We hired Proman Services to wash all our windows and skylights inside and outside, clean the roof, driveway walkways, and siding all around our house. Jorge and his wife did an excellent job. Our house looks great. I appreciated that they cleaned up all the debris as the last time we hired someone they left a mess all around the outside of our house. Jorge gave a fair quote and stuck to it. He was timely in all communication and operated with a high degree of professionalism. We plan to have him come back in the Fall.

I can't say enough good things about Jarrod! He stayed in excellent contact from start to finish, was professional in every way, and did a beautiful job installing my glass shower door enclosure. He very clearly knows his stuff and takes pride in his work - when he initially came to install my shower door kit, he was concerned about the safety of the suggest install procedure and identified a "random" piece in the boxes that he believed to be a necessary part of the install. After contacting the shower door company the next business day, sure enough, Jarrod was right on the money - the "random" piece was indeed very important and the company failed to send the correct install guide. Jarrod could have easily installed the kit the first visit despite his professional misgivings and I would have been none the wiser, but the fact that he took the extra time and visits to do the right thing speaks volumes to his integrity and the quality of his work. I would hire him again in a heartbeat!

Eric did an excellent job on our interior door installation project. He arrived on time and finished the project within the estimated time and exceeded our expectations. I gave 5 stars for the quality of work he has completed as well as for being very friendly/polite the whole time. I will definitely work with him again in the future.

I had them paint the exterior of my house and they are very detailed oriented and do a high quality paint job. So much so, that I am having them do an update on my bathroom (install tile floor, new sink and paint). I'm also going to have them paint the interior of my house adding Crown Moulding to two of the rooms.

I wanted to install a new kitchen faucet as well as an instahot unit but there wasn't really enough room under the sink so he assessed the situation and did a bit of re-routing of the plumbing to make room - it's now nice and tidy and I have an instahot unit! He's also installed shelving and new shower heads and other some minor electrical upgrades (new fixtures, etc). He does a great job and is always friendly and pleasant

Paul has done a variety of work on my rentals and on my several personal residences over the past 20 years. He called my number by mistake in 1994, and it turned out I was looking for someone to build me some steps, so it wasn't a wrong number after all--it was a fortunate coincidence. He is skilled in every phase of construction, knows the code, and never takes shortcuts which jeopardize the finished work, be it plumbing, electrical, painting, or remodeling/construction. Paul knows what tools to use and that makes all the difference in time required to do a job and the quality when it is done. Paul has built two storerooms for me, rebuilt a porch, I've seen balconies he has rebuilt, he's installed linoleum in several of my rentals, laid tile, remodeled a kitchen picking out beautiful cabinets, remodeled several bathrooms, put in a jetted tub, repaired water damaged sheetrock, texturing/painting (he's done lots of that for me), repaired a water leak in foundation wall, found where windows were leaking and repaired them, installed dining room fans, redid the ducting and installed bathroom fans where there were none, switched out all the old interior doors for 6-panel doors, installed mirrored sliders, installed vertical blinds and window blinds, opened the stairway wall to facilitate air circulation, squared the exterior storeroom doors so they closed properly, replaced all the exterior locks, replaced the interior door knobs installed recessed lights, hid all the wires in the wall behind the TV, he's a master at making molding look great and fixing the weird spots so they aren't noticeable. The tile around my fireplace I love--it is marble and stainless steel tiles we found at Lowe's--he picked it out. To coordinate, Paul used stainless steel tiles again and burgundy colored glass tiles (from Lowe's again) for the kitchen. It coordinates so well. And that is one thing Paul has--a good eye for decorating ideas. He's replaced toilets, sinks, vanities, you name it. Once he found a pin hole leak in the bathroom wall behind the toilet that no one else had been able to find. I'm rambling here trying to recall all the various projects he has done for me. One thing where Paul has been a great help is acting as a consultant. When I had water in my dining room he was very helpful in filtering what the various contractors told me so that they could not take advantage of my lack of knowledge. He did the same with regard to slab jacking. Once [unnamed plumbing company] gave me a $3500 estimate to replace the pressure relief valve at the water meter, when I told Paul he steered me on the right path--the $600 path. He advised me when I had all the windows replaced in a triplex I owned. He did the same when I got a 40-year roof and new gutters. It is no small task painting a 3-story building and he supervised that too. Five stars aren't enough really. I've seen him manage a crew and I've seen him work alone. I probably left off some of the work Paul has done for me, he's my first choice for anything and everything to do with remodeling and new construction. It is too bad that my name and email are not shown with this recommendation because I would be happy to talk to you about the work Paul has done for me over the years. Since I'm an attorney, I can add, tongue in cheek, that I make this declaration under penalty of perjury under the laws of State of Washington . . .

