"I have not had many massages in my life and have always considered them to be a luxury for relaxation and for counter acting stress. And indeed a massage does relax and release stress but I now realize that a massage can also be therapy and a path to recovery for injuries or ailments brought on by routine life. Stephanie is very knowledgable in anatomy and how the body works. She not only gave me an excellent massage but also provided me with simple exercises so I can strengthen weak muscles that are at the root of my problems. The over all experience was wonderful, calming my senses while deeply working my muscles and tendons. I am now a regular client and feel better than I have for years. Kathy"

"I do martial arts and suffer from nagging injuries and pain. Danielle Prado is one of the few (if only) massage therapists who has the technique, strength, and dedication to healing your body. She is talented, and not for the faint of heart. I strongly recommend her - she is outstanding and has a great personality to go along with it. Spend the money and go for 90 minutes - you will not be disappointed. My body feels back to 100% literally one day after a massage. "

"I had a fantastic massage with Mariya! I've had very nice massages in very expensive resorts before and they don't hold a candle to her! Can't beat the price for quality, it's just not possible. I was blown away. Usually massages are a once in a while treat for me, but I may start going regularly. She did absolutely amazing work. I wish I could give her 6 stars."

"Amanda was very professional and flexible with her schedule. I contracted her services for my girlfriend and she was 100% satisfied with the 90 minute massage she received. She was able to locate and relieve many of her problem areas. this was the first time I have seen her so relaxed that she actually passed out. Unfortunately for me I was locked out of the hotel room when she was passed out and it took us 30 minutes to get into the room, LOL. We recommend her highly for anyone looking for a quality healer that understands and can find the areas that need to be worked on. Thank you so much Amanda for taking care of her, we wish you lived closer to us here in CA."

"Lori was awesome! I came in for a prenatal massage never really having one before and not knowing what to expect. She was very professional and curtious through the whole experience. She asked what I wanted instead of just telling me what I needed which I really liked. I left feeling relaxed with the siatic pain almost unnoticeable which is exactly what I wanted. Thank you Lori! And I will definitely be back for another massage soon. "

"I had a pregnancy massage done on Saturday with Kathrina and it was everything I absolutely needed! She was phenomenal...she covered every part of my body and then some! The experience was so GREAT, that I rescheduled that day for another massage the next month. Not only did she massage me, she also stretched my arms and legs which was an added benefit and definitely something I needed! I will be returning monthly to see her throughout my pregnancy! Her touch was perfect, she was professional, and she made me comfortable throughout the whole experience. Thank you Kathrina! "

"I've been getting massage from Jonathan for almost two years now. When I met him I had been working with another massage therapist for over 15 years, but after talking with Jonathan at a social event, I decided to give his services a try. He has a fantastic approach to bodywork and is relentless about helping me work yoga and deep breathe into my daily life so that I can heal my body faster and build more strength and flexibility. I also really appreciate that Jonathan offers mobile massage, which makes it really convenient. He is a very skilled massage therapist and yoga instructor and I would highly recommend his services"

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is Thai massage?

Thai massage, also called Thai yoga massage, combines acupressure and assisted yoga postures. Thai massage is based on the flow of energy through the body and focuses on energy lines called “sen.” It doesn’t use oils or lotions and, instead of rubbing muscles, the massage therapist compresses, pulls, stretches and rocks the recipient’s body to promote the flow of energy through these sen. In this form of massage therapy, practitioners use their hands, knees, legs and feet to apply deep muscle compression and stretch the body. It’s often performed on a mat on the floor instead of on a massage table. Like most forms of massage, Thai massage is used to relieve stress, improve range of motion and enhance flexibility. Some people also use Thai massage to address a range of health issues, including:

  • Relieving tension headaches
  • Decreasing back pain
  • Reducing joint stiffness and pain
  • Stimulating circulation and lymphatic drainage
  • Boosting energy

Because a traditional Thai massage session covers all of the muscles in your body, it typically lasts 90 minutes to 120 minutes.

How much do you tip a massage therapist?

All forms of massage therapy, from Thai massage to Swedish massage to deep tissue massage, are similar to other spa or hospitality services. So it’s appropriate to tip a massage therapist the standard hospitality rate of 15 percent to 20 percent of the cost of the session. For example, the national average cost for a deep tissue massage is $70-$90, so expect to tip $12-$18. Of course, you can always tip more or less depending on your experience, especially if you’ve opted for extra services. For example, expect to tip more for a couple’s hot stone massage session that includes aromatherapy. Also, if you’re paying with a gift certificate or coupon, or purchasing a discounted multi-session package, make sure to calculate your tip based on the full price of the massage.
