I've been riding here for close to 6 years steadily and there was about a year before that where I came and did trail rides and the odd lesson. For most of those years I've ridden with Markelle and she is incredible. She has all the patience and good will to work with new, inexperienced riders and take them to becoming capable riders with a good foundation in all parts of riding and understanding the horse. I started out a western rider who was truly terrible at english but she's made me into a confident eventer who is now riding and partly training horses for her and an owner at the barn. Saddle Rock is a great place for any rider of any skill level. Jordan, Markelle's older sister, is more experienced and competes regularly in Olympic level competitions so she knows how to train champions and she's really good at pushing the rider. She's not as good with new riders because she's very go go go and doesn't work with new riders anymore. They either go to Nicolette who is amazing for young riders or to Markelle and they stay with her because Markelle is the type of trainer you grow up with in riding. Markelle is more laid back but don't mistake that for lack of skill in teaching, she just knows when to push and when it's enough. I learn more from her every lesson and am totally grateful for my years at Saddle Rock Stables with Markelle and Jordan. The facility is also super nice and we have both an indoor arena where we do more of the dressage and a large outdoor arena with lots of varied types of jumps for practicing showjumping. For cross country we go to other facilities that have a cross country course as we do not have one. The barn is also located in a large horsey neighborhood so we can go on trailrides in the summer and they are the best. Saddle Rock is truly a special place and I would rather ride here than almost anywhere else.

I personally take lessons from Markelle and I couldn't ask for better!!!!! She is patient and chill but don't think that is laziness, she will teach/push you to do things and that is really good. I have been riding with her for about a year and a half but when I came I could barely trot(that's right capstone you didn't teach me worth crap) and now I have been to a one-day!!! She is better than any other trainer because she has done every thing someone needs her to do(she has gone down to Oregon to look at a horse with me!!!!!!)!!!!!!!!!! She is the best person/trainer ever!!!! - Lex

FAQs

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

When looking for a riding instructor look at their qualifications with the USEA or USEF and other professional equestrian associations. Riders who are the top riders in these associations will be the best instructors. The riders who compete at these high levels have many years of professional instructions themselves and the knowledge to teach what they have learned.
