I shopped several places before discovering Seattle Guitar Mentor. Awesome place to learn guitar! I've been taking lessons here since June 2016 and I'm having a blast! My son saw how much fun I was having with it and started taking lessons a couple months after me! Ryan is a great instructor/mentor and really cares about each student. A true professional with a real understanding of instruction techniques and music theory. I am learning so much and Ryan keeps it fun and interesting! Highly recommended.

I would give it 10 stars if I could! I played guitar for couple years and have taken lessons from many teachers. Unfortunately none of them seemed to work out pretty well. I was very frustrated about not being able to find a good teacher that can teach me the right thing. (Trust me, its much, much harder than you thought). Thank god I met Ryan and he has helped me so much ever since I start taking lesson from him. For the first time in couple years (seriously) I was able to see my improvement immediately in such short period of time! Ryan is a fantastic teacher who knows exactly what your week spots are. He is always able to teach you the right thing and gives you motivation to keep practicing! No matter what level of guitar skill you are, you can always learn tons of stuff from him! I can't recommend him more highly!

I always wanted to learn to play guitar, and tried several times to teach myself without success. The idea of taking guitar lessons was super intimidating to me, but I decided to give it a shot, and I'm so glad I did. Ryan is an amazing instructor. His passion for teaching is obvious, and I feel like I learned so much from him in a short amount of time. He addresses all the things any new player faces such as a lack of confidence and bad habits. Right away I felt comfortable and encouraged, and I looked forward to lessons every week. The lessons motivated me to want to practice and work through everything I was learning, and they were always fun. Ryan has a great sense of humor and a knack for using pizza metaphors to explain music theory :) I can't say enough great things about my experience, and I encourage anyone considering lessons with Ryan to definitely go for it. You won't be disappointed.

Ryan is an outstanding guitar teacher. Highly recommend singing up if you want to learn guitar or improve your playing. I had no prior experience and have been a student for almost 2 years now. What I most appreciated about Ryan is that he tailors each lesson to your level and can help you with any music style. He is passionate about making you the best guitar player you can be and sharing his wealth of expertise and methods. Lessons used to be in person and have now moved to virtual. They are still fun and I continue to make tons of progress.

My experience so far with Ryan Duke has been great. He's an easy-going guy, and he welcomes students no matter how uncomfortable they look holding a guitar!

FAQs

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

Personalized guitar lessons for beginners to advanced, songwriting lessons, improvisation lessons. There are multiple programs to choose form. It is about giving the student the best option to bring the best results. Materials and other bonuses are included in the lesson programs.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

1st you have to ask yourself why you need a guitar teacher. Learning on your own is very limiting and super frustrating. A very, very small percentage make it past 6 months. Those who do often plateau in their skills and never become as good as they wish that were. It is way too easy to quit when you don't have the accountability and support of a professional. I meet people all the time who have guitars sitting around collecting dust in the corner. If this describes you then I know you've felt the discouragement that I've seen in so many people. But things can change. What to look for: FUN! Yes, fun. If it's not fun why would you keep going? If it's fun then you will have a higher motivation level and that will keep you going. Personally I like to have fun, don't you? Look for a teacher that will help you clarify what you really want to do. I try to do this before people even come for one lesson. If you don't have a target, then there it's really hard to aim. I can help you with this. No cookie-cutter guitar lessons! Playing the guitar should be a fulfilling personal experience. Unfortunately most teachers treat it like a formula. Everyone is an individual and learn in different ways.
