My daughter has had a couple lessons and it has gone very well. She has enjoyed learning to play the guitar and her instructor couldn't be nicer. The studio is setup very well, giving a nice area to sit while we wait for her.Aug 21, 2017Verified
Taking guitar lessons with Matt was a great experience. He had extraordinary patience with me as I slowly learned, and had great advice to encourage me through the process. Matt recognized when I wasnt grasping a concept, and used creative strategies to help me along. He is a very talented guitar player, and just as great of a teacher. I would highly recommend him.Mar 3, 2011
Very receptive to what I want to learn while still looking at key concepts as well. So far so good! Enjoyable lessons.Sep 18, 2019Verified

- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?Yes, I studied online with Berklee Music over 2010 and have found that to be incredibly beneficial for my own playing as well as answering questions from more advanced students. I also spent some time studying fingerstyle guitar with the Martin Taylor Guitar Academy during 2011 and found the material there to be complementary to my teaching methods. So far I've focused that study on playing techniques, as well as amplifier and effects settings- so it's exciting to be able to utilize newer technologies in my own study and apply that to how I interact in the studio. My goal is to keep investing in my knowledge about my craft and the products that support musical artistry. I appreciate the investment that parents and students make when they commit to a new skill, and its one of the ways that I show my support and respect in return.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?Really shop around. There are so many great guitarists and instructors in the Olympia area, and some of the most visible might not necessarily be the best fit for your own styles and musical goals. It's important to be able to connect with whoever you chose, as you'll be spending time with that person weekly. Communication skills are just as important as music skills; try to sit down and get to know your potential instructors well before you make any decisions. Ultimately, if you spend a bit of time with your selection process, you'll be able to rest easy and know for sure you have someone that will be a great fit for you and your family.
