I found myself with a sudden and very unexpected need for quotes for an inspection and treatment for a potential bed bug problem. Jim from Professional Pest Control Inc. responded almost immediately and offered to come out that very afternoon. I did not expect this immediate availability, but it was greatly appreciated, especially considering the problem I was concerned that I had. When he arrived, I found Jim to be extremely knowledgeable and courteous. He was able to begin to address the problem and reassure me that his methods would eliminate the issue. I also thought Jim's rates, which were many times lower than other pest control companies that responded, were fair for the services rendered. I would recommend Professional Pest Control and would call Jim again if I needed anything of this nature in the future.

Very professional and knew immediately what type of ants were crawling in my house. Sprayed around the house and set up bait traps. Will be back in 2 weeks for a follow-up to make sure they got them all. I'm impressed with work quality and how responsive they were. Definitely worth the cost, which is that bad! I'd recommend them to anyone having creepy crawly bugs where they don't belong!

Echelon showed up that day to verify what insect they were dealing with. Explained the preparation process, (which was very minimal). Showed up this morning to do the treatment! I could not be happier! Dead bugs everywhere! Our technician, Shane, was very knowledgeable and confident he could solve our problem. Awesome experience!

My oldest has drought home bed bugs 4 times. The first two times I called other companies and paid an insane amount, to get the problem sort of under control. The third time I got Robert, and he killed every last bug! We have had almost a year of no bed bugs anywhere. Now, my son has brought them back again and I am hiring Robert again. His price is lower than the other guys and he taught us, in a very respectful way, how to prevent future bugs. I was embarrassed about having bed bugs, but Robert helped me thru it. He even tried to teach my boy how to prevent bring them home in the first place, of course he didn't listen to Robert, and we are here again. Robert cares about his clients! If you have bed bugs get Robert to kill them all.

Luke is friendly, efficient, prompt, reasonably priced. He quickly took care of a rat problem. We have him spray for bugs every month and have not had a spider one in the house. I highly recommend him.

We pretty much freaked out when we found a bed bugs in our home and contacted a few companies right away to get estimates. Northwest K9 was an estimate in the middle (which we like), and several factors impressed us right away. Susan set up a phone call with me the day I asked for an estimate, and we spoke for about an hour (on a Sunday, on her own time, answered my many questions, freely offered knowledge and advice). No other company we contacted came close to their customer support, with no strings attached. They didn't require an inspection but trusted the photos I had, and went out of their way to schedule treatment on a day that worked for us. The technicians themselves were a few minutes early (called before they came), very friendly and professional, and took extra steps to safeguard our furniture during the heat treatment (it can cause ikea veneers to peel, they noted our ikea furniture and protected it with tape and more care from the heat when needed). We were warned that our home would look like a disaster zone when done since everything would be moved around (so the heat could penetrate everywhere), but they even took the extra time to move our furniture back into place. I do wish they had warned me about the dust they applied (it's a non-toxic longterm bedbug killer) . . . I knew it would be applied to all of the baseboards but didn't realize it would coat pretty much every surface in the house from being blown around by fans when cooling down the house. It dried out our skin (feet especially) for the first couple weeks after treatment while we got our house back in order (that's how it kills the bugs), and I wish I had known to be more careful and maybe worn shoes inside for a while. There is pretty massive inconvenience with any bed bug treatment from any company (moving most/all furniture, washing/drying tons of loads of laundry/bedding/textiles, vacuuming a million times...). Heat treatment is pricey anywhere, but the peace of mind was worth the cost to us. Susan and the technicians at Northwest K9 (I think their names were Darcy, James, and Gary?) made the experience as positive as possible. They were very attentive to detail, responsive, thorough, quality, and professional. I would highly recommend them.

Our inspections are conducted to meet or exceed the "standards of practice" as set forth by the State of Washington Department of Licensing (home inspections) and the Washington State Department of Agriculture (wood-destroying organism inspections). We strive to ensure that you (people), your children (families), and your investment (dream home) are on a solid foundation, safe from harm and protected for the future. We guarantee the quality of our work and fast results! In most instances, we will produce a computer-generated report (including color photographs) right on the spot. We will review your report with you to ensure you have an understanding of our findings and the condition of your home.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do pest control companies do?