Cedo was great to work with and did an excellent job tiling floors, building / tiling a custom shower and adding old bricks masonry onto an interior wall. He is extremely professional and goes to great lengths to make sure the work is as perfect as possible given the construction site conditions. My remodel turned out to be challenging because of the walls not being straight and the brick wall being very time consuming, but he was very gracious about any unforeseen obstacles and worked extremely hard to get the project finished. He was a very valuable thought partner each step of the way, and I ended up extending the original scope to include installing a backsplash, doors and trim. The end result looks spectacular and i would hire him again in a heartbeat!

We love finding Pro's on Thumbtack.com. After getting a quick reply after out posting, and a fair price from Gary, we signed him up. Despite the the area getting it's first day of snow, Gary got in and got the work done. An upstairs shower drain leak had destroyed two layers of drywall on the garage ceiling. Gary installed a new drain. We will gladly recommend Gary Long of Go Long Plumbing to anyone with a plumbing leak. We especially really like the easy of use of the peace of mind we feel when using pro's sourced through Thumbtack.com.

This company has done a ton of stuff for me, from small things like installing a dishwasher, through roof repairs and tearing down walls to combine rooms, to building a very difficult retaining wall. I get the impression nothing is too small or too big. Prices are extraordinarily reasonable. I wouldn't call anyone else.

We are so appreciative for the work that Ryan did for us. Initially we hired Ryan to install our front entry door and also install our Kohler shower door. Ryan provided us great service from beginning he communicated to us about our scope of work and also provided a very competitive rate. Because this was our entry door it was very important that the workmanship and quality was of a high-quality. Ryan was very friendly very trustworthy and most of all very professional. He arrived on time and cleaned up after working on both projects. Ultimately we ended up hiring Ryan for a second job my job which required a lot more labor-intensive work and a lot more detail this was the construction of our fence for our house. Again Ryan presented a price that was very competitive and work of high quality. From someone that has worked in project management of real estate/construction for over 10 years, I hold Ryan in high regard. Best of Luck with your business.

We hired Jesse to finish a covered patio - and a few other things such as resetting the front door and waterproofing around it. He did a quality job and his turn around was very quick. He is very responsive and always quickly returned calls /texts. It was very easy working with Jesse. Our project had different parts and Jesse was very responsive and quickly fixed a couple of details that we pointed out to him. Jesse is professional and also knowledgeable in what he does. He also tells you the pros and cons which was very helpful in deciding between our options. We are happy with the work that he did and will definitely hire him again.

I have had the pleasure of hiring Todd and Leann to fix various things around two homes that I own. They have installed a water heater, garbage disposals, kitchen sink, and fixed various items around my house like grout around a sink, slipping shower door, bad outlets, patch work on my front deck, etc. Every time I see them they are always very professional and friendly. The come with a happy-to-help attitude and don't make you feel dumb for not knowing how to fix the item yourself. Their rates are great and i'd highly recommend them to anyone who needs help around their house with a project big or small.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do I plan a bathroom remodeling project?

If you’re stumped on how to plan a bathroom remodeling project, it pays to hire a designer. This is especially important if you’re changing your bathroom layout in any way. Designers create contractor-friendly drawings indicating exactly where each tile and fixture will be installed, down to the light switches. This investment might cost you $300-$500 but save you significant frustration and miscommunication, while ensuring you get precisely what you want.

If you’re going to do your own design, planning a bathroom remodeling project means being organized and planning ahead. Create a general outline of what you want and the budget you have. Identify the specific fixtures, tiles, paint and vanity you prefer. Get all this organized before requesting quotes from two to three reputable general contractors. Once you find the right pro, get a written contract outlining scope of work, materials that will be used, timeframe and payment schedule. Communicate clearly about when to order your materials so they are ready and waiting by the time the contractor gets the permits. Your job from here is to communicate clearly, pay the contractor as the work progresses, and enjoy your remodel when it’s done.

Where should I start when remodeling a bathroom?

