We end up not going with Kitchen door due to our budget. But the communication with them has been wonderful! They really listened to us, and they had quite some exciting ideas. One feedback to Katherine is that maybe try to source better with hardscaping professionals, it was pretty easy for us to find something who charges way less than Katherine believe it'd cost. Overall, working with Kitchen door is a great experience. If you'd like to find contractors on your own, getting their design package is still worth it.

We looked at several landscape design and construction companies to do a total overhaul of our front yard and a refresh of the backyard after we bought our house. We ultimately decided to go with KD due to previous reviews and a strong recommendation from our realtor. We had stacked stone retaining walls/planter boxes built out front, new stepping stones placed on our pathway, up lighting and pathway lights installed, old shrubs removed (and will be replaced in the spring), backyard freshened up, and had new grout poured in the gaps of our stone patio then had it sealed for longevity. The crew divided and conquered and it was all done in about a week and a half. The design team pays attention to every detail and were ideal to work with. The end result is a stunning new exterior that adds value to our home and many compliments from our neighbors.

I had a very good experience with KD. My project involved significant redesigns of both front and back yards. In any landscaping project, things will come up once the work is underway. Something will be out of stock, or won't look the way you expected, etc. My project manager, Caleb, was excellent. He worked with me until the yards were what I'd hoped for, and he stayed in touch until absolutely everything was finished, down to the last plant. I thought the price were fair. I'd use KD again, and recommend them to others.I'll update this review in the future to describe how everything holds up over time.

I hired Kitchen Door to design and install a new backyard for us. Our space was small and we have kids, so it was a difficult task. They nailed it! It looks so great, everyone compliments it. We managed to fit in all the elements we wanted in a way that doesn't look too crowded.

Kitchen Door restored & upgraded existing low-water landscaping in both the front and backyards. They removed and replaced old shrubs with new ones and added two privacy screens plus a flat stone walk area.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

We are a full service design-build operation. This means that every project is a transformation, beginning with a hands-on bespoke design process, and ending with a fully-installed space. To engage the designer, we take a $500 deposit, and from there we work on a concept design, then do a meeting with designers to take feedback, and then provide a detailed itemized proposal for your project. With everything that goes into a yard-transformation, from design, to demolition, to irrigation, to plants and hardscapes, our projects typically start at $20,000.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

We start with a yard consultation to walk through your space and discuss your vision, your budget, and how we can help. From there, we take a $500 deposit to engage the design team, or a $1000 deposit if you’d like a 3D design. We then build out a concept design that we present in a meeting and take any feedback or adjustments. After the meeting, the design team will create a second more detailed design that we price out, and then provide you with a detailed itemized proposal for your project. Once we have reached a consensus on the scope and budget of your project, we take a 60% payment and begin the install. Once it is completed to your satisfaction, we take the final 40% payment.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

All our designers have degrees in landscape design or architecture and will provide beautiful, customized, and sustainably-minded designs. When needed, we will work with an engineer for projects that are more complex. Each client has a dedicated project manager to be with you every step of the way, from design to install, providing white glove service and making sure your wishes are fulfilled in a smooth and timely fashion. We take the time to find the best craftsmen and landscape crews to bring your dreams to reality, and build spaces that will last in the long-run.
