a quick patch job, which what was done previously and the reason why it re-cracked. When providing the quote, they were clear that they don't choose the paint and leave that up to the owner to provide. Now I know why. I had to get multiple paints custom mixed at Lowes and none of they were a perfect match. This meant there was a visible difference on the paint over the crack fix vs. the rest of the wall. With that said, my one takeaway is to just let these guys quote for a complete paint job over the wall affected. It will be slightly more pricey, but look at lot better. Don't know a lot about paint? Express that to the guys and they will guide you in what type of paint to get! Trust them, they aren't trying to upsell you, only recommending what will look best. We ended up making optimizations to our dry wall project while it was going on, but it would have been a smoother and quicker process if we had agreed to a more comprehensive quote from the very beginning. I'm pleased with the work done and they were very respectful about keeping things tidy and leaving the house looking as it was before (meticulous hanging of plastic, masking, sweeping, and returning items as they were). One item I want to particularly applaud them on is how receptive they were to my questions and candid feedback. They have integrity in their work and genuinely want to leave the customer satisfied. They guaranteed their work and encouraged me to reach out if there was any issues.

This company has done a ton of stuff for me, from small things like installing a dishwasher, through roof repairs and tearing down walls to combine rooms, to building a very difficult retaining wall. I get the impression nothing is too small or too big. Prices are extraordinarily reasonable. I wouldn't call anyone else.

Gabby and her crew did a phenomenal job painting my split-level entry walls, ceiling, and trim. In a few hours, they were able to finish an entry way and repair ceiling paint my husband and I have been trying to DIY for the past couple of weeks. Great quality for a reasonable price within a relatively tight time frame. I requested a bid around 2:00 in the afternoon and they were able to meet me after work the same day. They were able to finish the job about 3 days after our initial meeting. I'll definitely use them again.

Three walls wallpapered in dining room. Included working around three windows, with one wall 14-16 feet high. It took 26 hours at a bill rate of 35/hour. Rosie is very easy to work with and did a great job with the high corners.

I had hired a different contractor who started job and bailed. Brian at craftsman construction saved me! I had them convert garage space into a bonus room. They also did a lot of sheetrock and sheetrock repair plus the entire house finish work/trim and painted walls and all doors. They did an impressive job, I would highly recommend!

I contracted with Jesse to repair a bath and shower, both had leaked through tiles and there was extensive water damage on walls and floor in both bathrooms. I think Jesse and his team are great at carpentry and masonry, from prep to finish. The extensive water damage made it difficult to come up with an accurate quote, and in the end unforeseen damage in both bathrooms was repaired with additional updates for an additional fraction of the original estimate and with excellent workmanship! I think Jesse is fair, reasonable and has his customer’s interests in mind.

Devon did a phenomenal job with our 2 bathrooms. We replaced the vanities, painted the walls and replaced all the fixtures. There were a few unexpected steps required with the vanity plumbing but Devon was really positive and worked through the challenges. Additionally, he didn’t nickel and dime us for everything that came up.at the end of the job, he was very meticulous with touch ups, adjustments and making sure we were completely satisfied with his work. Everything turned out beautifully. He does great work for a reasonable price. We would definitely work with Devon again. Check out the before and after photos

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

  • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
  • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

  • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
  • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
  • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
