We discovered Martina / Design Stage through Yelp! early in 2013. Our small 1950's house needed some adjustments to accommodate how we, a family of four & dog, live.
After three years of ownership we were ready, particularly since we needed to get our house appraised for a refi.
As home improvement projects go, our most glaring need was landscaping, a bizarre layout of maze-like rotting fences, overgrowth and weeds everywhere. Regrettably, most of our budget had to be used for landscaping so anything interior had to be done on a thin budget.
Upfront, I explained the circumstances to Martina. I also mentioned that this was our third remodel and we could comfortably work in an unstructured way. For instance, minimal design illustrations and face-to-face meetings to review materials, etc. I would not recommend this for most people.
Design Stage's approach allows you at adjust the "sweat equity" meter to accommodate your budget. Note that if we are fortunate enough to work with Design Stage in the future, we will definitely move out of the way as much as possible because Martina, I believe, can work small miracles.
We had one very challenging area trying to be the house entry, coat closet, my office and guest area. I had spent many, many hours drawing up ideas and had presented them to Martina. She delicately placed them aside and presented a plan that was mind-blowing.
We immediately got our contractors busy to implement her ideas. The end product was beyond anything we could have imagined. Granted, there's still a lot we could do to improve the interior. But Martina was able to take the resources we had available, fully consider our budget and assemble it all in such a way to absolutely maximize the potential.
We loved our house the moment we moved in. But Martina helped really make it ours and we feel it every time we step through the door.

Working with Martina at Design Stage has been a dream come true. When my husband and I decided to renovate and redecorate our 60's style home I was dreading the process in that we knew what we liked and didn't like, but we were not confident in our own decisions to execute a plan that we both could actually live with and love.
Enter Martina Clymer and Design Stage.
I saw an ad in Seattle Magazine and was intrigued by the process of design coaching using "retail" instead of "trade only" furniture and accessories. This concept allows homeowners to work at their own pace and make purchases as they are able once the design plan is complete.
From the moment Martina walked into our "Brady Bunch" era home I knew I had found just the person to assist us in our design choices. Martina was more than happy to work with us utilizing some of my favorite stores while also introducing us to new and unfamiliar online sites and shops.
It was a collaborative process with lively conversations. Martina is a great listener, she has an eye for color and always presents a design which has an element of surprise. She worked hard to integrate pieces from our home into the new plan in order to keep costs reasonable and artfully mixed high end design pieces with less expensive ones.
Martina always presented at least two design options for each room complete with color drawings so that I was able to "visualize" the rooms. Also included with each plan was a list of furniture, accessories, paint, etc. to complete the look.
Over the past six years we have redone our entire home, always turning to Martina for design advice. I can honestly say it was fun, exciting, and stress-free.

Martina from Design Stage is amazing! I loved working with her--she is so talented, has a wonderful energy and works with your budget. My condo is absolutely gorgeous. My friends and family tell me it looks like a Model Home. Throughout the entire design process, Martina presented me with various options, color schemes, furniture choices and beautiful sketches. She was fun, friendly, professional and extremely timely. I cannot say enough great things about how much I enjoyed working with Martina and how much I love how my condo turned out. If you're looking to stage your home, do a simple refresh or need help with it all (from paint to furniture to window coverings), call her. She's amazing!

We hired Martina to help us find the perfect paint color and tile for our major home remodel. We were so impressed that after the remodel was complete we asked Martina to help us with the furnishings and layout of our living room. She also found the perfect upholstery to update our mid-century furniture.

Our experience with Martina was wonderful. We truly couldn't have asked for a better outcome. She took her time understanding what our likes & dislikes were. She is extremely personable and easy to communicate with. She introduced to ideas that we never would have considered on our own without ever being forceful. My husband and I changed our minds quite a bit during the process and she was always there to offer more ideas and input. We never thought our home would turn out so perfect.
