Taking music lessons as an adult, i largely expected to feel the way i did taking lessons as a child. I never would have expected to learn everything from basic theory and technique to being able to compose pieces for multiple instruments within a month. Scott's approach is professional and relatable which is rare in a music teacher of his pedigree. I'am afforded an opportunity to grow as a complete musician with his ability to take daunting musical concepts and make them immediately understandable to a layman. I really do believe that whatever your musical goals are, he is a more than capable teacher. Its also worth noting that whenever i have had any questions throughout the week, he has taken the time to respond at length.

I've had about 6 lessons with Mary on guitar and have thoroughly enjoyed them. She has a great eye for details in technique thats very important in a guitar teacher to keep you on track. I also like the way she builds the skills on top of each other while not trying to do this be repeating the same song until perfect. This is an excellent way to keep the student engaged while building the technique that will be needed. I also like that she is not locked in to a particular dogma. For example, I'm a pretty large person and we needed to adjust my posture from the standard classical guitar posture. She was able to articulate the general principles that one wants to achieve in their posture and use those principles to help me find a posture that works for my body type. In summary. I would gladly recommend Mary to friends wanting to learn classical guitar.

I was sent Brad Mar for my piano lessons, and he's AMAZING. Great guy, lets the lessons flow at a natural pace, and he goes above and beyond getting learning material into your hands. This has been worth every penny and I can't stress enough how valuable this has been for my musicianship. You all rock!

Ken is a fantastic teacher with tons of experience and a great attitude. I've been learning guitar from him for many years, and hope to continue for years to come! Whether you're a complete beginner (as I was) or a seasoned player interested in learning more music theory or refining your technique, he's a great coach and always has interesting lesson material. The lesson space is comfortable and you'll be treated to professional quality sound during your lessons.

I really enjoy music lessons with Jacob, I've had several teachers and he is by far the easiest to work with and to learn from. He's a great guitar player and keeps the lessons fun, he also does a good job at making sure that what I'm practicing has something to do with what I'm interested in. I've had teachers in the past that did not make guitar interesting, Jacob is great, well worth the money! I'm much better than I was before I started with him.

My daughter has only had two lessons with Aaron, so I do not have a long term relationship to base my review on. However, I can say that Aaron was very prompt at returning my emails and phone calls . Very professional in how he approached making financial arrangements and scheduling our lessons. He provided references for me to check with. He offered a complementary initial lesson. And perhaps most important, when I pick up my daughter from her lesson she has a smile on her face and says Aaron is very nice.

We’ve known Mariya for many years – since 1998, when we moved to the Seattle area and began to look for a piano teacher for our then 14-year-old daughter. We were lucky to have found Mariya. From our first meeting we could see that she was a passionate and dedicated pedagogue and that she was the right teacher for our daughter. Generous both with the time she devoted and the incredible knowledge she shared, Mariya adapted a very thorough and nurturing teaching approach that inspired our daughter and allowed her to continually grow and progress. It was an incredible 4-year journey – through hours of lessons and countless performances our daughter conquered many beautiful and increasingly difficult pieces, developed the ability to hear and produce very specific sounds at the instrument, and began to uncover her own artistic voice. The incredible progress was evident simply because after only one year with Mariya as her teacher, our daughter went on to win the MTNA-Baldwin Piano Competition at both WA State and NW Division levels. Studying with Mariya helped our daughter to make the decision to become a professional musician. She went on to receive her BM and MM degrees from the Eastman School of Music and ultimately became a successful pianist and vocal coach, working at international and regional opera houses across US and Canada. Currently she is the Principal Coach and Music Administrator with Pacific Opera Victoria. As parents, we like that we can talk with Mariya as she is a very good communicator. She finds and creates many performing opportunities for her students and always encourages them to express themselves musically and artistically. Mariya has a fantastic educational background and can help one develop not only a solid piano technique and discerning musical taste but also an in-depth knowledge and understanding of musical styles, music theory and history.

I have had 3 children take lessons with Little Bird Piano. From a 2 year old to a 13 year old. My children have loved the lessons, the challenge. They have improved so much. Their skills are far above others. I love the personal attention, the willingness to help them find songs they want to play. Even my baby who tagged along to the little class - picked up songs, hand motions and still sings them a year later. From piano to voice to babies to adults, you will get excellent instruction with Holly.

