Sam did a new concrete basement floor for me to replace the brick one in my older home. Was a lot of work but Sam and crew took care of business for a very reasonable price. A few hiccups along the way, but we worked through it together and the end result was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks Sam.

Jeremy is the hardest worker I know. He is detailed and does an excellent job. He tiled my kitchen and has been working on installing the stone veneer around my garage and house. It looks fantastic! We even asked him to do another job for us, the siding on our house and he gave us a great quote! Jeremy is very reasonable, trustworthy and amazing at everything he does!

Cedo was great to work with and did an excellent job tiling floors, building / tiling a custom shower and adding old bricks masonry onto an interior wall. He is extremely professional and goes to great lengths to make sure the work is as perfect as possible given the construction site conditions. My remodel turned out to be challenging because of the walls not being straight and the brick wall being very time consuming, but he was very gracious about any unforeseen obstacles and worked extremely hard to get the project finished. He was a very valuable thought partner each step of the way, and I ended up extending the original scope to include installing a backsplash, doors and trim. The end result looks spectacular and i would hire him again in a heartbeat!

As quoted, on time, neat and clean! They repaired the chimney & replaced the cap, installed stucco over the cement block/brick to seal the chimney from further deterioration. I would recommend them again. Reasonably priced and quality work.

I hired Crisitina from Thumbtack for two projects 1- My wood floor installation 2- Kitchen Countertop replacement In both of the projects, I found him pretty good. He has good knowledge of what he's doing. He was right on time, completed the work as commitment. Before finalizing Crisitina, I got quotes from several contractors and I found him best out of those. He's easy to work with and friendly. He was also flexible with things I cut off after getting quote from him. I can refer him to anyone and he would be my first choice for future projects like this.

Carlos was prompt from the beginning. He answered my questions, waited for me to get back and then we finally set up a time for the door installation. Once I decided to go ahead, he met me within 2 days--not a week later. As it turns out, it was terrible weather and he called again early on installation day to say he was running late with the rain and poor streets. Very courteous and professional. When it came to the door installation, we decided to take the prehung door I bought and just replace the door. He had to repostion the hinges but made it fit nicely. He also replaced the worn weatherstripping. He told me at the onset if I didn't like it for whatever reason he would replace everything and just put in the prehung frame. It turned out beautifully and fits great, No need to revert to the original plan. I am glad Carlos suggested this idea first as I wasn't thrilled about tearing our the front door and wondering whether the brick surround would still fit snug. He was very well prepared with all the necessary tools and cleaned up also. Truthfully he didn't make much of a mess to begin with which I appreciated. This is my first time using Thumbtack and I am so glad I found Carlos. I will use him in the future again. Thank you very much Carlos,

Ryan S. gave us an estimate, as members of Angie's list we received a nice discount, the estimate was all inclusive for the work needed, both inside and outside brickwork in our home in Lynnwood. A date was set for the work to be done, it was accomplished today by Ryan, he was fast, efficient and cleaned up everything - spotless. I would highly recommend Chimcare and Ryan!

Kevin and his crew were awesome. We initially hired them to cover some of our brick exterior with Stucco. There was a mix-up with how the color appeared once it was applied but Kevin helped to get that cleared up and we are really happy with his work. We ended up also hiring Kevin to replace our old asphalt driveway with concrete and once again he and his team knocked it out of the park. I will definitely be using Kevin again for any future projects that his team can do.

Devin is an outstanding craftsman. We are installing marble tile in our bathroom; but don't have the proper tools or experience to bull-nose the edges ourselves. We hired Devin of DMJ Services. He did an outstanding job and completed the work in 1 day (54 lineal feet). I highly recommend him for bull-nosing tile, and I wouldn't hesitate to hire him for the complete tile job. His craftsmanship is evidence that he has been doing this kind of work for many years. He does exceptional work!

Very satisfied 👍I wanted a remodel of my kitchen(lighting- replace 2 strip lights and add cans, cabinets-countertops backsplash ,sink), living room (crown molding, base boards, brick fireplace, floors), laundry room(tile floors, paint). I met with Mr. Daw and he was very professional and courteous. I explained exactly what I wanted. He even offered suggestions, which I did go with and everything turned out as planned. No unexpected surprises or cost overruns. I have had nothing but compliments on my remodel. Thank you Mr. Daw for doing a great job.

I highly recommend Ken for any tile and stone work to be done. I had Ken Smith remodel both my bathrooms with marble tile, and installing granite counter tops. His craftmanship is world class, he's so easy to work with, and was totally willing to work with me to meet all my needs. He took so much extra care in installing all the tile, and the bathrooms came out beautiful, definitely world class work. I definitely could see in his workmanship the extra attention to detail and the time and care he took to make sure the tile is laid out in the most visually appealing manner possible. He listens to my needs and takes extra care to make my vision a reality. Ken is super easy to work with, and very accomodating. There are always road blocks, and problems that come up during a construction process. Everytime something comes up, he would give me a call and work with me to make sure problems are resolved. Ken finishes his work on time, on budget, and with exceptional quality. I highly recommend Ken to anyone who wants their tile and stone work done.

We had a dated hardwood foyer with marble inlay...it had to go! We looked at other people's finished projects when deciding and they did not measure up to what we expected for our finished look. Joshua knew our vision was to tie in a more rustic Northwood's vibe with stone to compliment our fire place and mantel in the family room. The quality of the new stone floor is amazing and is holding up well. The stone placement was so even and thought out by Joshua, we could not have imagined it any better! We highly recommend Joshua and 4Generation Masonry and Design!

Robert has done a number of jobs for me over the last year. He redid my fireplace added gas for a new insert, tiled over the brick and designed and built a new mantle. The result was spectacular! He has redone my 3 bathrooms that were all gutted, he put in new flooring and tiled the 2 showers and installed a new tub and surrounding tile in the third. He is completely trustworthy and is very easy to work with. You won't find a nicer more professional person to work with on any home remodel project!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

      • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
        • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
      • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
        • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
      • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
        • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
      • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
        • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
      • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
        • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
        • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
        • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
          • Includes removal of the dura rock.
      • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

      • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
        • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
      • 620 square feet of maple floor:
        • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
        • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
          • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
