Introduction: Over the past eleven years, Scott has enjoyed an active career as a performer, composer, accompanist, and instructor. The diversity of both his educational and professional experience have left him well versed in a wide variety of musical settings. Though Scott's first love is jazz and blues guitar, he also has had the opportunity to play with a number of Northwest based rock and indie groups as well as to compose and accompany for the Seattle dance community and the James Knapp Orchestra. As a young musician, Scott was hired to play in the pit orchestra for Stage Door to the Future, a theatre program for youth with Eastern Washington University's theater department. Scott studied composition and music theory at the University of Oregon (Eugene, OR) where he also became well versed in ear training. He later transferred to Cornish College of the Arts where he completed his BFA in performance. Scott has recently founded the group Soul Trauma, an original rhythm and blues group that debuts his role as a lead vocalist. His wide range of experience has left him with great appreciation for many different styles and disciplines. Scott has worked extensively with students of all ages as a freelance guitar instructor; a substitute teacher at Discovery School, a K through 6th grade institution (Spokane, WA); and as a guitar instructor at Musical Mind Studio (Mercer Island, WA). Watching his students progress over time and find themselves in their instruments is one of Scott's great loves. As a teacher, he constantly strives for a one-on-one relationship with each student, always searching where his experience and skills can best serve the individual. Above all, Scott has a great passion for his craft, and he hopes to share his experience with many others. I look forward to working with you! Scott Williams

FAQs

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

I specialize in individualized Instruction on guitar, piano, music theory, voice and song writing. I have worked extensively with children who are picking up an instrument for the first time. I also work with students with a lot of musical experience who want to polish up their skills and get their ducks in a row for college auditions, entrance exams, and give themselves a leg-up when taking the step into a conservatory or professional setting. The vast majority of my work is done with regular weekly students who study with me over a long period of time. For younger students I also offer general music lessons that focus on getting children into the basic building blocks of music they will need. In these general music lessons we work a lot with rhythm and use singing, drums, guitars, and the piano to give the child a variety of experience and spark there curiosity. I also work with several older students who are playing for the first time. I enjoy working with all age and skill levels and understand that there is not a one size fits all method for teaching music. The vast majority of my work is done from my studio on Mercer Island and my home studio in West Seattle.
