Very happy with the work Bixno did on our home. We had an odd range of projects that they tackled quickly and effectively. Nolan was very easy to work with — he was responsive and transparent throughout. He and Tim arrived on time and completed all the work quickly. They were professional, courteous and kind while in our home and we are very happy with the results. Would absolutely hire them again.

Working with Tyler made a horrible situation into an easy solution. I work for a company out in Detroit who sells SiriusXM for business subscriptions to people all over the nation. We needed an installer for a client and no one wanted to do this (client was located on an Island and the cheapest we could pay someone to look at it was $300) then I found Tyler. Tyler not one went out there to do the bid for free, he was also fair with his pricing and his work was perfect. I used to be a field technician for home/business automation along with high end home theater equipment. My biggest rules when it comes to this is (1.Everything works great according to the client and 2.The install has to look clean, even if the client will never see it, the wires and everything has to look like it's going on display) I didn't even have to say this to Tyler. I know because this is a guy who takes pride in his work. Does it in a timely manner but doesn't rush. I wish there were more techs like him out there.

Abel Mack helped us with a few different jobs including fixing a shattered cement front step - removing it and weatherproofing/painting the new step and deck so that it wouldn't crumble like the last one. He is both efficient/productive but also thorough and attentive to detail. He is super knowledgeable and explains everything he's doing and why he's doing it. It's obvious he treats our home the way he would want things done. We're very happy with him and The Handyman Seattle and plan to use them again!

My husband and I couldn't have imagined how wonderful the job TJ and Marvin did for us!! We hired them to - pretty much gut our backyard and deck - remodeling everything for us. They treated or job as if it was their own home. It was so much more than what we hoped for. I would - in a heartbeat - recommend them to anyone. The beautiful work they did for us will be enjoyed for years to come. They leveled our backyard, planted new sod, installed all new fencing, built patio with a fire pit. They tore down and built a new, enlarged deck that wraps around the side of our house. They took out our bedroom window and installed sliding doors to the new deck which looks out onto a beautiful wetland. They installed a new ceiling fan. When we moved into our house 5 years ago, our furnace was in one of our bathrooms. Due to the design of the bathroom, there was no way to cover the opening to the furnace - leaving it an eye sore. They took our the door to the bathroom and installed a smaller door - leaving them room to install a beautiful - barn door style door - closing the opening to the furnace. In the future, any remodeling to our home will be easy, all we'll do is call TJ and Marvin!! If I could, I'd give them 6 plus stars!!

Gary and his team did an excellent job on multiple electrical jobs throughout our home (data jacks, smart switches, ceiling fan and light fixture replacement, etc.). They were thorough, exacting and fast; explaining every detail as they went along. They isolated and described the effects of a deficiency in the home's original wiring and options for fixing it. Gary also spent the time to discuss what it would take to add a whole house generator when we add a future freestanding RV garage; including the relocation of the electric meter, and house electric and propane hook-ups. We will surely use Parker Bros Electric again!

The job was a tricky, high roofing job. He not only completed the job to my satisfaction, but did a couple of things beyond my expectations and included them in the job. The work was done within the necessary time period, clean up was completed on schedule and within budget. There were no extra costs. James Luster was great to work with, and instead of finding reasons why something could not be done, he figured out ways to do it. Safety of his men was always a consideration, as was his concern for our house. The people he employed were experienced, knew their job and were respectful of our home. I would heartily recommend Dog Construction. Peter D.Snow

Working with 3D Contracting and Construction turned out to be a blessing. The owner Daniel J. Was extremely knowledgeable when it came to product and material selection and really helped us get the most out of the budget we set. Always kind and considerate, extremely punctual and professional. I couldn’t be happier with the full kitchen and bathroom remodel they completed to our home. We’re currently putting together funding to add an addition to our home and will definitely be contracting 3D Contracting and Construction to complete the work! Awesome job guys!!!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who wall mounts TVs?

