Josh and his partner Moses were amazing. They were highly responsive and provided me with a fair estimate for a small kitchen remodel. The timeframe they were able to work in was ideal and the job turn-around fast, although the work wasn't rushed in the least. The quality of CWAG's demo/install is top-notch and their attention to detail is obvious. Everything looks beautiful down to the grout on the tile backsplash. I couldn't be happier. Highly recommended!

Glenn was originally hired for a plumbing job to finish up some remodel work on our kitchen. We are avid DIY'ers and ended up tackling the job ourselves. We also had other appliance installs we didn't get to including some hvac hookup, wiring etc.. Glenn was flexible on the types of projects, happy to help with whatever we needed, easy to work with, resourceful and creative in solving the problems that came up as they always do with remodel work. He also re-did our plumbing job to make it better; quickly. We could not have done all this in the time we did without him. We were able to accomplish everything we needed with his help. He spend more time than we had requested even though he had another job to get to. He is not the cheapest, but well worth his rates and less than had we hired journeyman professionals in each individual area. I would add that he is reasonably priced, and for us at the end he altered his quoted price to less than the original based on the scope of projects we had him do. It made it easier to give him a bit extra which he deserved for the hours he spent! As an added note to his professionalism, he responded to each email through thumbtack immediately, of which I sent several, and he arrived early to our scheduled appointment time. I would definitely call him in the future.

I needed new recessed can lights installed in my kitchen. Zeev recommended LED lights. He went and got the materials and installed them perfectly. Plus, I was having car trouble and needed a jump. He helped me push my car down the driveway to get near his vehicle. He jumped my car. What customer service! He said...I help you today...next time, I might need help. What a good worker and genuine good person. I will be calling him again!

Daniel did a great job installing my IKEA cabinets in my storage/laundry room, working with the dimensions I had. He cleaned up after the work (although I have to get rid of all the boxes), and was very pleasant to have in my home. I will definitely hire him for more work: doorways, window and hopefully kitchen down the line!

We just had a marble and glass backsplash installed in our kitchen. Anatolie did an excellent job! He cut every piece very precisely. He was punctualand kept things very clean. I would highly recommend him to anyone interested in getting tile work done. You will be more than pleased with his pricing and craftsmanship. I am already thinking about other areas in my house I might have him work on.

Logan has helped me figure out the source of my kitchen ceiling leak and provided a sensible solution. I really appreciate how he is willing to repair and salvage existing material. His is very responsive and reliable. I trust the quality of his work. I have continued to hire him for several other projects like repairing my deck and extending my gutter system. I have been extremely satisfied.

Travis was the first person to come out and quote my fence. I was replacing the entire fence around my house removing old posts starting from scratch. After receiving a few more quotes he was by far less than the others and seemed professional so I went with him. His work and professionalism was exceptional, we have two large dogs and he created a temporary fence for them to go outside, the 2nd day as they finished more of the fence they increased the size of the fenced area for the dogs (we never said anything) They finished in 3 days. The workers were respectful and cleaned up. I'm a 10 on the picky scale, I give him a A+. Now having him quote me to remodel the kitchen

I would highly recommend Olvera Construction. They are responsive, willing to help deliver products, and finished the projects in a timely manner, all while making sure the design was how we wanted it. They were also clean and careful with not damaging anything. We will continue to use Olvera for our future home renovations.

I met with Laura regarding a project that ended up requiring an architect vs a designer so I didn't get to work with her. I will say, however, that she is VERY nice, easy going and down to earth. Her fees are reasonable and she is willing to go the extra mile. Her strengths seem to be accessorizing and choosing colors. Lovely website and love the company name!

Steve and his crew did a wonderful job of making our vision for our kitchen a reality. We kept our existing cabinetry and hired DNA to update our kitchen, including removing a pocket door and half wall to open up our 1966 daylight ranch upstairs floor plan. Great attention to detail was appreciated in doing our remodel. The tile work was done beautifully and care was taken to keep our home clean throughout the project. We have just hired them again to remodel 2 bathrooms. Many thanks to Steve and his team for helping us update and customize our home.

