Jason came on time and completed the job in no time. The thing that I liked the most was that he charged a very reasonable amount for the work. Someone else had told me that I needed to get 3 kitchen shutoff valves replaced but Jason checked those and confirmed that they were working fine and didn't need to be replaced. I appreciate the honesty! When needed, I will definitely contact Jason again.

Jorge and his crew did a great job on our condo projects as we were getting it ready to rent out. They stuck to the timetable and everything was finished a day ahead of schedule which was a huge bonus! We had them paint the kitchen cabinets and walls, and install new tile in the kitchen. They also painted 5 doors for us, and two bedrooms (walls only), as well as bathroom trim. Jorge is skilled and so is his crew. We will need hire them in the future!

I hired Anthony to do rehab work on an investment property (a condo) which involved reinforcing and leveling a subfloor and installing cork flooring. He also installed appliances and a new bathroom cabinet, countertop and faucet, and did tile repair and trim work. Any miscellaneous problems that arose due to its being a 1970s condo (like crumbling subfloor, leaking valves etc.) he was also able to take care of. I found him to be professional, communicative and reasonably priced. He worked fast and to a consistently high standard. I will certainly offer work to Anthony in the future and I'd recommend him to others.

Cedo did a great job tiling our kitchen backsplash. I chose a tile that had alot of natural variation and asked Cedo to weed out the tiles that were very different that would stand out in a bad way. He took extra care and consideration to create this cohesive aesthetic with tiles that varied a great deal. He worked quickly and efficiently.

Simply the best company in Seattle area for home remodel. It wasn't easy to pick a company to remodel my kitchen and the bathrooms. There are plenty to chose from in the phonebook and online. However,I called for a free estimate and was impressed that someone came out that same day to look at my job. The price wasn't the cheapest or the most expensive, but the crew was clean, professional, on time, and didn't play games with adding extra costs. The end result was rather impressive. I highly recommend this company to anyone looking to get work done on their home. Thank you, Adrian Mocean

Chris was really spectacular in all the work he did for us. He ended up painting rooms for us, installing light fixtures, fixing some woodwork and installing cabinet pulls in our kitchen. Everything he did for us was top quality and he was really just a nice guy to work with. Would recommend for anyone looking for work to be done in their house!

Chad tiled our kitchen and two bathroom counters with granite. He explained things well and was affordable. We were so happy with his work that we had him come back to lay slate tiles on the floors as well. He suggested adding tile to the window sills and in place of molding in some areas of the home. I was hesitant, but it turned out fabulous. When we decided to sell, potential buyers who looked at the home loved the tile work. I believe it helped us sell quickly in this terrible market. I appreciate the quality craftsmanship and will happily hire him in the future. Kudos to Chad with Signature Tile!

I hired NW General Contracting to install new kitchen appliances (double oven, cooktop and vent) and also update the kitchen cabinet and drawer hardware. They did a very professional job. Although we had some minor issues with deliveries they corrected the problem and finished the job on time. They kept me informed of what was going on at all times and had a lot o pride on the quality of work they were doing. I will definitely hire them again when I have another job.

While building a 4,000 sq. ft. home I met Mike when looking for someone to build a wall of bookshelves and cabinets in the study. I am a designer by profession so I'm particularly detail oriented and this project was a lifelong dream. It didn't take long to realize Mike was a special talent and a great person. Many months later he has built, installed, fixed and finished things in every room in our house. From elaborate trim, wainscoting, a barn door (requiring restoration of a historic door), a very unique kitchen island, mirrors, cabinets, dumb waiter and laundry chute doors, to resizing and installing a historic fireplace surround, stair handrails, bathroom vanities, address numbers, a hidden door to a powder room, closet systems and custom clothes rods and shelves, the list literally goes on and on. Not only does Mike have the knowledge and skills to do such varied projects, he has excellent communication skills, invoices clearly, and treads lightly and respectfully throughout the home. Mike will be our first call whenever we need something built or installed in our home, and I recommend him enthusiastically. Feel free to get my phone number from Mike if you want to hear more. -Jay

Sal took the extra time to explain alternative solutions to my tiling project and left the final decisions up to us. I was very impressed with his quality workmanship and attention to detail. He is fast; and yet, very professional. I would hire him again and I highly recommend him.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Do you tip cabinet installers?

In general, home service providers such as electricians, plumbers and contractors are professionals who don’t expect tips. They expect to do a job for you for the specific price they quoted. Of course, they may appreciate a tip for a job particularly well done or for which they’ve gone beyond what’s normally expected, such as completing the project early or under budget. Even better than a tip, it’s always appropriate to leave a positive review online after a good experience.

How much is custom cabinetry?

Custom cabinets can be built for any room, including bedroom closets and built-in armoires. Measured carefully and built precisely, custom cabinetry can increase storage and beautify any room. The national average for building custom cabinets ranges from $500 to $1,200 per linear foot. The cost is highly variable because there are so many styles, colors, glazes and other options. In general, the linear footage of the cabinets, the materials used to build them, and the cost of the labor will determine the cost. Solid wood costs more than plywood and wood veneer, and costs vary among different types of wood; maple and cherry cabinets are more expensive than pine. Glass-front cabinets can cost more, as can decorative hinges, handles and door pulls, which can cost $2-$45 each; choose carefully to stay within your budget and pull off the exact look you’re going for. Some carpenters also charge for installation, on average $100 per cabinet box. Additional molding and trim, such as crown molding at the ceiling, cost an average of $70 per 8-foot section, and adding finished ends to exposed cabinets averages $100-$200.

How much does it cost to have kitchen cabinets installed?

In any kitchen, the cabinets are the main focus, so you want to make sure new or replacement cabinets are installed correctly. A professional carpenter can properly, securely mount new cabinets to the wall; the national average cost for this service is $7,725, although the cost varies widely depending on the type of cabinets, their material and their size, and the accessories you add. A typical fee is $70 per linear foot to remove existing cabinets and assemble and install new ones; the cost is less if you do the demolition and removal yourself. Stock cabinets are the least expensive to have installed, ranging from $75 to $400 each; semi-custom cabinets range from $150 to $900 each; and custom cabinets cost from $500 to $1,400 each. Wood cabinets are more expensive than those made from plywood or medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and finished with a laminate. Wood cabinets range in cost from $80 to $160 per linear foot. Laminate-finished cabinets cost $35 to $75 per linear foot, on average.