I've always wanted to take voice lessons but I never gathered enough courage to actually do it. I decided to give Maddy a chance and since starting a few months ago I'd say my confidence has tripled. I'd recommend her to anyone!

My kids, ages 8 and 9, smile when Hyemi arrives and seem to enjoy every moment with her. They are learning so much but don't even notice the work of it, as Shen meets them where they're at and inspires their excitement about the music. We treasure Hyemi and her piano instruction! She also takes great joy in the work. It shows.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is CPR training?

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (better known as CPR) is a lifesaving manual technique that pumps oxygenated blood back into the body’s organs if someone’s heart or breathing has stopped. A variety of CPR training is available to community members, employees and healthcare providers. CPR training may last two to five hours or more, depending on the content and the target audience. During the training, students will learn how to recognize and respond to an emergency situation. There are different CPR techniques for adults and children, but with both you will learn how to determine whether the person is conscious before administering chest compression. During the training you’ll learn chest compression techniques for adults and different techniques for children between the ages of 1 and 8. Students learn how to properly administer chest compressions, when the technique is appropriate and when it is not, and how long you must perform rescue measures. Students also learn what an automatic external defibrillator (AED) is and how to use it if necessary to shock a patient before administering CPR chest compressions.

How do I become CPR and first aid certified?

You can earn CPR training and receive first aid certification in a number of ways. Choose an online course to learn the materials remotely and then find a testing location to complete the certification process with an in-person demonstration of your knowledge and skills. Encourage your workplace to host a first aid and CPR training so employees can learn what to do in case of a workplace emergency and how to respond with lifesaving techniques. You may also be able to take a CPR or first aid class in your community. A basic CPR training may run four to five hours. After receiving CPR training, you’ll know how to respond if an adult or a child goes into cardiac arrest or stops breathing. You’ll learn how to use chest compressions to keep blood pumping to a person’s organs, which can keep them alive until an emergency responder can arrive. First aid and CPR training can also include education about how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED).

What does a Spanish tutor do?

The goal of a Spanish tutor is to help students improve their Spanish reading, writing, comprehension, and conversation skills. The tutor’s approaches may vary, depending on whether the instruction is individual or a group class. Many Spanish tutors practice immersion — meaning they will speak only Spanish with their pupils. For students with little to no Spanish experience, the Spanish tutor may use a mix of Spanish and English to accustom their students to speaking the language.

A Spanish tutor can offer a wide range of services to their students. For students currently enrolled in a Spanish class through their middle school or high school, a Spanish tutor can help them with homework and language practice, as well as expanding their understanding of their current school curriculum. For adults, Spanish tutors will have different approaches based on that student’s need. Academics and those seeking high-level professional development for their career will often have more intensive and targeted lessons, drills, and interactive speaking tests. For adults who wish to learn conversational Spanish for fun or for travel, lessons may revolve around learning commonly used phrases and practicing speaking in relaxed settings.

What is first aid training?

With first aid training, you may be able to help save a life. First aid training can teach people who are not medical professionals how to help a sick or injured person in crisis before an ambulance arrives on the scene. Most commonly, first aid training helps teach you how to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use automated external defibrillators (AEDs).

First aid training can teach you how to respond in a variety of emergency situations, including:

  • Asthma attack
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Burns
  • Choking
  • Diabetic emergencies
  • External bleeding
  • Heart attack
  • Poisoning
  • Neck, head or back injury
  • Stroke
  • Seizure

First aid training classes may be offered by professionals who are affiliated with the Red Cross, which offers online, in-person, and blended training classes. First aid classes are also often offered through local recreation centers, city services, schools, hospitals and private companies.

What do you learn in a first aid course?

First aid training gives you a variety of lifesaving skills for responding to many different emergency situations. In a first aid course you’ll learn about how to examine someone who’s been hurt, how to use a defibrillator, how to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and how to control bleeding and trauma. Some courses include pediatric first aid as well as adult first aid; helping a choking infant, for example, is different from helping a choking adult. Although you can take CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) courses separately, most first aid training includes both.

In a first aid course you’ll also learn how to respond to:

  • Wounds, including punctures, cuts and hemorrhages
  • Heart attacks, chest pain and respiratory arrest
  • Bone fractures, sprains and torn muscles
  • First-, second- and third-degree burns
  • Poisoning
  • Choking
  • Bites and stings
  • Hypothermia or frostbite
  • Shock and seizures
