Nolan was able to come to my house on the same day as my inquiry. I needed a new kitchen sink faucet installed to replace a broken one. I was able to disassemble the existing fixture but there was a particular rusted out bolt that I could not undo. Nolan came the next day and was able to remove the bolt and install the new plumbing fixture all under an hour. He is a professional and I enjoyed his method of working; I got a kick out of how he electronically documents the steps involved and posting on Instagram – modern day tech! I will definitely use his services again in the future and don’t hesitate to use him. Based on his cool website, I knew he was going to be a good choice!

I hired Stephen to install three exterior doors and then discovered he had many carpentry talents and kept him on for a variety of other jobs. He demonstrated significant knowledge of his trade and an ability to solve problems resulting in a very nice result. I do recommend him.

Although we resolved the appliance repair ourselves, for now, Conrad replied to our request in a timely and professional manner and provided a quote that offered good value.

I have never used Thumbtack before but was pleasantly surprised, not with the ease of making an appointment, but with Brian specifically. He is someone who inspires confidence — perhaps because he really seems to enjoy what he does. Communication was outstanding and much appreciated because my roof repair was such that I was not able to inspect it myself. Thank you, Brian!

Joe and the team did a great job. They were super responsive, and the work was well done. They went above and beyond, closing a trench they hadn't dug, and even installing an easy hook-up so I can install the appliances myself and not have to call them back.

Dennis replaced an under counter water heat for us in a rental condo. It was a bit of a tricky install because of how it was installed previously (15 years ago), but I was really appreciative that he made it work and was able figure out a solution. I’d definitely hire him again. Thanks Dennis!

I had some damage from a broken drain pipe. I had two cabinets that had to be torn out due to water damage. One cabinet had a lazy Susan in it. I had the face boards for Bob to install on the new cabinets. Bob did an excellent job on building the two cabinets. He came over with his assistant ( sorry I forgot what his name was). They worked great together and were vey intertaining. Both Bob and his helper were very professional. The cabinets look great and put together with quality. I would highly recommend Bob to anyone and I would use him again. He was honest and has integrity. He charged a reasonable price and showed up on time. Give Bob Chapman a call. He is a good man and does good work.

I hired Robert to do some repairs in my house before I put it on the market to sell it. Robert was able to make all the repairs I requested (mainly cosmetic) and I was very pleased with the end result. He is a quick, but thorough worker and charges a fair price! I would definitely hire Robert again!

Larry did a great job installing 2 kitchen sink drains, garbage disposal and a dishwasher. Our setup was a bit complicated, as we have pull out draws under sinks ( instead of regular doors) and Larry was able to hook up everything nicely in a tight space. Highly recommend!

In August 2012 Mike Kennedy gave me a written estimate of time and materials to replace hardware and repair damage to the wood on my front door and exterior trim. He completed the job in the estimated time and for the quoted price. I was satisfied with the results and will use him again.

Jeff has now completed multiple projects for us. We have had him repair water damaged dry wall, paint multiple rooms, install toilets and sinks, re-tile part of a shower, hang shower doors, and install canned lights. He is professional, courteous, and does excellent work.

We have worked with Chris off and on for years doing various projects for our rental properties and home I live in now. I have had him remodel kitchens, bathrooms, outside work which has included additions, fences, decks, rebuilding my garage, repaving my driveway, building a retaining wall, installing windows, doors, floors, fans, waterproofing, you name it he's done it for me including foreclosed properties. What I really like about this company is the rates are reasonable, hes a great listener and communicator and his wife helps him run the day to day operations with emails and office work so he's not so overworked. I have hired contractors in the past that have came in demoed the job, demand more money or they disappear. Chris has either asked for a deposit and paid as work has progressed, paid hourly and than paid weekly, or what have you. Even if something did interfere with being on that job daily, he always has told me via email or called and he always keeps me updated on how things are going or if there were extra costs involved, we were notified immediately. I think most contractors try to do the work, the estimates, get materials, do the office work by themselves and i think it gets them into trouble not being able to be at three places at once so they do really well. The only complaint i have is he might show up late once in awhile but I know running a company isn't easy, I am self employed as well. I highly recommend him and his company to do remodeling and repairs. Very professional and they fix any work that has been paid for or charged for free. I have never had an issue getting him back out here to fix something that I wanted done differently or organically didn't stay put. I am avaliable for personal referrals.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

  • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
  • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
  • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.