Pest control companies handle all aspects of bug, rodent and animal extermination or removal. Pest control professionals visit your home or office to identify the type of pest that is troubling you and offer various treatment plans — complete with clearly outlined costs. Once you and the pest control company have a signed agreement, the pro will begin treatment. Pest treatment can range from the use of spray pesticides and gel bait to live and/or kill traps. There are a wide range of types of pesticides, many of them nontoxic for humans and other small animals. This means you may be able to have your home treated for pests without harming nearby wildlife or your dog and cat. The pest control pro will carry out the treatment plan and, depending on the service agreement, provide follow-up such as emptying traps, inspecting access points, or reapplying pesticide spray if the pests return. Costs will vary based on the type of pest you are having removed and the extent of the infestation. The average national pest control price range is $80-$130. From a minor bedbug event to an entire home termite infestation, pest control companies have got you covered.

How much does it cost to remove a mouse?

If you have a mouse in your house you’re probably quickly researching pest control costs. Mice, although tiny, can transmit diseases and also get into your food and leave unsanitary droppings around your home. If you have seen one mouse in your house, it’s likely that more have taken up residence in your crawl space, attic or basement. The national average pest control cost is $150-$200. Costs can vary depending on whether you need to get rid of a population of living mice or just dispose of a dead mouse (or full traps), how extensive the mouse population is, and where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pest control cost for removing a mouse:

    • $150 for initial trap setup and inspection (and sealing of entry holes).
      • $50 for rodent removal service calls and emptying of traps. This visit can also include identifying and sealing entry points that were not sealed on the first visit.
    • Rodent extermination: $110-$350, depending on how heavy the rodent population is, whether the mouse infestation poses health risks, how many entrances exist and how many rodent bait stations are needed.

How much does it cost to treat a house for termites?

Termites are not only creepy-crawly, they can literally eat your house out from underneath you. Termites feed on damp and dry wood and can chomp through your house at an alarming rate. The national average pest control cost for termite extermination is $240-$400. Treatment costs can be higher for an extensive infestation. Here are some examples of average pest control costs for termites:

    • Liquid treatment of subterranean termites: $3-$4 per linear foot.
      • For $75 per year, a company may offer a maintenance plan that provides inspection of the property and renewal of the warranty.
    • Liquid treatment of subterranean termites: approximately $400 for a 2,000-square-foot home at $3-$5 per linear foot.
      • The price is higher for additional work such as foaming and drilling inside of concrete slabs.
    • Fumigation treatment of drywood termites: $1,200-$1,500 for a 30,000- to 35,000-cubic-foot home
      • Fumigation is measured in cubic feet because it fills the airspace of the home and infiltrates the wood that the termites may be colonizing. The cost of fumigation is affected by the number of levels in the home as well as the square footage.

How much does it cost to get rid of cockroaches?

Cockroaches are not only ugly, they are difficult to get rid of. Quick and resilient, they can be hard to get rid of without professional help once they have inhabited a house. Nationally, the average range for cockroach pest control cost is $80-$130. Extermination professionals typically provide a free estimate to determine the extent of the infestation. They’ll check for the main sources of the bugs, identify bug access and entry points into your home, and determine the best method for elimination. There are a variety of cockroach extermination tools including gel baits and traps, pesticide foggers, desiccants (which dry out the cockroaches), neurotoxins, and other pesticides. Pest control costs can also cover preventive measures like regular spraying and trap maintenance. Some regions of the country are much more prone to cockroach problems than others, so pest control costs may need to be part of your quarterly budget. Cockroaches love dark, humid, and warm areas and water sources, so place traps near your washer and dryer and under your sinks.

How much does it cost to get a pest inspection?

In general there is no cost for a pest inspection. Exterminators typically provide a free property or building inspection and then provide you with a written estimate outlining the necessary treatment and cost. The home visit allows the exterminator to assess the problem and let you know what your pest control cost will be if you contract with their services. You may need a termite inspection for real estate purposes. This will be a verified inspection showing that the house in question is termite-free (often done before a sale). The inspection may cost a flat rate, such as $125-$150, depending on house size.

It’s hard to predict pest control costs sight unseen due to the variety of factors that go into pest treatment. For example, a bedbug problem for one customer may be confined to one room and be easy to access and treat in one visit if the room is clear of clutter and the bedbugs have been caught early. In another home, a bedbug problem may also be confined to one room, but there’s a great deal of clutter, providing more hiding places for the bugs and requiring more spray and labor for the exterminator, as well as many pieces of large furniture in the room that need to sprayed. Depending on the maturity of the infestation, a bedbug problem may require multiple visits to entirely eliminate. This is why many companies provide a free inspection to determine pest control costs and provide you the most accurate quote possible.
