Darren C. says, "Look no further than G&E if you are looking for any hardscape work to be done. I had over 15 contractors come out to give me an estimate and not only was Polo's estimate super competitive, but his suggestions were also more thought out than some of the other proposals. The work I saw in his portfolio along with his responsiveness and willingness to provide materials for us to look at sealed the deal. His crew worked extremely hard, was respectful of my neighbor's property, and kept me in the loop regarding their progress and findings. Early on when they started digging, they discovered some oddities regarding my gutter drainage. Not only did they call it out, they put in the work to correctly address it. Throughout the life of the project, at every decision point, I repeatedly saw them making the right decision even if it meant more work and time. Their commitment to doing things right the first time around is apparent. On their final day, they took the time to clean up the whole area adjacent to the project site and left the front yard, sidewalk, and street tidier than when they first arrived. Overall, I'm extremely happy with their work and am looking forward to re-engaging with Polo and his crew for future projects."See more

Joel Glovier says, "Recently my kitchen sink drain separated and was draining into the crawlspace of my house for an unknown period until I discovered it and the damage it had caused, which was significant.I hired another business to do address the plumbing repair itself, and was referred to Collett Construction for the damage remediation, which included water damage around the kitchen sink, cabinets, and flooring.Cameron, Tony, and Robbie did an amazing job with the project and they were wonderful to have in my home while they were there. They were kind, courteous, and professional, and I was kept informed throughout the project about what to expect. Cameron was very transparent and honest up front by letting me know up what parts of the job might include unknown costs, which was helpful for budgeting and expectations (they also offered financing through GreenSky which was helpful, and something I've used on other emergency projects on my property). The work involved removing my kitchen cabinets, sink, and granite countertops to remediate the water damage behind (drywall, parts of the cabinet structure, etc). They did great work and helped improve a few things while they were in there that had been an unknown problem for years apparently (faulty wiring with a hacky and dangerous fix apparently from previous owners, updates to eroded copper piping, and upgrades to aging water shut off valves). They also addressed an issue with my kitchen ceiling from a leaky bathroom upstairs while they were there, which I was super grateful for.Definitely would hire again and recommend to anyone looking to hire them!"See more

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do plumbers charge per hour?

Depending on the service you need (unclogging a drain, fixing a pipe, installing new pipes, etc.), plumbers charge anywhere from $45-$165 per hour. Plumbers often operate on a fixed rate model, too. Some won’t charge hourly rates because the variables involved in their work makes it less practical to do so.

Plumbers will scope out the work, calculate the cost of parts, and roll it together with other fees to give you an estimate for the job. They may even offer standard flat rates for things like installing a toilet or a sink. Reach out to plumbers near you to get an accurate cost estimate for your project or repair.

What are plumbers and what do they do?

Plumbers are skilled professionals who are trained to install and maintain pipes and systems for drinking water, sewage and drainage. They usually have trained through four- to five-year training programs, which include apprenticeships, via trade schools and community colleges. Plumbers’ areas of expertise typically go beyond pipes to include mathematics, blueprint reading, plumbing codes and water distribution. They handle plumbing emergencies, such as broken pipes or clogged drains, and install and maintain everything from a new piping system to a replacement faucet. Plumbers also know how to install bathtubs and showers, toilets, water heaters and dishwashers. Plumbers may work on residential or commercial sites, sometimes designing and laying out a pipe system during construction.

How do you find a good plumber?

Whether you need a plumber to perform drain repair, install a new fixture, or replace rusty pipes, you need to make sure you hire someone reliable who will finish your job on time and within budget. Start by asking the plumbers on your short list these questions:

  • What is the total cost? Make sure your estimate includes materials and labor. Find out whether the plumber will be providing the materials and whether you’re being charged an hourly rate (which is variable) or a flat fee.
  • Is removal and cleanup included in the job? Some plumbers leave behind old parts, while others include the cleanup in the cost.
  • Is the work guaranteed? Find out whether the work (as well as the parts or fixtures) are guaranteed under a warranty.

Follow these additional tips for confidently hiring a plumber or other skilled professional.
