Introduction: I love bringing people from my studio together. My studio takes trips to the opera and symphony. I like to have students play together in ensembles. Music is so much more than just notes! I have always loved teaching. I am continually fascinated by my subject and am so happy when students achieve their goals. Every accomplishment no matter how small should be acknowledged.

FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Most definitely! I take lessons myself whenever I can. And of course, I keep on top of new techniques through my musical associations like the National Association of Teachers of Singing and the American Viola Society.

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

It is something that I have always done. In my first year of college the local high school asked the faculty if any music students would be willing to come in and teach the kids. I volunteered immediately.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Teaching music is a very specialized field. In truth, you aren't really hiring a teacher. The student and teacher are embarking on a journey together, if I may be permitted to use a cliché. This is an endeavor that demands participation. I love that each student brings their talent and point of view. I will frequently ask the students advice about fingering or how they see a particular piece of music. There are certainly tried and true methods to be taught, but there is always room for interpretation and play.
