Excellent work! He communicated and arrived in a timely way and fixed the problem for half the price we had to pay a name brand company a year earlier for unclogging a drain. Thanks!

Thank you for coming so quickly, and for going above and beyond my expectations to fix my plumbing! The sink looks great and I'm very grateful to you for installing it, even though it was tricky. And thank you for the drain! I would highly recommend Robert to anyone looking for a solid job well done and quickly. He and his colleague added a few extras AND gave me a veterans' discount! Wow!

I am Extremely Happy with my experience with Nick. He was professional and efficient. I was inquiring about a toilet leak, kitchen sink leak and clogged shower drain. Nick was at my house and completed the jobs within an hour. I will definitely keep his number for future projects.

We recently had our garbage disposal removed as we prefer a drain system without it. We hired Gil using thumbtack. He was quick to respond, and then seamlessly scheduled an appointment for the next day. He arrived on time, assessed the under sink situation, and gave us an accurate quote to remove the old disposal and re-plumb all the piping. In addition he walked us through what we would need in the future for a new water heater installation. We will definitely hire Gil again in the future.

My kitchen sink got clogged up and drains slowly, and all that was needed was to use a rooter drain cleaner to pipe in a snake to clear it up.

Living in an old (1909) multi-unit dwelling, where each unit is individually owned, has atypical problems, like mine. I thought I had a straight-forward issue of a stuck drain. It wasn't the case but Jason's skill and experience helped figure out what the odd problem was. What should have been simple, was not. He stuck it out, with patience and curiosity-- and he was informative to boot! I would and will hire Jason again if and when I have need of plumbing services again. I don't think you can go wrong with him. Kerry Quirk Seattle

Roberto is phenomenal. I had a clogged shower drain which he took care of within 20 minutes at a price that was less than half of what everyone else was quoting me. He's a great guy and has my highest recommendation. He's definitely going to be my go-to guy.

I had an excellent experience with Darren from Treharne Plumbing. I need to upgrade my drain lines for a remodel and moving the kitchen sink and clothes water onto the bathroom drain system. The drain consisted of cast iron and galvinized pipe. I thought that the 4" Cast Iron was going to have to be modified but Darren thought we could get by and upgrade the galvinized pipe to 2" ABS and pulled out his code book that he had in the truck to verify. Several other plumbers that came over to bid on my project came the same conclusion which saved me alot of money in plumbing cost. Darren gave me a bid the next day and after all of the bids were in, his was the lowest and but also complete with no lose ends. I schedule Darren to come out several weeks later as i was replacing the water lines myself and needed to get some work done before replacing the drain lines. Darren called to say he was going to be an hour late, which I could understand as it was snowing outside. Once he arrived he went quickly to work getting all the parts in place. I needed to leave to do some shopping and he took a break to pull a permit before he started the actual work. When I came back home, he was waiting for me and let me know that the city let him put his work on my water line permit and saved me another $134 in permitting fees. He finished the rough-in in about 4 hours and filled the system and notifed the city for inspection the next day. The inspector showed up the next morning and everything passed inspection and I called Darren to scheduled him to finish the project. He said he was near by and would be over in 30 minutes to complete the project. He was over on time and connected everything and all was my plumbing was funtional a little over 24 hours after he started. I am very happy with Darren from Treharne Plumbing and will ask him to bid on other projects I have in the future.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What are plumbers and what do they do?

Plumbers are skilled professionals who are trained to install and maintain pipes and systems for drinking water, sewage and drainage. They usually have trained through four- to five-year training programs, which include apprenticeships, via trade schools and community colleges. Plumbers’ areas of expertise typically go beyond pipes to include mathematics, blueprint reading, plumbing codes and water distribution. They handle plumbing emergencies, such as broken pipes or clogged drains, and install and maintain everything from a new piping system to a replacement faucet. Plumbers also know how to install bathtubs and showers, toilets, water heaters and dishwashers. Plumbers may work on residential or commercial sites, sometimes designing and laying out a pipe system during construction.

How do you find a good plumber?

Whether you need a plumber to perform drain repair, install a new fixture, or replace rusty pipes, you need to make sure you hire someone reliable who will finish your job on time and within budget. Start by asking the plumbers on your short list these questions:

  • What is the total cost? Make sure your estimate includes materials and labor. Find out whether the plumber will be providing the materials and whether you’re being charged an hourly rate (which is variable) or a flat fee.
  • Is removal and cleanup included in the job? Some plumbers leave behind old parts, while others include the cleanup in the cost.
  • Is the work guaranteed? Find out whether the work (as well as the parts or fixtures) are guaranteed under a warranty.

Follow these additional tips for confidently hiring a plumber or other skilled professional.
