Introduction: If you want your piano studies to be a fun and enjoyable experience, I think you have come to the right place. After over 30 years of teaching piano and two music degrees, I have found that along with innovative teaching techniques, humor helps my students achieve the greatest success. After all, studies have shown that we learn best when we're smiling 😀. A FREE INTRO LESSON is the best way to find out if I'm the right teacher for you or your child. Prior to that, we could discuss by phone what your goals and aspirations are for you or your child and to answer any questions you might have about my approach. Many teachers and students shy away from taking lessons online. But after over 4 years of teaching online, I have devised many techniques to make the process go very smoothly and effectively. For instance, students frequently receive customized audios and videos to help them practice throughout the week. Each student's lesson plan is based on their own musical interests, goals, and learning style. Along with fundamental skill-building, I also teach improvisation, composition, theory, and music history. Students are encouraged to use the skills they develop to express themselves, enlarge their musical horizons, and develop a vision for themselves as a musician, in whatever capacity. I teach all levels and all ages from six years old and above. I have 2 degrees in music from the University of Washington. I majored in piano performance and music history with special emphasis on pedagogy and advanced theory. I continued my post-university education through private piano lessons, workshops, and colloquia on teaching theory. One of my hobbies is studying ongoing research in current brain science with regard to learning and teaching. I endeavor to continue growing as a teacher and musician. For example, I began studying vocal jazz ten years ago and have performed in a non-professional capacity in several venues, including Tula's in Seattle. Taking lessons and performing on a second instrument has not only improved my overall musicianship, it has also reminded me of the challenges of being a beginner. My grandparents were professional musicians, and their joy with music and teaching influenced me to want to follow in their footsteps. I hope to pass their love of music on to my students. Guiding others as they develop their own relationship with music is a great privilege and deeply rewarding endeavor. I am very fortunate to have the opportunity to do what I love. I look forward to having the opportunity to work with you!

Lauri makes you feel good about learning at every level, from the basics of learning Middle C to a Chord! She has excellent follow through with tasks, including creating duets for practice between lessons.

I enjoy my piano lessons with Lauri. Her understandings of music theory and historical perspectives of music development seem boundless. She is thorough and exacting in her teaching and is not satisfied (in my experience) until her students understand the lesson material. It's a treat that she accomplishes the above while also making it fun! She is patient beyond compare and selects lesson materials that are suited to where I am as a piano player while also encouraging me to expand my skills and abilities. I recommend her to anyone wishing to learn how to play the piano or to someone who wants to play better.

Details: 65 years or older • Yes, the student can read music • 2 - 4 yrs of formal training • Classical • Yes, the student has a piano • 45 minutes • Remotely (phone or internet)

Before starting the classes she told me you will surprised how will be efficient lessons with 7 years old. She was right! Lauri sends videos to give assignments and how to use hands fingers every week. And when my daughter struggles to remember melody she open the video and understands right away thanks Lauri We are so happy working with you

I'm actually still working with Mrs. Lauri, and I have to say I am enjoying piano lessons from her. I cannot believe I am actually playing the piano right now. It is something I have dreamed about for such a long time. That said, we have many a good laugh; I'm moving along in my lessons; and she is very kind and has an abundance of tips to help me progress when I hit snags in how to play new pieces. She is aware of my goal/reason for learning piano, and she has made it clear several times that she believes I will be able to reach my goal. She is definitely encouraging me and making sure I progress to my goals at a steady pace. I will add anyone who wants to learn how to play an instrument has to be willing to put in the work! If I'm not in front of the piano, then I'm practicing by memory with my hands. My last week was busy and so I wasn't able to practice everyday, but she was gracious with me, understanding, and still challenged me with new material. I truly enjoy working with Mrs. Lauri! Use her as your instructor!

Working with Lauri has been an absolute DREAM! I'm 23 and am just getting back into piano after years of lessons on and off as a child. I've had many different piano teachers over the years and she's by far been the best! I told Lauri at the start that I wanted to focus on sight reading (I started basically at a beginner level with her) and she has made sure to give me any tips and tricks she has to make sure I achieve my goals. Even with remote lessons, (we live in completely different states) she has managed to bring back my love of piano and help me improve SO MUCH. Lauri makes sure to focus on what's important to me, while also supplementing/offering other styles and ways to learn. She is SO KNOWLEDGEABLE, which makes her wonderful to work with. I truly feel like I found an expert, but one that cares about me and wants to share her knowledge. I would recommend her a thousand times over!
