Hired on Thumbtack

What most impressed me about this company is right in its name: Complete. Chuck and his crew were able to deal with whatever problems came along, whether they had been anticipated or not. I hired him to replace old siding on my home, and in the process he found sections of rotten wall (which he tore out and rebuilt), a chimney clogged with soot (which he cleaned), broken trim pieces (which he had fabricated and replaced), and all the new siding was pre-painted, then painted again in place (no need to hire a painter) – to name a few. He is the most knowledgeable person I’ve ever hired. We trusted his judgment on all things and he required no supervision. His crew are competent, hard-working, and on-time, the job site was picked up at the end of every day, and the work was completed in a timely manner in spite of horrible cold and rainy weather. I would recommend Chuck Lundberg and Complete Construction Services with no reservations.

Chuck was very responsive at the beginning. Then, as usual, I had to follow up to get an estimate and an ETA as he didn't follow through. Then I got a professional itemized quote but I had questions as he didn't include the fence part of the project I requested and then added $8,000 of labor without explaining how long the project would take. I requested additional information from him, which is my right as a customer in order to make an informed decision and this is the answer I got (copying the emails I sent and received as they are - only removing my email and last name). You can make your own decision on whether or not you want to work with Chuck. I'll definitely not considering him for any future projects as we all deserve to be treated as valuable customers. If I'd treat my customers this way if be out of business. I'm not saying you need to lower your standards, just asking for an estimate on how many hours the project will take so I can make an informed decision as a customer. Seems like your message is just conveying that or I take your price or good luck to me. Hope I'm misreading this - as a customer I deserve for my questions to be answered. That's what any customer would expect. I have a standard that is much higher than most... that's why I have the repeat business and the awards to back it up. Best of luck my friend and I hope you have a great summer. Does this include the 70 ft fence to cover or just the deck? $8,000 just in labor is pretty high so I'd like a breakdown of this item per hour so I know how many hours you're estimating for the project. I have quotes much lower from other companies with the same exact materials. I want to make a decision next week so look forward to getting this information. Hello Luis I see your point of view and it appears you are not getting all my emails. Please see below my past responses that did include the answers to your questions. Take care and have a great summer Sincerely Chuck Lundberg Chuck Lundberg Luis When I say our standards are higher than the norm we take the extra steps to make a nice, long lasting product. For example we don't surface mount the 4" X 4" post, we sandwich our post inside the joist and then rabbit cut it against the rim-joist. This with the combination of bolts and glue it doesn't move ever... three years later your handrails will still be strong. Also we don't gun nail anything, we have guns but use them on decks. When they gun nail wood it leaves a hole for water to get in, not good. We also compound miter the top cap rail and glue them, then set it with screws... to top it all off, we come back and sand the railing. Only top notch crews does that. As a Property Manager for homes and condos over 16yrs, I have worked with hundreds of vendors. Some expensive other inexpensive. Some with large companies, some small. In these years I have never experienced the condensing behavior such as Chuck. Even knowing my line of business and that a lot more work could have come from my business. We are doing a large house remodel. I needed him, his crew or whomever he was sending out I wasn't sure, to demo 3 bath tile floors and install new tile already onsite. Things change, contractors may or may not finish in time. I was being responsible and told Chuck the day before he arrived how the job changed. Of course that is not the best scenario, but it was completely out of my control. Not only did he say he didn't want the job anymore, but continued to lecture me about how much pay he receives, in detail and how little he would make. Also a lecture on me about changing the work. Seriously!? I didn't know how much he was charging for the job and I just found out that minute that my contractor needed him 2 days later for the rest. I received more detail about his pay than I could ever get about how much I would be paying him. He made jokes about "not enough" or "he's too cheap" but I was going in blind not knowing how much his bill would be after asking how much is the job going to cost? His hourly charge was as far as I got. Not really, times that by 2 for 2 guys. Who know how long? No idea? Which made me question how much work to have him do, but I know how much he makes and his "burden" to his employees. I am so offended by Chuck. He doesn't know me but is confident to lecture me and cancel at the last minute. This is unacceptable! Never in my 16yrs have I ever been treated so poorly by a contractor. I'm disgusted. I had already added your services to my Property Management website, emailed all the PMs in my office. Now they will here the true side of Chuck!

Dear All: In response to Christy Rice’s Thumbtack, I will lay out the facts since she didn’t. Attached are The emails between the two of us. Please keep in mind we have never met and her letter stems from my refusal to work for her. I was contacted by Christy on August 12, 2015 morning. I informed her at that time of my Charges. My charges did not come as a surprise to her 11 days later unless she doesn’t read. The nature of the work that was requested was kitchen cork hardwood floors. There was no mention of bathrooms. On August 15, 2016 I was informed by Christy that she hired someone else and that I was not needed. After five days, on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at 10:25 pm she sent me a new proposal to demo and tile 2 bath room floors and tile the floor and wall in a new bathroom that didn’t exist. I was out of town camping and I got back to her after the weekend. On August 22, 2016 at 2:47 pm we discussed the proposed work and I again stated how much it would cost. On August 23, 2016 at 8:57 pm, Christy made a new proposal which called for tiling on bath room floor. At 9:37 pm, I rejected her offer. Mind you, this new proposal came late Tuesday night and she wanted completed Friday. Throughout the entire course of our conversations there was never a meeting of the minds which would form a contract. The scope of work was never agreed upon due to the fact that Christy kept changing her mind. Even if you could consider the formation of a contract to the kitchen work and the work on the three bathrooms, her new proposal of one bathroom would not only be a breach of the prior “contracts”, but it was a new offer which had to be accepted. As a realtor of 16 years, Christy is well aware that to form a contract, there must be an offer, an acceptance of that offer and consideration. I never accepted any of her offers, least of all the offer to tile one Bathroom floor. They won't be able to finish! Still have an opening next week? Demo & Tile 2 bath floors + new floor tile and mosaic wall in new bath. Needs to be done by Friday. Grrr This email doesn’t make sense…. I don’t know who they are, perhaps the contractor that Christy had the falling out with. The following Monday Christy called me and told me about the problems she encountered and requested the email above. From: Christy Rice Date: 8/23/16 8:57 PM (GMT-08:00) To: chucklundberg@ymail.com Subject: RE: Chuck Lundberg of Complete Construction Services sent you a message Hey Chuck. At 55/hr each for 2 guys I'll only have enough for 1 bath. So let's just do the master bath tomorrow. It's already demoed and baseboards pulled. At this point, the scope of work has changed 3 times and there were too many Red flags with her none-licensed worker. I was also told that Christy pulled the permits herself to avoid needing to hire real contractors. I want to stay as far away from that type of behavior as possible. -----Original Message----- From: chucklundberg [chucklundberg@ymail.com] Received: Tuesday, 23 Aug 2016, 9:37PM To: Christy Rice [christy@christyricepm.com] Subject: RE: Chuck Lundberg of Complete Construction Services sent you a message HI The new scope of work is now too small and will not work for us. They didn't really know how to fix this job. And the guy didn't tell me he had a two hour minimum until he got here. That should be in his pricing.

Dear All The problem as it was explained to me from the client that he needed two hose-bibs that were leaking and needed to be replaced. I bid the work at $150 dollars each, so there was no need to discus the Min because it was much more than a two hour project. After we arrived at his home he decided just to have them repaired and not replaced, so the cost was much less (less than $100) two workers, for two hours for less than $100 and I bought the parts. I have contacted the owner and asked what I can do to make him happy, so all I can do is try. Thank you Chuck
