Dan Germano of Motio Media created a sizzle reel for the Everett Film Festival. He was easy to work with and responded quickly any time we had a question or wanted any changes. We would gladly work with Motio Media again.

Greg helped us film a storytelling event Seattle University that captured the tales and anecdotes of folks who had served at a rural Alaska school in the 1950s, and subsequently began a Jesuit volunteer movement that our organization, Jesuit Volunteer Corps Northwest, continues today. Greg was affordable, professional, and very easy to work with, especially on a tight time schedule, which we very much appreciated.

John was great. Super friendly. We hired him a day or two before our wedding. He kept out of the photographers way and overall has been great. I would recommend him.

We have gone to Ford Video in the past and recently returned to them for a quick turn around editing project. Susy was helpful, professional, a great communicator and helped us edit our video in no time. The video was for our wedding reception and we were extremely happy with the results. When we showed the video at our reception, our guests loved it! We couldn't have done it without Ford Video and we plan to use them again for upcoming projects. I have been recommending Ford Video to friends and family who might need their services in the future.

Our problem: We needed to get a customer success story captured on video -- and extremely fast. (Not to mention I live in Iowa -- and was coordinating this shoot in Seattle.) Our solution: Use TSP and Edward to help coordinate and film the shoot in Seattle. Our result: Edward was fantastic to work with! He was quick to respond, incredibly helpful and professional -- and his video footage was excellent quality. I'd use Edward again for sure -- even though I live hundreds of miles away.

It's our family tradition to have professional photos taken every five years. After intently listening to our vision, The StoryMakers selected the perfect location for the shoot. Their service was timely, flexible and FUN! They make you feel special, like you are their only client. The biggest challenge was selecting from the array of great photos. The StoryMakers captured our family's personality on film. Thank you for telling our story

John managed to pull together a great technology demo video within a limited timeframe and budget. The company I work for is small and has a very limited budget for marketing purposes. John is very reasonable and understood this. Within three days of contact, he was onsite and shooting film. He was professional and efficient and certainly knows what he is doing. Within a week, he shot the video, did the voiceover and the requested animations to complete the video. A week later, we had the final product and it has been money well spent. All of this while he juggled other projects and personal emergencies. We will certainly use his services again in the future.

Imogen worked for me for a number of years as a camera operator and field producer. In that time, she revealed not only a tireless work ethic, but also an unerring eye for shot composition, rapport with the people (and sometimes animals) being interviewed and filmed, and a phenomenal creative vision. In the years she worked for me, I found her to be one of my most dependable and flexible staff members, as well as an ambitious, visionary photographer/video producer.

Love our wedding videos!! They were exactly what we were looking for, and I’m so glad my husband and I will have these memories to look back on for years to come. Peter was great to work with. He always responded quickly to any requests we had prior to the wedding, during the wedding we hardly even noticed the filming because he was out of the way yet capturing beautiful moments, and after the wedding he was just as available for any questions about editing. Thank you Peter!!!

Cole made a spa video for my business and he is so passionate about filming, he made sure to get the right angles, stayed to make my room look even better, helped me with tips and tricks for a better video, calmed my nerves since being on camera makes me nervous! And I felt comfortable being filmed! His editing skills are also awesome! Highly recommend

Amora Cinema filmed our engagement and wedding video and both films turned out absolutely beautiful. I would have to say that choosing to have a videographer was one of the best investments we made for our wedding. When it came to filming our engagement video, it was so much fun! Rafael and Pauahi made the awkwardness of filming enjoyable and comfortable. We spent an entire evening filming but it simply felt like spending time with great friends and just hanging out. They both have a great gift with making their clients feel at ease around the camera and it was unreal to see the outcome of the engagement video. Once our wedding day rolled around, it was nice that we had filmed the engagement video because it took some tension off of being filmed since we knew what to expect. Even though we were being filmed pretty much the entire day, Rafael and Pauahi never made us feel bombarded by being filmed and did a great job being behind the scenes and capturing our wedding day Kodak moments. Rafael had a wonderful idea to play our engagement video during our reception and although I loved the idea, I knew we did not have the extra funds to rent out a projector. Rafael went out of his way to reach out to our reception and ask if they had a projector they could use to show our video and as luck would have it they did! Rafael set up the projector and provided us with one of the absolute best gifts on our wedding day. Not only did he show our beautiful engagement video, he completed a same-day edit of our wedding day! As I looked around the room I could just see the tears rolling from all our friends and family as our engagement video and wedding video unfolded "our story". Rafael did such an unbelievable job at showing our loved ones our love story and incorporating moments with our friends and family on our wedding day in the film.. It was absolutely amazing and I still cannot believe he was able to edit and put together the film in such a short amount of time. We received so many compliments after the video was shown about how beautiful the film was and even more compliments when we shared our video with friends and family that could not attend our wedding. Rafael has definitely found his passion in life and it genuinely shows in his work. I can say without hesitation that our film was one of the highlights of our day and I am so blessed to have worked with such humble individuals that put their all into making our film something we will always remember. My biggest advice to all engaged couples is to set aside a budget for your wedding day to be filmed. Your wedding day is so busy and fast paced it is hard to remember and capture all of those treasured moments, but with a wedding day film you always have the option to relive your wedding day. My now husband was not immediately on board with the idea because we paid for our entire wedding ourselves and it was just another expense to add, but he was so happy with Rafaels service and after he saw the videos he agreed it was one of the best investments we made for the wedding. I highly, highly recommend Amora Cinema for your wedding day videography. Thank you so much Rafael and Pauahi and good luck to your bright future together!

I had the opportunity to work with Daniel on two video projects for my company. One was editing some existing videos for an educational video series and the other was a maintenance video for one of our instruments. In both cases it was really easy working with Daniel and I really liked the work he did. During the educational video series I communicated with Daniel remotely via email. It was very easy to provide Daniel with content and details regarding what I wanted edited and Daniel was very responsive in getting me fairly quick turn over for ~ 5 minute long videos. Daniel was also really patient as I would watch the video, find something I didn't catch the first time, and ask him to make the corrections. On the second video project, Daniel worked with me in house and we both filmed the maintenance video together. During this time Daniel was very nice, easy to work with, and produced some excellent quality videos. I enjoyed working with Daniel, but really enjoyed his own creative spin on things and I thought made things better than I imagined. For example, I was perfectly satisfied with a logo that faded in and out during our introduction. But he created an animation of our logo that was much my dynamic and really brought a quality to the video that I didn't even think about. Either way, I would highly recommend Daniel for video projects, both remote editing as well as in-person video shooting.

We were debating on whether or not we even wanted videography for our wedding. We decided to go for it since we only get married once in our lives, hopefully. I have never been happier with the product, service and overall experience while working with a professional. AG Films captures all the right moments and tells a beautiful story of the whole wedding in his videos. My wife and I love the video so much, we end up rewatching it at least once a week. A big thank you for making our day extra special.

I hired Kabja to film 4 videos for my garment company. We shot them over the course of 3 days. It was a challenging task that required hard work, patience and innovation. The team was very creative, innovative and willing to do whatever was necessary to get the right shot. Kabja delivered what they promised in a timely manner. The videos are outstanding. I look forward to working with them in the future.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
