We have used Jewlie to petsit our two dogs for the past couple of years with confidence. She has emailed pictures to us while away, reassuring us our dogs were doing fine, as well as "pet sat" following one of our dogs having ACL surgery as well as being known to be temperamental. We have never found a door to be left unlocked when we've returned, or dogs to be without water, etc.

In this case, the pet sitting was in the form of companionship for a small free-range parrot and care for two overweight guinea pigs during a family trip abroad. Everyone appears to have emerged in fine shape without any glitches.

Laura is phenomenal. We had her house/pet sit for our two Boston Terriers who are both deaf. The older one needs eye meds every 3-4 hrs. We were gone for 11 days and not accessible unless a dire emergency. Laura sent regular emails keeping us updated on what they were doing and how things were going. She fully understood our anxiety in leaving them and did an outstanding job reassuring us. She left the house looking great and even had a pot of homemade soup waiting for us on our exhausting return in the middle of the night. She is such a caring and conscientious caregiver. She even gave us TWO meet and greet appointments prior. We highly recommend her services. She will be our "baby" sitter, for certain, in the future! Bob & Cindy and Bonnie & Gracie

Melody recently watched my two cats and she was amazing! We hadn’t been able to go on vacation since my cat was diagnosed with diabetes two years ago, and Melody went above and beyond all expectations. She took excellent care of both kitties and gave daily insulin injections to my diabetic cat. She sent many pictures throughout my trip and my pets loved her! I highly recommend hiring melody for pet sitting and I will definitely be going to her every time we will be out of town.

Jolene and her team of pet sitters provided wonderful care for our 3 pets (2 cats and a large dog). All of our communications were professional and it was obvious how much everyone at Sound Pet Eastside cares about animals. We were able to enjoy our family vacation so much more knowing our "children" were in such good hands. We'll definitely being using their services in the future.

While visiting “Paddywhack” pet store I stumbled upon a business card for Nanny Dolittle. I’d been looking for a pet-sitter or someone who can drop in on a long work day and tend to my pack. Some time went by and we adopted a fourth rescue dog. Adjustment periods for the dogs can take some time and extra tending to, so I decided to call the Nanny. We met, reviewed each dog in depth, my expectations for her visits, their expectations and then we created a visitation schedule on the spot. She left with a key to our home and has been coming regularly for over a year. Nanny Dolittle provides loving care to my dogs that desire it most and endless ball throwing for the other two. She knows exactly what each one needs and intuitively reads them when she visits. I know this because she leaves a note at the end of her visit that describes her stay and interactions with them. What she writes is exactly what we would have done for them had we been home. In addition, we notice the difference in their energy, happiness and general well-being on the days the Nanny has visited. She is reliable, flexible, trustworthy, accommodating, gentle, caring and provides exactly what she promises. We feel lucky to have her in our pack and the dogs are always excited when we leave for work with the parting words, “The Nanny will be visiting with you today, just rest until her arrival.” Rachael Millikan Beyond Barking Animal Communication www.beyondbarking.com

David and Lois, Just wanted to say how much I appreciate your willingness to be flexible and helping me out with my 2 dogs, Lucky and Rufio. It is challenging for someone like me who does not have a set schedule to find reliable and reasonable pet sitters. Not only are you professional and conscientious but kind and patient, especially when dealing with a hyper little dog like Ruffy. Thank you so much for the daily follow up and keeping me informed. I feel I can trust you with my home and my pets, who are really more like my children, and I would recommend you to anyone who needs your services. Thanks again. Sincerely, Amy

Some do this strictly for money, and they probably like animals as well. I am just trying to gain a little cash, spend some time with a pet, and be of service. Gosh that sounds corny, but I will be needing to now move back to Chicago after many years to help my older sister take care of her husband who is terminally ill. Sorry for the grim description, but I'm a lousy liar.

About

I have more than five years experience of having dogs and cats. I am patient. I am nice. I work full time at weekends. Feel free to contact me.

About

I take care of any animals you have. If you are going out of town and want your animal fed and bathed, then let me know. I would love to help.

About

My name is Jennifer and I independently own and operate Pup Strut. Unlike some other larger pet sitting and dog walking companies, you will know that I will be the only person entering your home and taking care of your pets. Pup Strut is licensed and insured. Excellent references are available upon request. You might find that Pup Strut has slightly lower rates compared to other similar pet care providers. This is because I work on the Eastside only. By keeping my driving to a minimum, I keep my costs down which keeps the rates low. I don't believe I need glossy advertising or to pay for expensive sponsorships to gain clients. While those things may look nice they are expensive and at the end of the day it's the clients that are paying for them through the higher rates.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

  • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
  • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
    • 45-minute visit: $28.
    • 60-minute visit: $32.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
    • 12 hours: $100.
    • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
