George and EDL Movers were the best movers experience I've ever had. They were on time (early even), friendly, thoughtful, and most importantly fast. They are definitely not one of those moving companies that squeezes you for more time than is needed. I highly recommend them.

I have boxes to unpack but I don't have time to write a small novel like they deserve. But I highly recommend this company. If any of my friends or co-workers need a moving company. I'm definitely passing down this companies info. They can early/ move furniture like some true movers (no time for games type of movers lol).. I will be contacted them in one year to move me into my house. I hope their business prosper. Sincerely, Crystal

Working with Local Tacoma Movers for my out of town move was a great experience. Good communication. They called ahead before arriving and were on time. Very polite and professional. Took care to handle everything gently, no matter how big it was (and they had to move some big items!). I had a lot of furniture to move, so no boxing up was needed. The whole move took less time than I had thought, they were very efficient. Nothing was damaged, no dirt was tracked into the house either. I would definitely recommend using them!

One of the best move experiences I've had! Movers were extremely professional, fast and polite. 2 movers from Moving2Gether were able to achieve something none of 3 man crews I hired previously - 0 damage to any of my walls or belongings! On top of their awesome work, they were not just on time, but they even offered me an option to come earlier which worked very well for me. All my belongings were carefully wrapped and treated with care, so I didn't have to worry about any fragile items that were moved. I really loved my move experience and appreciate having business with Moving2Gether!

Awesome sums up my moving experience with "The Moving Clique." Quality Customer Service, Quailty Customer Care. Sunday June 3rd. My daughter needed to move quickly. While she worked, I researched movers on Thumbtack. Did the whole online research and inquiry. I called "Smooth Movers" 5 Star reviews on Thumtack who said they could do the job and I was given a time. I told them great and that I had to call my daughter to make sure the time worked for her. When I called the company back to confirm the time the owner said he was running into a meeting, and his associate would call me right back. After 3 hours of waiting with no return call, I called them again. I was told unfortunately the appointment time was no longer available and they were completely booked on Saturday. Ofcourse I was not happy and expressed it. The co-owner then assured me he would find a crew to move my daughter on Saturday June 2nd and would call me back. He never did. (I PLAN TO WRITE A REVIEW ON "Smooth Movers" and their nonresponsive poor Customer Care) HERE IS WHERE "THE MOVING CLIQUE" COMES IN. Found them on Thumbtack as well with a 5 Star rating. And true to their rating they are a 5 STAR moving company, unlike "Smoot Movers" My call to "The Moving Clique" was very last minute because the other appointment fell through, although extremely busy "The Moving Clique" came through. We had to wait but they graciously worked us in and got the job done quickly and efficiently. It was worth the wait. The guys were pleasant quick and efficient ... they provided quality customer care deserving of a 5 STAR rating. Thank you Marcus for coming through for my daughter. Signed, a Happy Mother and Satisfied Customer. I highly recommend "The Moving Clique" 5 STARS

We’re so glad we hired these movers. We hired them less than 48 hours in advance to move all our furniture and they were very flexible and reasonable in cost. They even dissembled some furniture and reinstalled our washer and dryer. Great guys!

Booking and setting up appointment was fast & easy. I hired 3 movers and 1 truck. Movers were professional & hard working. I believe the only break they took was the drive between my old house to my new house. I gave a 4 star rating for these reasons... As stated above the movers were professional, however they could not figure out how to take apart a crib. I had to do it myself. I also had to put it back together on my own cause they said it was for safety reasons which I guess was fine, but other times that I've moved with other companies the movers always took apart and put the crib back together with no problem. Also they didn't know how to put a bunk bed together. I had to assist which was a pain cause I have a 2 year old toddler who was at my feet some of the time. Mind you, I took the bunk bed apart prior to movers showing up to save time. But like I said other companies/movers put it back together with no problem & no instructions. Other than that my experience with All Service Moving company was good.

tl;dr: everything I could have possibly hoped for, and more. HIGH value, incredibly efficient, and would recommend it to ANYONE. Slightly longer version: We are moving from Boston to Seattle for work. Alex basically, over the course of 2 days, unpacked/organized almost everything that had been sent over in the moving truck (minus hanging heavy things on walls, complicated electronic things) from our previous 2 bedroom apartment into our new 5-bedroom home. She was incredibly professional, cheery, and EFFICIENT. It was amazing to see, and VERY worth it. She has an incredible "can do" attitude - as an example, we decided at the last minute we wanted to move a couple pieces of heavy furniture after our movers had left, and so she coordinated with local movers who came for a short period, and who also set up part of a bookshelf for us. It was such an amazing time-saver that my wife and I found ourselves trying to find ways to hire Alex again to facilitate more things (I'm sure we will come up with things!).

I recently hired Rickey and his crew from Prestige Movers in Poulsbo to move items from my house in Port Ludlow to a new place on the Kitsap Peninsula. These were mostly large, heavy items from the garage (power tools, stored furniture, shelving, many boxes, a kayak, even lots of lumber). We also asked them to move a couple of heavy pieces of furniture inside the house for staging purposes. Rickey and his crew worked quickly, efficiently, and safely. Rickey has a unique ability to map out in his mind where everything will fit, and we were amazed at how much they were able to transport. Joe (a member of the team) is a wizard at disassembling/assembling furniture (as he did with a large, heavy, multi-section desk unit), as well as driving and maneuvering the truck. These guys also have a very positive, can-do attitude. Overall, this move was a very, very good experience, perhaps one of the very best we've ever had compared to other moves/movers over the past several years. We will use Rickey and Prestige again in the future, and we will recommend them to others.

Good experience with these guys. They worked with me on price since my job was very small. Showed up on time (though didn't calm me the morning of to confirm - so I was worried). The two movers were super friendly and professional. They got the job done very quickly and were careful with my items. Would hire again!

I hired Coast to Coast Movers to move a very heavy piano from one house to another, both with a lot of stairs involved. It was a great experience all around, they were quick to respond to all my questions, and were professional and on time, and the price was reasonable. I would love to hire them again in the future!

Jimmy and Damian were AWESOME! They were so happy and upbeat. Great attitudes, strong work, the neighbors even asked for their cards while they worked. Definitely recommend them. 😊 Packed that truck like a perfect game of Tetris! Haha Little disappointed the company charged a $100 travel fee that they didn't disclose on my initial quote.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
