Our family has driven 20 miles, twice a week, for over eight years, to study and practice kajukenbo karate under the kind and compassionate guidance of Situ Rick Cropper. He's one of few seventh degree black belt's in this precise martial art. Cropper takes this art seriously, trains his students hard, and teaches them this life skill in an uncompromising fashion with emphasis on sparring, forms and general mental and physical fitness. We've encouraged friends and family to study under him as well. If searching for a martial arts academy, look no further.

I've been taking Krav Maga classes for over 3 years at KMSD&F. I love the instructors and the information they provide. Each instructor has a different personality and each class a different sort of energy. All of them great. I highly recommend Krav Maga Portland (KMSD&F) to anyone who is looking for a great workout and an outstanding awakening to self defense.

My girlfriend and I are both relatively new to firearms. Both of us had been recreational shooting with friends twice, but never received any proper training. We recently decided we wanted to buy a gun for home defense and for recreational shooting. However, we first wanted to get adequate training for safety reasons, and also wanted some experience handling different firearms to help us make our decision about what to get. Furthermore, I would like to note that due to my work schedule, my girlfriend is often home alone at night while I’m at work, and we both believe that if anything ever happened, it would be best if she had training she could fall back on rather than having to figure out what to do in the moment. Our training with Yonty turned out to not only be incredibly valuable but also a lot of fun. Yonty’s class was very thorough and covered operating, aiming, and firing of different types of firearms as well as proper stance, concealment, and threat response tactics. I would say my favorite part of the course though, and the most valuable was the live fire exercises/drills that Yonty had us do. Although the course was short, I now feel like I would know how to respond and how to function in most threat situations. If you are new to firearms, or are even an experienced shooter who is looking for more training, I would highly recommend one of Yonty’s classes. He is thorough, safety conscious, has expert knowledge on all topics relating to firearms, defense tactics, and security, and is also great at teaching and explaining. I think anyone who takes his courses will feel they walked away with more knowledge, confidence, and instinct when it comes to using a firearm.

When I moved to Portland, I searched for the best karate dojo to continue my 20 years journey in Shotokan karate. I made a comparison between six karate dojos in Portland area. At the end, I have chosen Portland Shotokan Karate Do because of the enthusiast and respectful environment. Robert and Bettina Sensei have the capability to tailor training according to your needs. I highly recommend this place to anyone loves the real Karate.

Training with Cody was such a great experience!!! He is so organized which really helped keep me accountable. On top of our creative and fun workouts he provided nutrition advice and worked with me on my flexibility issues which was really important to me. We would spend a few minutes at each session checking in and going over my efforts between sessions which really helped me make better choices when he wasn't around! When I met him four years ago he was managing a gym at 18 years old! I was surprised and underestimated his skill level because of his age. Since then he's only improved. He spends so much time learning and giving everything he can to provide the best experience for his clients. This was true for myself and his other clients that I had the opportunity to meet. Now he's built his own gym and created his own business so his clients can have an even better experience. He's got it figured out and is only getting better. Training with anyone can feel expensive, but the return on investment with Cody is huge!

Jeff is an excellent martial arts teacher. He takes a concept, like punching or rapier and shows it many ways. He takes a hands on approach and helps students hold the sword. During the last rapier class Jeff moved a little quickly through some material that was very new to some other folks. If he could slow down on explaining some rapier drills, that might be good. But, Jeff makes a difference. I use what I learn in class about martial arts, spatial awareness, and strategy during my day. I enjoy going to Academia Duellatoria

I took the self defense class from Mitchell and now feel more confident than perhaps I should. But I would still be going myself if I didn't have personal problems. However, I was so impressed with this class and the instructor that I decided to sign my kids (8 and 10) up and they have been going now for more than six months and not only do they love it, but I love how I am able to integrate pieces of class into our daily lives to smooth some areas. And I now have confidence that my children will be able to protect themselves from most who mean them harm, or at least be able to talk about it. The only thing I must practice patience about is that Mitch can sometimes be easily distracted and go in a different direction than expected, but it is still generally informative. I would and do recommend Mitchell Pennell"s self defense class for any- and everyone.

I've been attending classes at NWFA for many years, and I find myself constantly learning new things. All the people I've had a chance to train with are super friendly, and the instructors are very helpful. Staying motivated has rarely been a problem, and with all the different systems offered there, I feel like I will never run out of things to learn. I have the utmost respect for all the instructors, and highly recommend taking classes here.

We were looking for a dojo for our daughter to continue her karate training when I found Seishinkan Karate On Main. Much to my surprise Sensei Ellis answered the phone and spent time to talk with me about his dojo, asked about our daughter, and set up an appointment right away for us to come in and meet. After our meeting we signed up for a 2 month trial, our daughter knew after the first week she wanted to join. Sensei Ellis goes out of his way to acknowledge each student each day they come in to train. It is obvious to me that Sensei Ellis not only enjoys what he is shares with his students, he enjoys his students.

Sensei Paul Keller is truly an excellent teacher of the Martial Arts! He is extremely patient and clear in his instruction, and he sets a bar for every student that allows them to achieve their best! My husband and son are also students at his dojo, and I would highly recommend him and his school to anyone interested in learning karate!