Bathroom remodeling doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Before starting a bathroom remodel it’s crucial to know what you want and have a clear understanding of your maximum budget. If you’d love all marble fixtures but have $3,000 total, you will have to compromise. Being realistic about materials and money before you even contact a contractor will have you on the road to success. Here are some simple steps to follow in the planning stages of bathroom remodeling:

    • List your remodeling priorities in order of importance (e.g., 1. New shower head, 2. Replace flooring, 3. Install recessed lighting, etc.).
    • Calculate what you can realistically afford to spend on your bathroom remodel. Identify an “all in” price — meaning the absolute maximum you’re willing to pay, as well as what you’d prefer to spend.
    • Gather ideas from Pinterest about colors and finishes.
    • Research the costs of the materials and finishes you want and begin making choices about what is and isn’t possible to fit into your budget (once labor is included). If you’d like to stay under $10,000 total, but really love a $2,000 tub, plan to downgrade in other areas.
    • Request quotes from at least three reputable general contractors, share your vision and ideal materials, and work together from there.

How long should a bathroom remodel take?

With proper planning and a good general contractor, your bathroom remodeling project doesn’t have to take forever. The construction phase of the project will always vary based on your scope of work, the square footage and the condition of your bathroom under the surface layer. Inevitably an 80-square-foot master bathroom with major changes will take longer than a 25-square-foot guest bath undergoing a minor renovation. For a smaller bathroom, a facelift — the industry term for sprucing up the surface layer (such as paint, vanity, tiles or light fixtures) but keeping the existing footprint of the space — may take five to eight working days, as long as there are no surprises like mold waiting when the old vanity comes out. A more complex bathroom remodel that revamps the shower area (customizing the plumbing, installing tile and changing the shower door), updates the flooring and cabinetry, and adds new paint and new lighting could take anywhere from one week to three weeks. A full bathroom remodel that guts the room, changing the footprint and moving the electrical wiring and plumbing lines, could take four to eight weeks or more. To keep your bathroom remodel on schedule, have your materials ordered and waiting, and don’t make any change orders once construction begins. Planning is key to keeping a bathroom remodel on schedule.

For more on how long a bathroom remodel should take check out The Complete Thumbtack Bathroom Remodel Guide.

How do I remodel my bathroom?

Bathroom remodeling is made up of three general phases. The first phase is the planning and permitting phase, in which you determine exactly what you want, what materials and finishes will be used, and what the end product will look like. If you’re competent with design you can handle the planning yourself, or you may hire an interior designer to guide you. During this phase you’ll also hire a general contractor who can help execute your remodel vision, coordinating and overseeing all the subcontractors required to do the bathroom remodeling (plumbers, flooring pros, etc.). When your plan is finalized, your contractor should obtain permits for the work you want done. During this time you’ll work together to order all the materials so they’ll be ready and waiting when it’s time to start construction.

The second phase is construction. Bathroom remodeling typically starts with demolition, removing the old floors, shower and vanity to make way for the new. Delays in delivery of materials, or changing your mind and ordering different materials halfway into the project, will mean that construction has to pause until the new materials arrive. Each subcontractor is dependent on the next to do their work, and the general contractor should keep things moving along at the proper timeline, ensuring that the right materials are available and dealing promptly with any unexpected repairs, such as damage discovered behind the walls or under the floor. The general contractor will also coordinate inspections from the necessary officials if you’ve moved load-bearing walls or done electrical or plumbing work. After construction is complete, the final phase of bathroom remodeling is addressing your punch list. These are all the items that need to be corrected before final payment is handed over to the contractor.

How much does it cost to remodel a bathroom?

Nationally, the average cost of bathroom remodeling is $14,000. Bathroom remodels can vary widely, from standard makeovers to luxurious master bathroom revamps. The factors that affect your bathroom remodeling cost are the finishes you choose (marble tiles can cost 20 times as much as standard subway tiles), the square footage of the project, regional labor rates in your area and the scope of work. Changing the layout or size of the bathroom will also raise costs. Moving electrical wiring and plumbing lines will also dramatically increase costs, as you’ll need to hire plumbers and electricians to handle the work. What’s happening behind your walls and under your floor will also affect bathroom remodeling cost: Rot, damage or mold can lead to additional work and charges. Overall, bathroom remodeling may offer great return on investment and also improve your daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom remodeling costs:

    • 6-foot by 6-foot bathroom remodel: $3,500, including labor and materials.
    • Standard renovation: $6,500-$10,000. Price includes labor and materials the customer has purchased. Labor may include taking out the shower and shower pan, installing new shower pan and shower, and installing new door, new vanity, new mirror, new bathroom fan, and all new fixtures.
      • Price variation depends on the quality of the finishes.
    • 10-foot by 6-foot bathroom remodel: $7,200, including labor and materials.
    • Mid-range renovation: $12,000-$15,000. Price includes labor and materials the customer has purchased.
    • Upscale renovation: $35,000 and up. Price includes labor and materials. Items might include digital displays for fixtures, multiple shower heads and custom showers.