Electricians, handymen and TV installation specialists may all provide television mounting services. The person who does the mounting should be qualified and knowledgeable about basic construction concepts as well as working with audiovisual cables. In general, no specialized certificates are required to provide television mounting services, but as always do your diligence and make smart hiring decisions.

It’s important to find an experienced professional who will ensure the TV wall mount meets building code. Most regions have fire codes that don’t permit high-voltage power cords behind walls (low-voltage wires like HDMI and video cables are generally acceptable). A basic wall mount on drywall may take approximately one to two hours, while more complex mounts on brick or stone with hidden cables can take three or more hours. If you need more electrical outlets installed near your entertainment system, you may want to hire an electrician. Check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to mount a TV?

Elevate your home style with television mounting services. The national average price for television mounting services ranges between $100 and $130. Factors that can affect cost are the material of the wall you want the TV mounted on, whether you want the wires hidden, and any additional entertainment system connection you desire. It probably costs more to mount a TV on brick, stone or concrete than on drywall or plaster due to the added labor required to drill holes. For example, a company may charge an additional $99 to mount a TV on a brick wall. Here are some examples of average costs for television mounting services:

  • Basic TV wall mount: $40. Does not include bracket, device connection or strip management.
  • TV wall mount: $119. Includes bracket, mounting services, strip management system (for concealing external wires), and connection of all entertainment devices.
  • TV wall mount with wires hidden inside wall: $139.
  • Installation of additional electrical outlet: $65.
  • TV wall mount over fireplace with wires hidden: $179-$249.
  • TV wall mount and up to 5 speakers wall-mounted with hidden wires: $399.

Can a TV be mounted above a fireplace?

You may be able to mount your flat screen TV above your fireplace for a more streamlined look in your living room. In fact, TV mounting professionals can hang your flat screen TV flush with a wall or from a tilting or full-motion bracket mount in any room in your home. A tilting or full-motion mount may be the best option above a fireplace so you can tilt the TV down for the best viewing angle. Whether the wall above your fireplace is brick, drywall, concrete, stone or plaster, most television mounting services can accommodate your needs. Hardier wall surfaces like concrete or brick will require more labor and expertise to mount, and will likely have a higher price range.

If you want your AV and cable wires hidden in the wall, you will also pay a higher price due to the added time and skill to properly drill the holes and run wires. Before mounting your TV above your fireplace, consult with the manufacturer about necessary distance from heat sources. If the space above your fireplace gets too warm, another location could be better for the longevity of your TV. Your television mounting services may take between one and two hours, or more depending on your home theater setup.

How much does it cost for surround sound installation?

If you’re installing your dream home theater, you want the perfect sound system to round it out. The cost for surround sound installation will vary based on the speaker system you select, the amount of wiring and prep required for the job, and labor rates in your region. Home theater installation specialists can advise on the best surround sound speakers for your space and the technology you are using. Here are some examples of average home theater installation costs and the cost of surround sound speakers:

  • TV wall mount and up to 5 wall-mounted speakers with hidden wires: $399.
  • 60-inch TV and small home system: $2,080.
    • Equipment cost: $1,680.
      • Five box speakers and subwoofer: $500.
      • Three HDMI wires: $30.
      • Surround amp: $250.
      • 60-inch TV and bracket: $900.
      • Labor cost: $400 Including setup, wiring and TV mounting.
  • Projector and screen system plus audio wiring throughout home: $12,900.
    • Equipment cost: $9,900.
      • Approximate wire costs: $2,700.
      • Projector and bracket: $1,500.
      • 110-inch screen: $600.
      • Surround amp: $500.
      • 5-inch ceiling speakers and sub: $1,400.
      • Remote control system: $400.
      • Eight zones of speakers and volume controls: $2,800 ($350 each)
      • Labor cost: $3,000. Includes prewiring for 5-inch ceiling speakers, one subwoofer, one 20-inch to 50-inch HDMI, Cat. 6 control wire to projector, 1.5-inch tube for future wire changes, and wiring for two to eight additional audio zones throughout the home. All equipment (audio boxes, amps, cable box, etc.) is concealed. The audio zones are controllable by iOS devices from anywhere in the home.