We hired John to build cabinets for a complete custom kitchen remodel project and two custom bathrooms. The cabinets are all solid plywood and finished in a beautiful figured walnut. John’s attention to detail is nothing short of stellar! He matched the grain patterns from the top cabinets to the bottom cabinets and all the trim was perfectly cut and installed. Our project was quite extensive and because of the very fine quality of work we even had John finish five custom solid core doors for us. From the doors, to the custom freestanding oven hood, it’s all top quality work! Needless to say, I would highly recommend him to anyone interested in artisan quality work! John is a true craftsman. We love our new kitchen!!!! I am very impress. All I saw was a bunch of boxes piled up in the middle of my living room, felt like crying. He quickly started to assemble them and it started to look amazing. His price was reasonable, he is professional, clean and his sense of humor made my husband and I feel at ease. I don't usually like to write up reviews, but it's not everyday that you get someone that makes such an impression while you pay them. Overall two thumbs up!! Glad I used thumbtack

Wanted to get my studio designed without breaking that bank. Misty helped narrow down the requirement and the budget. She was helpful in picking up the furniture and design layout. The only concern is the time taken in getting all the pieces of furniture. I was hoping that it could be done in one shot but since there were a few custom pieces, delay was unavoidable. Highly recommend Misty.

It was a pleasure working with Zach! I was looking to upgrade my fireplace, mantle. I had a vision for the space to include raw wood, tile and floating shelves. I met with Zach and described my desire for the space. He presented me with multiple sketches within a few days to a week. I chose what I liked from a few sketches and Zach was able to design a great focus wall for my space. I would highly recommend Zach Freund. He was very professional, caring. His creativity and knowledge were plentiful.

I got exactly what I asked for. What I thought was a broken chair turned out to only needing a new seat cushion. The chair I got back will last me for many years to come Jennifer and her employee Juan were very easy to work with and very pleasant to talk to. I would recommend her to everyone.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

  • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
  • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
  • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
  • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

How do you choose an interior designer?

Choosing an interior designer is all about finding one whose signature style fits well with your tastes and who can work within your budget. To choose the right professional for your interior design project, ask yourself these five questions:

  • What is your signature style? Good interior designers can both describe their personal aesthetic and demonstrate their signature style through their portfolios. Make sure it appeals to you.
  • How will you make sure the design fits my lifestyle? Good designers understand that the interior design must improve a homeowner’s experience in their home and fit into their lifestyle; for example, a white suede sofa is a poor choice for a family with large dogs and small children.
  • How much do you charge? Depending on the project, an interior designer may charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of the project’s total cost.
  • How will you stick to my budget? An interior designer should have a plan for staying within your budget, which includes full transparency of costs and flexibility when choosing materials and furnishings.

Because an interior design project is highly collaborative and based on hard-to-define personal preferences, it’s most important to choose a designer who communicates clearly and listens closely to you.

How much do interior designers charge?

You can hire an interior design for a job as basic as a one-room consultation or as complex as supervising the design of an entire new home, helping with space planning, choosing color palettes, and shopping for furniture, flooring and artwork. The size and scope of the job will determine how much an interior designer charges; the average national cost for an interior designer ranges from $75 to $100 or more per hour. Other cost factors include the person’s reputation — interior designers to the stars are usually more expensive — and region. Most interior designers charge an average of $100-$225 for an initial consultation, but some will charge an hourly rate, usually starting at an average of $50, for larger projects that require extensive consultations. Hourly rates may be available for smaller projects, such as redecorating a living room or staging a home for sale; for instance, shopping and consulting can cost an average of $75 to $100 per hour, while staging costs and average $95 per hour. For many homeowners, a percentage of an interior designer’s cost is recouped through the professional discounts they receive from their vendors.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
