Steve Dahlin and his partner Greg remolded my basement. They installed drywalls on the ceiling and concrete walls and did some electrical work too. They completed the drywalls with texture. It is a little challenging on this project. I think they understand the structure of a house very well. They did a good job overall, especially on sanding the walls. It looks flat and neat. I gave them a 5-star. Thank you Steve and Greg for your work.Feb 3, 2020Verified
Steve's crew did a great job with my requests—installing a mailbox and gate latch. I wasn't able to get there right away to sign off on the job, but Steve was willing to wait for the payment after my schedule is cleared to swing by my house to look at his job. His crew even fixed something they noticed but I haven't asked for—it's easy for them but it saves me a ton of time. Thank you, Steve and crew!Jun 10, 2019VerifiedDahlin Design-Build's reply
thanks very much, Elly, and best of luck to you. Steve
Steve did a great job remodeling my front entry space and installing a new screen door. He is very experienced and knowledgeable about how an area should look then following through until it looks just right. He is very detail oriented. He did a great job and I'm very happy with the results!Oct 8, 2018VerifiedDahlin Design-Build's reply
Thanks Barbara! Great working for you.
Trim or Molding Installation
Steve did a fantastic job installing extra wide crown molding in my family room and kitchen. He was prompt and professional in all our communications. The job included many difficult miters of inside and outside joints, and Steve did an excellent job. My painter was also impressed.Jul 9, 2018VerifiedDahlin Design-Build's reply
Thanks a bunch, Nancy. It was my pleasure.
Drywall Installation and Hanging
We hired Steve to install rough plumbing, a tub, shower door, and drywall and to skim coat 2 textured ceilings to make them smooth. We really appreciated Steve's transparency in his quote, as well as his quality and speed of work. Steve gave us a fair and detailed quote including expected time to finish. Steve and the guys he brought with him worked quickly without compromising quality. We are happy to be hiring Steve to do more work at our house later in the summer.Jun 9, 2017Verified
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)? Not too complicated, but when there's a fix needed and I can't anticipate how bad it is until I take it apart, I give a range or ballpark estimate and then keep the customer informed as I take it apart as to any revisions of estimates that are necessary.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I'll frequently look on the web for old techniques for old processes or new materials or techniques as well. Fine Homebuilding and the Green Building Advisor are two websites I keep informed with. This Old House is useful as well.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?As a youngster I got involved a little with my uncle and grandfather who were builders. Then when college time came I got interested in civil engineering but that interest waned while I was building houses in the summers and during other breaks. After moving to Texas and working in remodeling with my brother, I discovered the Architectural Engineering school at UT Austin and back I was in school enjoying it. Structural, Environmental, and materials of buildings along with a dose of Architectural history and solar design. During school breaks I could be found building or designing houses. Then I went to try my hand at engineering, and after 4 years with a couple of great firms, realized the desk was not for me. That was 26 years ago and here I am, still enjoying hands-on work and occasional design work as well.
